BBC Scotland have an excellent documentary on Henrik Larsson tonight; part of their Icons of Football series. The thing that struck me, was how connected the greatest Celtic icon of the last 50 years was to the same events and emotions so many of the fans who lived through those days are.
His unqualified statement, “that league is the most important league win. Ever.” Needs no further explanation. Despite the Champions League win after moving to Barcelona, “Ever” remains definitive in his memory.
It is a journey through his childhood in Sweden, the unfulfilled time at Feyenoord, then his time at the club “That’s where I made the player Henrik Larsson that everyone still talks about”. He takes you back to his early inspriation: Pele, and the focus he had from schooldays to make a living in the game.
The great man gets emotional, you will be too. It’s on BBC Scotland channel, tonight at 10.00. Enjoy.

First first for decades. Didn’t read the article. Henrik was unique, a player who could change any game. Scoring two against Porto and coming up without a winners medal was sad to see. We need an iconic striker next season, for this one hope Maeda keep up his recent form. Any win on Sunday.
Good morning all

No haters in Govanhill young fella. If you’re information is right or wrong you are still the best source of news. 👍
Your
We were blessed to keep Henrik for 7 seasons….

“FWIW, my info from same guy who said Brendan was coming back, when the rags were saying it wasn’t happening, said it’s Askou, take it for whatever, and the usual haters will comment….it’s only what I have been told”.
The “haters”?
You were telling us the other week that yer mate attended an “investor meeting” and MN told the audience a new manager had been appointed and work was underway.
So the Motherwell guy has been appointed whilst still managing Motherwell?

Thanks for the heads up.
Talking of icons , mighta been , coulda been , shoulda been Celtic icon John McGinn has been an absolute standout in the first half . What a player and what a captain .
*sighs*
Watched it earlier on BBC iPlayer, available now.
Van Bronkhurst came across well. Shame he played for ‘The Shame’. 😁
GM- I stopped replying to your BS ,but for the avoidance of doubt, that is what I have been told,I hope it’s true,I think this guy has something and needs a chance at a bigger club, he’s been at a few of our games with John Collins as well, not sure of the tie in there. The way this Club is downsizing, they will take someone like Askou, and will have very low budget expectations, due to the Board’s total incompetence and mismanagement ,if it doesn’t come to pass,I will take my medicine….
GM- Yes he was at the Investors Lunch, and Nicholson was full of smiles, and said we are well on the way to planning for next season with new manager…but these guys on the Board lie…..you know that …..yeah?
Nobody told me there would days like these…strange days indeed.
“……;if it doesn’t come to pass,I will take my medicine….”
No you won’t. You’ll continue to talk pish.
My BS, you say?

Nicholson said at Investors Lunch yesterday, new manager has been appointed, and work is underway…..

Cheers Bada – so appointed rather than process under way is good news but to reflect on another bloggers view, it is a worry given the mess this season has been manager wise that it is the same folk involved in this appointment.

KB- Pal was at Investors Lunch yesterday.

There are Icons….and there are Celtic Icons….
Hope the Celtic Squad makes a point of watching it as a prelude to Sunday’s game.
My first memory of Henrik goes back to the 1994 World Cup Finals, when he played in a very good Sweden side which finished 3rd in the USA. Skilful, distinctive, stood out as a pacy left sided forward. Little did we know that within three seasons he would arrive at Celtic, and without the late Wim Jansen doubt if he ever would have, though you never know.
Wasn’t @ Easter Road for his first game but was @ Celtic Park for our 6-3 win over Tyrol in the UEFA, when Henrik scored…..for Tyrol. Still had a great game though with his non-stop running with the ball. Didn’t get in to the final League game of the 1997-98 season. Another great day was two years later on the final day of the 1999-2000 season @ CP when with half an hour to go Henrik came on as a substitute against Dundee Utd …an emotional return for both him and all connected with Celtic Football Club. And then Martin O’Neill arrives…..

The Bada Bing @ 9:07 pm,
That would be a very interesting appointment…
If he gets it I hope he gets a chance to bring in some players and run the team the way he wants – John Collins in the dug out a big yes for me…
A true professional…
For the sceptics – Ange was appointed Spurs manager when he was still with Celtic – it happens
Hail Hail
John McGinn a Brendan bu………….. oh wait
Anyone else see “New Article posted” and think, oh oh, big announcement been made? New manager? Rohl sacked? Calmac retires?
Nah, a TV programme about Henrik.
BSR @ 9:40 pm,
Always makes me smile when he’s giving his views on top strikers missing chances – and fletch n’all hanging on his every word as if he were a world class footballer…
He’s only held in high esteem as a footballer in England ’cause very few of them actually saw him play:)))
Hail Hail
(which I will of course watch).
Chairbhoy
Only one descriptive Scottish vernacular fits him ‘a shitebag ‘ , can still see the look of fear in his face when he thought Big Roy was coming near him.
HH
A pigeon farmer from Nuneaton, Warwickshire who’s aunt through marriage lived in St. Abbs on the border with England, knew a woman from Old KIlpatrick who told her that she may have seen Aston Villa player John McGInn in a field circa 20 years ago.
BSR @ 9:46, 9:57 pm,
Yes, he did like chucking the firms money about – two million for McGinn, totally off piste…
For a mhan like Roy in the team now…
Hail Hail
Tontine Tim on 7th May 2026 9:40 pm,
He couldn’t lace Tom Boyd’s boots 😁
Good night you absolute shower.
That was brilliant, thanks for heads up.HH
Half hour far too short for Henrik but great viewing nonetheless. Hard to imagine ever seeing a player of that quality playing for us again. Closest I can think of for excitement was early Kyogo.
I find the potential scenario of Askou’s Motherwell pumping the huns(done), pumping Hearts and then getting beat by us in a game that helps us go on to win the the league, before he joins us desirable just to sit back and watch the fallout from both sets of huns.
The bleating would go on for years!
However and its nothing against Askou, but its alarming if he is to be the man.
Are the same people that decided to appoint Nancy, then do it when they did, really getting to make such a crucial decision?
Will they be appointing another recruitment ‘guru’ as well?
John McGinn or YNWA in the dark thanks to the Lawwell disko lights??
And 53,000 dim Tim season ticket holders said:…..
“There’s my £1,000 season ticket money Peter. The lights are so gorgeous. John McGinn is too fat for us. Thank you for making sure we didn’t end up like Sevco. You are the greatest figure in Celtic’s history. Love to you Peter. Hail Hail to you and your family.”
And here we are. Watching Lagerbiekle end his Rodgers nightmare and get to a European semi final.
Well done young mhan.
Sad are the homes….
DeniaBhoy on 7th May 2026 9:48 pm
or the ubiquitous “Newco” (sic) obsession ……..instead of Sevco
hopefully starmer is out on his arse after tomorrow….but then again, he’ll be replaced by another bought and paid for c*nt
