“I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers”

851

“I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers” screams the BBC headline ahead of this evening’s interview by Chris McLaughlin of the Last King of Rangers, Our Hero, Craig Whyte.  Whyte has retained private contact with a couple of journalists but he has previously declined earnest requests to go on the record given the level of investigation he is under.  The wrong word could be costly.

But here it is, “I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers”.  An unequivocal assertion.

The interview will be broadcast on Reporting Scotland and Newsnight Scotland this evening and has been trailed by every outlet in the land (first trailed by Phil Mac Giolla Bhain last night).  There appears to be genuine surprise in many news outlets.  CQN’ers will be busy checking this this is, in fact, news, not a rehash of an earlier established fact (it is genuine news).

It has been a few months since Our Hero was The Only Show in Town but he can still put on a captivating performance.

Charles Green has yet to respond but he will.  He has no choice.  He could categorically deny the claim, citing Whyte’s court-established reliability, but to do that he’ll have to calculate that corroborating material will not emerge.  The wrong word now could torpedo hopes of a successful share issue next month

A bombastic statement from well-polished PR people is what’s needed.  I hope we’re not disappointed.

“I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers”.  Kaboom!

absolutely, and by running the club/company at a £4m loss they were actually more financially astute than the previous and possibly current regimes,

Give it back to D&P I say

They knew what they were doing.

Are you suggesting I’m Chloe Smith? :¬)

The Sevco business model is ‘unorthodox’. No new business, provided it is well capitalised, should be reliant on external investors to support cashflow within months of start up.

No one has explained why Sevco needs to float so quickly.

Or indeed, why they need to at all.

The smart play would have been to run the business at a profit while they climbed the leagues, and float when they were promoted to the top flight, thus allowing the original investors to get out with a profit in the manner of Fergus McCann.

Doing so now, thus diluting the original investors, when the company oughtn’t need the money, suggests they were not adequately backed in the first place, or there is an undeclared need for cash.

And that’s all the Secretary of State has told me, as of lunchtime today.

  3. And yet the duffers walk away with £3million for stitching up the admin. and the creditors still have zero….apart from the odd sop or two flung towards a couple of clubs.

Who will get the juicy admin. bidness I wonder when the newcon goes under?

I am unsure what BDO will be doing once they are in position. They may not be at all interested in D& P, and it might take a formal complaint from a disappointed creditor to the appropriate professional body before there is any kind of formal investigation.

My point is that the relationship between Whyte & D & P is controversial and the BBC has all the relevant evidence to prove this. I cannot believe that any broadcaster would take the risk of impugning the integrity of a firm like D & P without being sure what they were saying was true.

  5. Hun season book prices ‘start at’ £258.

I don’t know what the average price is so the overall income is conjecture. Whatever it is the figure includes VAT at 20%.

The wage bill is down, but is still very substantial.

The other running costs will be much the same as they were, eg Ipox has a rateable value of £1.9m ( £400,000 more than Greene paid for both it and Murray Park together. Which is odd.)

Advertising, sponsorship and prize money? Buttons.

They ain’t in a good place financial wise.

Its not life in Division 3 that is expensive (as other clubs prove it is very cheap to be a 3rd division club as their players all practically amateurs, its Ibrox, Murray Park and all their employees that is expensive

Well done for resurrecting that piece from 2002. Very very interesting and at least shows the insight and intelligence of one of the Ibrox Directors. Of course I recall he got pilloried for it at the time. If only they had listened to him, thankfully they didn’t !! lol. HH

  8. From Traynor’s ridiculous, and unprofessional, mix of reportage and MediaHouse-fed opinion in the Daily Record:

“To be fair to Whyte, he did introduce Green to one of the administrators – but it was in a Chinese restaurant in London days after Zeus had brought in the Yorkshireman to mastermind the takeaway, sorry, takeover.”

Green says Duff & Phelps brought in Zeus Capital in February after they were recommended to them (by whom?) for their “experience in football”.

Zeus (Imran Ahmad and Brian Stockbridge, who had no prior “knowledge of football”) then brought in Green (former Sheffield United chief executive).

But Green says he needed Whyte to introduce him to the administrators in May so that “they could take me seriously”.

As for Whyte, he says he introduced the “buyers” to Duff & Phelps.

Zeus Capital are the office boys. Green is the loudmouthed frontman.

    Who are the REAL buyers?

Ticketus? Leo Knifton? Rafat Rizvi? Minty Moonbeams?

    This stinks to high heaven.
