‘I WILL BE HERE NEXT YEAR, 200 PER CENT,’ INSISTS RODGERS

BEAMING Brendan Rodgers celebrated his fourth title – and eleventh Celtic honour – after the champions’ breathtaking 5-0 triumph over Dundee United at Tannadice this afternoon.

The resistance of the hosts was broken on the half-hour mark with a deflection from Ryan Strain into his own net opened the floodgates.

Nicolas Kuhn, who had been a livewire right from the start, whipped in a double before the interval and Adam Idah, who replaced the limping Filipe Jota in the 35th minute, netted two before the hour arrived.

Rodgers spoke to Sky Sports after the final whistle as Hoops fans celebrated big-style and ex-Celt Chris Sutton quizzed the manager about his beyond next season.

The Irishman smiled and answered: “For the avoidance of doubt, I will be here next year, 200 per cent.

“I said the other week 150 per cent. Now it’s 200!

“I’ve never been happier here. I’ve had the most amazing season with the support of the club, the players, how they’ve performed.”

Rodgers added: “These players here have been unbelievable in their mentality every day and took that into the games.

“When they had to step up, they stepped up like today. So it’s been an absolutely brilliant season for us in the league.”

HAVING A BALL…Brendan Rodgers displays his skills after Celtic’s 5-0 win at Tannadice.

The words from the Celtic gaffer merely reinforce what CQN emphasised a week ago today.

His eleventh honour takes him one above Neil Lennon in the managers’ honours list at Parkhead.

However, he is a fair way off emulating Willie Maley who picked up an astonishing 30 trophies during his time while the legendary Jock Stein is in second place with 25 trophies.

Rodgers, of course, can add another piece of silverware when the holders play Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup Final at Hampden in a month’s time.
