IDAH: FROM CHEERS TO JEERS: WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

CELTIC target Adam Idah was booed by the Norwich City fans during their side’s 3-1 defeat to St Pauli at Carrow Road yesterday.

The Republic of Ireland international striker went from the cheers of the Hoops fans at Hampden in May to the jeers of the home support as he remains at the centre of intense transfer speculation.

Idah, who was disciplined by the club after missing the flight to Austria for pre-season training during the week, came on as a second-half substitute in the loss in the friendly against the Bundesliga outfit.

THE CUP THAT CHEERS…matchwinner Adam Idah proudly holds the silverware.

The 23-year-old hitman, who scored nine goals – including the Scottish Cup winner – in his 19 loan appearances for the champions, is a priority target for Brendan Rodgers.

The Hoops have already had a reported £4.5million bid rejected for the player who has an obvious desire to return to Glasgow.

As his team-mates acknowledged the club’s followers after the defeat from the Germans, Idah headed straight for the tunnel.

The East Anglian team’s new coach Johannes Thorup remains adamant the forward, who still has four years to run on his contract, is going nowhere and, speaking to the Scottish Sun on Sunday, insisted: “Adam is part of my plans.

“It was important for him to come back in. We had a lot of conversations in Austria.

“As I have said, younger players sometimes stray on the wrong side of the line.”

NO IDAH…Scotland international keeper Angus Gunn leads the Norwich City players’ acknowledgement of the fans after the loss against St Pauli – but there’s no sign of Adam Idah.

It’s never a healthy environment if a club attempts to hold onto an unhappy player, especially if the team’s fan turn on the individual.

A transfer is normally the solution, but the second-tier side appear to be pricing Idah out of the market.

They will have to be more realistic or face a situation where the atmosphere in Norfolk will become toxic which will hardly inspire attempts to get back to the Premier League.
