If only Stalin knew

Josef Stalin was adored by his people. He was also a charismatic man with a plan. He had the vision to take the Soviet Union forward to prosperity. But there were famines and genocide. The starving were not exiled to Botany Bay for stealing a handful of corn, hundreds of thousands of them were shot, all while Stalin occupied the Kremlin.

The means of production were breaking down all around. Newly manufactured tractors idled in fields, because simple replacement parts were never produced, causing production targets to be missed, with a whole host of consequential ramifications.

Yet the people remained in awe of their genocidal oppressor. “If only Stalin knew”, they would say, “he would end the suffering and fix all these problems”. It was Beria, or some other apparatchik, who must be responsible.

“If only Stalin knew” has become a phrase to describe a characteristic of human nature. We grow to worship those who inspire us to revolution and reject all evidence when they drive us into the sea. Faults and failings are blamed on others. If only the man (less commonly, woman) at the top was in complete control, this mess would have been avoided.

You will note this morning that “King took a backseat during the recruitment process as Graeme Park, with Stewart Robertson and Andrew Dickson alongside, drove through Caixinha’s move… to Ibrox”.

The sentiment is clear: what is needed is not less influence from King, but more involvement. The plan is great, it just needs to be executed the way King wants it to be.

It’s not like we haven’t warn them.

Joe Stalin is still a popular figure for many in his homeland, Georgia. Go into any souvenir shop in Tbilisi and you will see his image on many tourist objects, t-shirts, mugs, busts, post cards etc. You can even buy Josef Stalin vodka and wine…he is still revered by many and despised by others…I found the same in Cuba, those who saw Castro as a hero and others who whispered he was a fraud…Chavez-Maduro-Trump…there are even those who still believe Dave King is the Messiah…

jINGS…I had forgotten about that song and video of Sophia…cheers mate.

IF I had met Sophia and/or Kylie for that matter up the Dancin…I would have gave them some of my Glesga patter to lumber them…nae bother !

the late great Peter Sellers ( who was no Brad Pitt) more more or less admitted having an affair with Sophia Loren when making a film together, and the song that was a big hit that came from the film was ” Boom titty Boom Boom etc” sung by Peter and Sophia.

  3. Hello lovely and knowledgeable people (hi to the rest of ye anaw),

Does anyone know if I can contribute financially to the food drive at CP tomorrow? Being down south I can’t contribute with actual food but would like to contribute nonetheless.

    Ta muchly in advance.

  4. All this talk of Stalin and Hitler reminds of my days in Belgium. At the start of my four year stay there I met a German lay brother who described the horrors of his time in the war especially when he was on the Russian front. We went on to talk about Hitler and he agreed he was “a bad man”. But in the next breath he astonished me by saying, “If he had attacked England instead of Russia you would be speaking German now.” The crazy one had his followers everywhere, it seems.

  5. iF only Claudia Cardinale had been told of my existence ?

if only Brigette Bardot had been ….

    Right…enough of that nonsense.

IF only someone would tell Kylie right now of my exis…..

    I’ll stop now.

  6. IF Sophia had ran aboot The Calton…I would have defo lumbered her….whether she liked it or not !

She would have been Mrs Sophia James….long before now….?

  7. It will matter not a jot whom “TRFC” employ as long as the thinking that governs the appointment remains the same.

The reality is they are not any more special than anyone else, have no divine right to be top dog than anyone else and anything they win will need to be earned and not stolen otherwise it has no value.

There is little evidence of a change of thinking or change of heart (a metanoia in philosophy terms) so they are destined to keep running into the brick wall that is reality until the pain of doing so tells them their thinking is insane.

However they appear to be protected from some or much of that pain by being thick skulled.

The last thing that they need is a Ranjurs man who understands their thinking. They need someone prepared to take at least 5 years to change it.

If 10k thick bears walk away in that time – so what if it means finally engaging with reality.

But 10k represents a loss of quite a few bob that greases palms at Ibrox and the media as matters stand, so what are the chances of a real saviour?

  8. This is part of a latest interview by real ranjurs man Alistair Johnston….

“My own view is that we have a better squad than people think and perhaps a new management team will get more out of them.

“A lot of Rangers fans thought the players we brought in during the summer were actually positive.

