Brendan Rodgers post-match press conference in Yokohama was interesting on two fronts. Almost a year after sustaining a shoulder injury, the manager revealed Kyogo did not start the game as the same issue left him short of the fitness levels even his team-mates were at. If the medics have not resolved the issue by now, it is likely Kyogo will have a persistent weakness in the joint.
A more positive note was struck when discussing Daizen Maeda, Rogers said, “I thought Daizen was outstanding. I like him more through the middle. I think he does a good job on the side, but there is a reason he plays for Japan through the middle.”
This could be taken for a platitude to a player who scored a hat-trick, but Brendan added detail, “I like players at the top end who can really press the game and Daizen can definitely do that.
“It’s just about adding to players’ development. Daizen is still a young player who can improve. Of course, his strength is running in behind, but sometimes there won’t always be that space. So, can we develop his game and get him into areas he can work the defenders?”
That last point is critical. In 90% of Celtic’s domestic games there is no space for Daizen to exploit, at first pass, his greatest asset is unsuited to our game. “Can we develop his game and get him into areas he can work the defenders?”
I have no idea what that will look like. The best example of Daizen at Celtic was at Ibrox in January, when he ran through the opposition defence to open the scoring, but that game was ultimately rescued by the innate ability of Kyogo to find space inside the box. When fit, Kyogo will remain out top striker this season.
It has been four years since Brendan watched a bank of five defenders on the edge of their box with another four a few yards in front, so close, they could almost hold hands, his memory of what’s in store may be more generous to our standard opponents than they deserve. Working them is entirely desirable, I just don’t see where Daizen will do this, if not on the wing.

Astonishing that one of the most positive contributors to the site gets banned and given cheek when a guy who comes on here spouting negative uninformed rubbish gets to continue talking garbage.

Good post!
Rarely do I find myself agreeing with Saint Stivs, but he did nothing wrong…..at all.
Just another example of the Mod over-stepping the mark to protect a fragile ego. Did the same when I asked him why he was so sure the vaccine had directly killed tens of thousands…ened up getting banned for 5 days
How hard would it have been to delete the (very) offensive post in the first place? One keystroke could have prevented all of this….

LAST Saturday evening, Aaron Connolly arrived at Celtic Park, to kick off a very long walk to Livingston’s Tony Macaroni Arena ahead of Celtic’s 12pm kick off on Sunday – all in aid of Celtic FC Foundation and to raise awareness around mental health.
His solo 30-mile walk through the central belt of Scotland, on a freezing cold night represented a personal journey for Aaron, who has lived with mental health issues since he was young. He initially got involved with the Foundation prior to the pandemic in February 2020, leading a sponsored walk from Celtic Park to Hamilton Accies’ Fountain of Youth Stadium.
After a stay in a psychiatric hospital to assist with his mental health challenges in 2019, Aaron planned his initial Hamilton group walk and then followed it up by walking to Livingston with a group in March 2020. Since then Aaron’s football therapy initiative, Time to Tackle, has gone from strength to strength.
The past two years have been a bit of a rollercoaster for Aaron, having welcomed another two beautiful children to his family – twin daughters – but also having sadly spent another period of time in a psychiatric hospital at the end of 2021. As a result, he felt that the time was now right to take on this mammoth initiative, and highlight that every challenge can be overcome, no matter how much of a feat it may appear to be. He saw this undertaking as a reflection of the challenges he faces in his own day to day life too.
Aaron said: “Everyone has their own challenges but, from a personal perspective I have survived suicide attempts and my own mental health issues. We all face challenges every day in life, whether it is down to mental health, a lockdown or just everyday stresses. My way of reminding myself that I can overcome these things when I need to is to set myself a crazy goal. Previously doing it with a group of people was a very different experience, but this was a more of a mental challenge, ending in a great win for my mental health and then, thankfully, for the team on the pitch.”
In 2020 Aaron and the group raised over £2,500 for Celtic FC Foundation’s work with people suffering from loneliness and mental health issues and he has already smashed the £1,500 milestone this time around. Across the broad range of the Foundation’s work, many of our project participants face mental health issues, as well as other challenges and Aaron recognised this and was keen to get involved.
He said: “This club was built on charity at its core and I am proud that we are very aware of our roots. Throughout the pandemic I have kept a close eye on Celtic FC Foundation’s work in helping vulnerable people in the community and beyond. I knew I wanted to get involved again by raising money and giving back, as you don’t just walk 30 miles overnight for the sake of it, so it’s nice to give back to others while you can.”
Aaron speaks freely about his mental health challenges in order to raise awareness of the fact that everyone faces obstacles which they need to overcome and they often can’t see a way past them.
He finished by adding: “I hope this challenge reinforces the message that there’s always a way to overcome issues and speaking to people is the way forward. I hope I’ve opened the door for people who are struggling with mental health or everyday life and that they find a listening ear, because if you persevere, you can get through anything. I’d also like to thank everyone for the messages of support and donations throughout my journey as I know it’s a challenging time for many and it’s not easy to find extra money, but the Foundation is truly a worthy beneficiary.”
We are so grateful to and proud of Aaron for his magnificent support. If you would like to get behind his efforts, you can still make a donation HERE.
Or if you would like to get involved and fundraise on behalf of Celtic FC Foundation by setting your own personal challenge, please contact cfcfoundation@celticfc.co.uk

