Ibrox physical comedy, Thistle’s Football History role

135

OK, I’ll admit it, when I heard Ryan Christie put Aberdeen two up last night, I had a sense of wellbeing. When I saw video of their first goal, I laughed more than I thought possible at physical comedy.

But it was the guy who, with his team losing, thought, “I’ve had enough of this crap, I’ll going to steal the ball and run away” who really set me off the edge. God knows Celtic fans have done stupid things over the years, but can you imagine being so disengaged with your team that you’d prefer to steal a ball than get it back onto the field to effect a comeback?

If fans start pinching things that aren’t nailed down at Ibrox they’d better step up the property maintenance work sharpish.

What last night’s result means is that Partick Thistle have a role to play in Football History over the next few days. If Celtic overcome them tonight, but Aberdeen fail to do so on Sunday, Celtic could break the widest winning margin world record.

What is of more immediate concern is maintaining our undefeated run on our third last game of the season. Thistle have an excellent record at Celtic Park this season, drawing 1-1 and losing 1-0. Celtic won more convincingly on our previous visit to Firhill, but we’ll need to hit that standard again to get the desired result.

I’ve been blown away with the support for my marathon run on Sunday in aid of the Celtic Foundation. Thank you to each person who has got in touch or donated to the MyDonate site (here).

Clearly donations help the Foundation, but having done the half marathon last year, I know they put fuel in the legs when I’ve had enough. I’m going to read through the donations list before I go to bed on Saturday, it will get my head straight and be more useful than energy gels. Thank you.

I don’t know what team Brendan will pick for tonight , but I think our captain will lead the team , back from holiday , back in the side , back leading by example :-) …… Song for Broonie ( to the Oasis ” Roll with it ” tune ) Our Captain is Scott Brown , he never lets us down , he’s our great number eight , handed Barton his fat ass on a plate , and it’s all too much for the Huns to take…. You’ll never stare him down , just ask Diouf the clown , he’s our great number eight , handed Barton his fat ass on a plate , and it’s all too much for the Huns to take…….. Now let’s all laugh at Rangers cos they died….. But Sevco keeps the comedy alive…….. Our Captain is Scott Brown …………..

The Bollywood idea is really good ,they could tell the story of a young man who was a pioneer ,who played in bandages not boots and who , when old and thought forgotten received a cheque from his former club to help him in his difficult times , they would have to rewrite history though , changing the name of the club etc ……. but no problems doing that for them eh?

  19. Been doing this in advance of the last few games so might as well keep the updates going; the incentives to keep on keeping on….

Our best ever achievements in the top flight have been –

103 points (2001-02) – we’re currently on 100 so need to win 1 out of the 2 to equal that. But a win and a draw would give us a new record.

105 goals (2003-04) – we’re currently on 99 so need another 7. 2 tonight and 5 on Sunday would be just fine!

33 wins in a season (2001-02) – so far we’ve won 32 of our 36 games so need to win both remaining games for a new PB.

32 game unbeaten run (2003-04) – we’ve already beaten that one as we’re currently unbeaten after 36.

Fewest defeats in a season – 1 (2001-02) – I think we are all aware that we are now just 2 games away from a new , invincible, record.

Finally, there’s also the possibility of reclaiming a previously held European record. In 2013-14 Celtic won the league by 29 points. However, last year a new record was set when Paris Saint-Germain finished 31 points clear. Currently we are 27 ahead of Aberdeen with a game in hand. We need them to drop something in their final game. If they lose against Partick we’d need 4 points from the final 6. If they draw against Partick we’d need to win both our games. We can only try to do our bit and hope that Partick get something on Sunday.

    Phew………

Off now to the Toronto CSC to watch the bhoys and pick up some golf prizes for me and ACGR cause we might win but it’s no a SFA (fix).