“I don’t think we have seen the best of them and I would like to think that the new management team will be able to get more out of them.

“In many ways that’s what Celtic did when they brought in Brendan Rodgers .

“They had good players but they brought in a guy who got more out of their players.”

Lets see if his “Prophecy” pans oot ?

What AJ means is there’s nay mair money for players.

Whoever takes over needs to turn the the old sows ear…………..haha!

    We’ll see soon enough.

I think the first time I saw Brigitte Bardot,I was about 10yo.

Shalako,on a Wednesday night after scouts.

I was expecting M*A*S*H,but the season had ended.

That may have been my first-ever WOW moment away from football!

Btw,there are endless reruns of M*A*S*H nowadays, but they’re not the same. They have a laughter track.

The BBC refused one, which made it all the better,IMO.

Of course, once Alan Alda started writing, directing, producing, there was little call for laughter, but heyho…

  11. If you are heading for the game v Killie tomorrow and have mates who don’t use social media, encourage them to buy a copy of Not The View.

There is an item recapping Res12 and setting out how matters stand including the Traverso letter.

There might be further developments in the coming week before AGM from Res12ers, so it might be another week/s before publishing in social media happens, but the idea is to inform as many as possible before the AGM of where matters stand.

At start of September Celtic released the correspondence between them and SFA after July where one reasonable interpretation is the SFA told Celtic (and the SPFL clubs) to Effoff.

Unless a satisfactory explanation that clears SFA of complicity in 2011 emerges before or after the AGM, Celtic and fellow clubs will be entitled to tell the SFA in the nicest possible way – you Effoff. This is going to UEFA and/or a Judicial Review.

    Bang on the money there,bud.

GIRUT,and if there are open wounds, make sure you don’t miss them.

We’ve all been on the receiving end,I’ve no problem giving it back.

Wi a wee oh I feel for yeez smirk.

Two games in a row I watched us play against them. Wi my 100% hun mates.

    0-4 and 6-2.

You take your kicking and then you hand it out,and I’m faffing loving it!!!!

FC Barcelona will apply to join the SPFL, beginning ‘the Journey’, in Div 2.

Wee Lionel Messi has always wanted to win the ole Petrofac Challenge Cup.

  15. Team selection tomorrow will be interesting. Does Bayern on Tuesday mean resting some key players or is Bayern, realistically, a less important game on our schedule?

I would consider resting Tierney ( If Calvin Millar is fit) and Dembele .

    So, my team v Kilmarnock:

    Gamboa Ajer Boyata Millar

    Roberts Rogic Brown Armstrong Hayes

    Then V Bayern

    Lustig Ajer Boyata Tierney

    Forrest Brown Armstrong Sinclair

  16. SOT and BMCUWP,

I can remember going to see SHALAKO in the cinema in Saltcoats ( just down from the railway station) when it first came out in the 1960’s….with my Granny and Grandad when we were on holiday at our usual flat in Canal St.

Because I loved westerns, they were happy to come along with me to see SHALAKO….not realising that Sean Connery and Brigette would get it together on screen in that movie.

In the same movie Stephen Boyd got it on with a very naughty Honor Blackman.

My Grandparents couldn’t wait to get oot the picture hoose !

I also saw BAMBI on my own in that very same picture hoose.

  17. all joking aside DBBIA, if catalonia does go independant , and I know theres a long journey to reach that stage, would Barca then be playing in a foreign country.

Would they they have to resign from the spanish league and join the catalonian league or are we more likely to have a european league by then anyway

    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;

Back in the day i remember being at Easter Road and Hibs beat Celtic 2-0…..with the goals being scored by a certain Joe McBride………I certainly don’t remember a certain Jock Stein bemoaning the fact that Hibs had taken Joe McBride from Celtic…

*actually Jock did but not in public, years later he would admit he let Joe leave too early.

  21. Supposedly Pedro gave all the players a roasting on Monday at the training ground, slaughtered the whole group in English. Then started speaking Spanish to the diddies he’s signed and said it wasn’t their fault it was down to all the shite players he’d inherited

  23. Johnny Hayes? Please NO! A baffling purchase.. Better playing Ralston/Gamboa/Calvin Millar as a wing back or mikey Johmstone as a winger. just stops younger players getting a seat on the bench and the chance to get a run out if game is going OK