Heart of Midlothian Football Club and Celtic Football Club will unite in memory of Devin Gordon on Wednesday night.
13-year-old Devin, a passionate Hearts supporter, tragically lost his life last week. His mum, Jen, is a much-loved member of staff at Tynecastle.
Football was a massive part of Devin’s life and Hearts and Celtic players will warm up in FC United to Prevent Suicide jerseys prior to Wednesday night’s cinch Premiership fixture at Tynecastle.
FC United is a social movement of people from across Scotland, united in a shared belief that each and every one of us has a role to play in preventing suicide.
Both clubs have come together to encourage people to talk, listen and help save lives. We ask any supporters of any club to talk to someone if they do not feel okay and will be sharing resources and contact numbers via club channels.
Hearts manager, Robbie Neilson, said: “We were all shocked and saddened to learn the devastating news about young Devin and our thoughts are very much with his mum Jen, family and friends.
“We can all get better at talking and listening to each other. One small conversation can make a huge difference to someone’s life.”
Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou added: “The loss of Devin at such a young age in these circumstances is an absolute tragedy and the sincere thoughts and prayers of everyone at the Club are with Devin’s mum Jen and the wider family.
“Too often we are seeing people of all ages lost to suicide and while we understand that we all face very different moments and challenges in our lives we just want to encourage all people to think about having that conversation and using that support which can make such a difference.”
Jo Anderson, Director of Influence and Change at SAMH, said: “We were devastated to hear the news about Devin and would like to offer our deepest sympathies to his family and friends at this time.
“We encourage anyone who is experiencing difficulties to please reach out to a friend, family, colleague or the Samaritans to discuss how they are feeling.
“Talking and listening can truly help save lives, and we’d like to thank Heart of Midlothian and Celtic for coming together to spread that message.”
When life is difficult, Samaritans are here – day or night, 365 days a year. You can call them for free on 116 123, email them at jo@samaritans.org, or visit http://www.samaritans.org to find your nearest branch.
From my earliest reading of CQN, one of the few rules was that there be no swearing. Didn’t our moderator himself break that rule?
St Stivs, can’t fathom why you were barred, when it was you who were abused. Sad.
I think MODERATOR1888 should stay off the blog late at night when he’s clearly pissed. Happeibg too often and look at the trouble it’s caused.
Great signing, getting there.
Centre-back Maik Nawrocki is close to completing a £4.3m move to Celtic, with the Polish club agreeing a 15% sell-on clause for the 22-year-old.
Eratic…I have no problem with female commentators, as long as they’re good at their job. Would far prefer to listen to a match with decent female commentators such as Emma Hayes or Michelle Owen than say Stephen Craigan, Tom English or Robbie Savage.
Other sports have decent female punters, like Formula 1, rugby, golf, tennis, cricket and athletics and you rarely see any calls for them not to discuss male competitors.
Don’t get me wrong, there are just as many poor female pundits as males, Eniola Aluko, Lianne Sanderson and Leanne Crichton to name a few. But any worse than Kris Boyd, Packy Bonner, Andy Walker or Craig Burley?

