‘I DIDN’T THINK I WOULD SCORE,’ COMMONS

KRIS COMMONS thought Steve Simonsen was going to save his shot that gave Celtic their second goal.

The midfielder fired in a typical powerful drive in the 31st minute, but he believed the Rangers keeper would stop it.

He said: “I didn’t think it was a goal as soon as the ball left my foot.

“To be honest, I thought the keeper was going to save it.

“There was a little bit of movement, but I think he might have got a finger or two to it.

“The pace and the swerve helped the ball hit the back of the net. I wasn’t complaining. I was happy it had put us two up.

“But these are the games you want to be involved in. You can tell that by the build-up, what it means to the fans and what what it means to us to get into the League Cup Final.

“These are also the occasions you want to thrive in and to play your best football.”

The former Scotland international also hopes something is done about the treacherous Hampden pitch before next month’s meeting with Dundee United.

He added: “The pitch wasn’t slippy, it was just so soft. Any change of your direction and you lost your footing.

“I wouldn’t say it’s dangerous, but it needs to be sorted before the final.”

Now that the much hyped semi-final is out of the way, Kris Commons is expected to sign a contract extension to keep him at Celtic for the next two years, as the feel good factor at Ronny Deila’s Celtic grows.
