‘I WANT TO SIGN FOR CELTIC,’ BAIN

SCOTT BAIN has revealed he wants to sign a long-term deal with Celtic – as CQN reported on March 29.

The on-loan Hoops keeper is a free agent at the end of the season when his contract with Dundee expires and he has already been linked with Paul Lambert’s Stoke City.

However, Bain’s representatives are in talks with Parkhead chiefs and he is keen to remain at the champions.

The shotstopper said: “I’ve had a chat with the manager and told him I want to stay at Celtic. He’s keen for me to be here and I’m hopeful that I will be at this great club for years to come.

“It’s all sinking in now that I am a Celtic player. I’m loving it and enjoying myself every day.

“Football is all about moments and timing. Earlier in the season, I could never have expected this.

“It’s mad how it has worked out, but that’s football. Craig Gordon got injured and I was the lucky one who got the call to come here — and got this opportunity.”

Bain, who made a dramatic debut for the Hoops in the 3-2 win at Ibrox last month, has been tipped for a Scotland call-up, but isn’t getting too carried away with his progress.

He said: “I have still only played a few games since October, so I’m just focusing on Celtic.

“If I play more, then I hope the Scotland thing will happen, but I need to keep working hard.

“I was in three squads under Gordon Strachan, but had to pull out of two through bad injuries.

“I loved that experience and I want to get back there at some point.”