What makes you think that we will not get €30mn for Jota and Ange, I’ve seen figures of £37mn. We’ve informed the stock exchange this year’s figures are “substantially higher” than expected
Where did you see figures of £37m?
We won’t see anything like £37m.
Once Jota’s sell on fee has been paid we’ll see £20m in cash which will likely be paid over three years. £7m this year max.
In terms of p&l the accounts will show a profit of 25-sell-on fee- cost of original transfer+one year’s amortization. 14,5m
Add Ange’s 5m and we’re at 12m cash, 20m accounting
Why do you think we will get less than €60mn for our European participation this season?
“Why do you think we will get less than €60mn for our European participation this season?”
Because we made around £27m from uefa distributions last year.

I don’t think Brendan shares your vision for the club
https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/10987977/brendan-rodgers-celtic-return-money-love-transfer-warchest/
The Northern Irishman said: “The club will reach out and spend what they possibly can within the model.
“But I think there has been a narrative based around me coming back which seems to be, ‘He’s only back here because he can spend a load of money’. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
“I’m back here because I want to be the Celtic manager and I’m very privileged to be that.
“It’s absolutely nothing to do with money.
“I know where the club is at. Coming back, I’m much more aware of the model, that’s why I needed the time to make the decision to come back, because I needed to know everything about the club and where it’s at.
“So the club has a model it works to and I’ll work within that.
“But there seemed to be a different narrative about me coming back.
“It felt like people who don’t know me creating a story around, ‘Why would he come back?’.
“It was like, ‘He must be doing it because of the war chest he’s being given’.
“It does make me laugh when I read it.
“But I will work within the model which has been really successful.
“We will look for players who are first-team ready.
“But we’ll also look at players who we can bring in and develop and move on. That’s the nature of it.
“Look, there are levels to it all. You could bring in a player at any cost because if he’s a good player he’ll have value.
“But I’m not in any way at all demanding that we need to sign three players at £10m or £15m. That’s not the case.”
Rodgers reckons Celtic fans now understand the club’s strategy.
He added: “Celtic is one of the biggest clubs in world football.
“Sadly we don’t have the resources of some of the others. But that doesn’t mean you can’t be successful.
“And I think there is a greater understanding of that model and what it is.
“It’s about identifying talent and clearly the club is very good at that.
“Then it’s about coaching that talent and developing it.”
Tom Mc Laughlin.,
Not overbearing or condecending at all, those remarks !!!!!!!!!
Well,not in your head.
Very positive signs that everybody is pulling in the same direction. After some detailed conversations Brendan seems to have totally bought into the model

I don`t know how Saint Stivs responded but that Timbhoy163 post is worthy of a ban for its author.
I am offering the excellent Saint Stivs my support and `banning` myself from the Blog until Monday night.
Cheerio `till then

I would do the same but……met a fellow Celt on holiday in Crete last week.
A regular lurker on here, however, never posted.
He said he would post on Monday and I said I’d keep an eye out for it!
Ajeti …is a fraudulent disgrace with no professional pride or standards 😡
Brendan Rodgers said it would be a game of two Celtic sides, one in each half. Might get a look at Holm in the second half
Maybe you should all look into the context and background of TIMBHOY163’s post.
It was very un pc, however he has been subject to sarcastic and disparaging comments.
Bullying comes in very different forms.
Greenpinata, in that case, point me in the direction of just one member on this site who feels its OK to urge another to kill themselves…
Pleased to here Brendan confirm, that the signings so far , are for the future.
Now need oven ready starters.
On the other hand , we can forget the £10/12m signings.
Game is starting

Where does anyone urge anyone to kill themselves. ?
Away and jump in the river means calm down and get a grip.
Well that’s the way I would read it.
Should be 1-0. Maeda wrongly judged offside.
Clear goal from Maeda ruled out for offside, playing some good stuff
Maida scores. Ruled offside. Douglass Ross running the line.
