Hugely important League Cup tie

873

We have had games which were hugely important to the club, and to our new manager, some which were ‘must win’ games, which were ultimately lost, but tomorrow’s League Cup tie against Hearts is a must win game for different reasons.

A year ago we lost in this competition to one of the worst teams to win at Celtic Park in the last half century, possibly longer, but thus Hearts side are a Premiership team in all but name and come with the weight of their history behind them to fell Scottish football’s last superpower.

I’ve seen Hearts win at Celtic Park before, there is one particular painful memory as they taunted us while drawing, but Ronny and his new recruits should know, this game ranks above all league matches in order of importance.

Malone Bhoy, how much money do Celtic pour down a stank in sign on fee’s and wages for players who never contribute anything to the club? We’re a selling club, so we are told, so hold out for an extra half million when we sell VVD, CG or our next project and pay the club employee’s a living wage.

I don’t see that as irresponsible at all, quite the opposite in fact. A good employer should be looking after all their staff, not just the rich boys at the top who are milking the club like it’s a five uddered cow.

    R.I.P john divers

john scored one of the finest goals i have

    seen at celtic park.

it was back in the early sixties on a winters

    day.

there was a breakaway down the right

the ball was crossed at speed at head height

john was at full speed through the middle

nobody thought he would reach the ball

but he took off and was horizontal when

he connected with his forehead on the

18yard line, the ball flew into the top

    corner.

of all the great goals over the years this

    one sticks in the mind

    god bless you johny

But I didn’t need to be.

You sure did the fella justice wi that.

HT, my memory of the figure is sketchy, in fact it’s just sketchy in general:-).

It may not even have been Bankier who made the speech about it at the AGM. I thought it was £500k. If its less, all the more reason to stop fannying about and get it done. A lot of supporters would be a whole lot happier with the club if they took the initiative and implemented this in the original spirit of CFC.

The 70s and 80s were not good times for them, and they got left behind.

Ironically, due to their hard-earned knowledge of the benefits system, they are largely unaffected by the new rules-and I know that’s a generalisation.

Those who are being sanctioned are those who six years ago were working hard, then were hammered in the recent recession. They’re not used to the ins and outs of the benefit system.

And those who are long-term haven’t had to make a new claim-with its potential to catch you out-for years.

  11. A Ceiler Gonof Rust on

BT, I do remember that being trotted out. I think he may also have mentioned students.

How much does Bankier earn from CFC and what does he actually do, I’ve no idea on both counts.

So sad to hear the news of Johnny Divers. Being from Dumbarton i had the privelige of knowing him in not just the football environment as my dad ran one of the school teams, but also as a teacher to a group of rowdy Celtic daft St Pats High teenagers…..though knowing he played for Celtic made us all look up to him.

For a teacher he was a cool guy (with an excellent taste in cars as he drove a beautiful alfa Romeo back in the day!), quietly spoken and an excellent Economics teacher.

One story i have of him was when someone who was excellent at football at schoolboy level was talking during class rather than paying attention. He made the pupil in question come down to the front of the class and do keepy ups with a tennis ball to see how good he was as he was obviously too good to pay attention……mr Divers then had a go at the keepy up of the tennis ball and won hands down. He said to the pupil laughingly now if an Economics teacher in his 50s can beat you at keepy uppy you had better pay attention!!!

As for his influence on me. Well i now have a degree in Economics and have never looked back.

    Malone Bhoy.

Ronny Deila has been there long enough now, to be able to pick a winning/best Celtic side.

My concern is the format, how they are set out and expected to play.

The pressure on the back four especially with full backs too far forward, has been evident in nearly every game we’ve played. Changing the players in the same set up won’t relieve the pressure and alarm bells haven’t stopped for me, since he said Celtic would be about ‘wingers’ and ‘attacking’, especially with the personnel he has.

I hope he makes it happen, but so far he’s failed at nearly every turn, with his idealism, both out and out wingers we have are presently injured. When he’s asked others to play wide, they haven’t helped him.
