Brendan Rodgers post-match press conference in Yokohama was interesting on two fronts. Almost a year after sustaining a shoulder injury, the manager revealed Kyogo did not start the game as the same issue left him short of the fitness levels even his team-mates were at. If the medics have not resolved the issue by now, it is likely Kyogo will have a persistent weakness in the joint.
A more positive note was struck when discussing Daizen Maeda, Rogers said, “I thought Daizen was outstanding. I like him more through the middle. I think he does a good job on the side, but there is a reason he plays for Japan through the middle.”
This could be taken for a platitude to a player who scored a hat-trick, but Brendan added detail, “I like players at the top end who can really press the game and Daizen can definitely do that.
“It’s just about adding to players’ development. Daizen is still a young player who can improve. Of course, his strength is running in behind, but sometimes there won’t always be that space. So, can we develop his game and get him into areas he can work the defenders?”
That last point is critical. In 90% of Celtic’s domestic games there is no space for Daizen to exploit, at first pass, his greatest asset is unsuited to our game. “Can we develop his game and get him into areas he can work the defenders?”
I have no idea what that will look like. The best example of Daizen at Celtic was at Ibrox in January, when he ran through the opposition defence to open the scoring, but that game was ultimately rescued by the innate ability of Kyogo to find space inside the box. When fit, Kyogo will remain out top striker this season.
It has been four years since Brendan watched a bank of five defenders on the edge of their box with another four a few yards in front, so close, they could almost hold hands, his memory of what’s in store may be more generous to our standard opponents than they deserve. Working them is entirely desirable, I just don’t see where Daizen will do this, if not on the wing.

For goodness sake, another 6′ 1″ central defender?
Sign Shaq … or I won’t be back.
Or sign Kareem, and I’ll support the team.
But don’t sign Gasol because he’s an …. ah … alternative too far.
I’ll get my coat.
Good night CQN.
Anybody fancy giving the two Korean guys,Tilio,Odin a chance, before demanding more players?
Just a thought.
Stupid I know.
A new keeper would be my top priority HH
Dearie me
A Karen reference
CELTIC40ME @ 10:20 PM,
The article you attached could not be opened however I did read…
“Despite their height, Celtic’s defenders have been effective at set-plays in recent times”
Was really hoping for better than that, BR has stated we need more physicality and aggression, that along with height should help at set plays.
I’m not sure where my stance was last summer, certainly the last few transfer windows have impressed me.
If it was, like this summer so far, that we are too light weight and inexperienced for Europe I’d suggest the UCL results and performances didn’t ” work out” and infact proved me correct.
Hail Hail

Indeed
And I stand by that reference

CCV was looking for a team that would appreciate and utilise his undoubted talent
CCV is a great player for us but, on signing for us, his talent was very much doubted. Not just by near 100% of Spurs fans and a few Celtic fans who based their opinion on that. But also by the football people at Sheffield United, Ipswich, Swansea, Stoke, Luton and Bournemouth who had experienced him on loan and did not pursue his signing. Thank God as that left the field open for us to take a punt on this project.
Mooy, was ready for his swansong, he wanted to get fit for the world cup, his wife was Scottish, he knew Ange.
He still surprised many of us as to how good his performances were. Very few Celtic fans predicted he would be the success he was. He was a project to be tested at Celtic level after winding down in China for two years.
Starfelt was playing for a Russian team when war broke out Others who had played for Russian sides were Kouassi, Abdilgard and Haksa were also playing there. Starfelt was being kept out of the Sweden team by a very unimpressive Helander. He, too, was not expected to be the success he has been, including by me.
Yes, we can attract better players but it’s harder than some would make you think. We have just paid a hefty transfer fee for a 22 year old Pole. He is still a project. I have high hopes but they are hopes not guarantees.
This Mod doesn’t take any shite or whoosh yur aff🏃🏃♀️🏃♂️
Mod 88
I have said many times.
Moderation is hard and I would never volunteer to do it. Especially when you are a mod who contributes views too.
Therefore, I would be careful about telling people to chill or calling them Karens. It is your right to not take a side and appeal for calm or to let it go. I have complied myself when you told me a debate was becoming too heated but, as far as I recall, you did not call me any names.
I would suggest you follow your own advice.
And understand
This is the part of me
Who hates being here like this
Who detests me
For banning you from our site
(notice I said OUR site)
And f*&k you
For making me be here like this
I hate this part of being a mod
For waking in the morning
And looking in the mirror
And know I dimmed you
To let OUR site shine
Maybe tomorrow you will forgive me
Maybe tomorrow you will hate me
Know that today and tomorrow
I call you my brother
And pls don’t make me hate myself again
For dimming your light
It kills mine x
SFtBs @ 12:23 AM,
Well I’d agree with that, it is unpredictable and it seems like despite all the scouting, processes and metrics, the proof of the pudding is in the eating*
Yet if you look at…
Odin – €2 mn who we got
Newrocki – €5 mn who looks likely
Rieder – €12 mn looks unlikely
You would expect Reider to walk into the first team, Newrocki to compete with Kobayashi and maybe even Starfelt.
Odin to be a development first team player, more bench time than first team playing time.
Of course as we just observed things could work out very differently.
*Cliche for BSR:)
Hail Hail
And f@%k you all
For making me say that aloud
Just get along
Stop being dicks
Your point of view
Is just a point of view
It’s not a castle to be defended
JUST FECKING CHILL

Good morning all from Govanhill. An interesting Friday night.

Just read back and agree with ST STIVS that the offending post should have been deleted.
It was not expressed in a jocular way.
I don’t have any statistics but believe that the number of suicides in this country have not gone away.
TIMBHOY should apologise and ask for the post to be deleted.
In spite of what the MOD says.

I knew there was a reason I scroll by you.
Suck to death listening about “The Lioness’s!, it’s like the men’s England team multiplied by 3
Just can’t get women’s football, don’t mind if the Celtic women are playing the Huns , might watch a bit,but it’s a no from me……..
Even worse than woman’s football is woman’s commentating, I know it’s maybe not the right thing to say but……quite happy for them to commentate on ladies game , but if it’s an important game in men’s football it just makes me cringe.
If god forbid a woman was commentating on a Celtic game it would sound off for me I’m afraid.
There I said it !
Hope my misses doesn’t read this 😱😂
