Josef Stalin was adored by his people. He was also a charismatic man with a plan. He had the vision to take the Soviet Union forward to prosperity. But there were famines and genocide. The starving were not exiled to Botany Bay for stealing a handful of corn, hundreds of thousands of them were shot, all while Stalin occupied the Kremlin.
The means of production were breaking down all around. Newly manufactured tractors idled in fields, because simple replacement parts were never produced, causing production targets to be missed, with a whole host of consequential ramifications.
Yet the people remained in awe of their genocidal oppressor. “If only Stalin knew”, they would say, “he would end the suffering and fix all these problems”. It was Beria, or some other apparatchik, who must be responsible.
“If only Stalin knew” has become a phrase to describe a characteristic of human nature. We grow to worship those who inspire us to revolution and reject all evidence when they drive us into the sea. Faults and failings are blamed on others. If only the man (less commonly, woman) at the top was in complete control, this mess would have been avoided.
You will note this morning that “King took a backseat during the recruitment process as Graeme Park, with Stewart Robertson and Andrew Dickson alongside, drove through Caixinha’s move… to Ibrox”.
The sentiment is clear: what is needed is not less influence from King, but more involvement. The plan is great, it just needs to be executed the way King wants it to be.

Joe Stalin is still a popular figure for many in his homeland, Georgia. Go into any souvenir shop in Tbilisi and you will see his image on many tourist objects, t-shirts, mugs, busts, post cards etc. You can even buy Josef Stalin vodka and wine…he is still revered by many and despised by others…I found the same in Cuba, those who saw Castro as a hero and others who whispered he was a fraud…Chavez-Maduro-Trump…there are even those who still believe Dave King is the Messiah…

All this talk of Stalin and Hitler reminds of my days in Belgium. At the start of my four year stay there I met a German lay brother who described the horrors of his time in the war especially when he was on the Russian front. We went on to talk about Hitler and he agreed he was “a bad man”. But in the next breath he astonished me by saying, “If he had attacked England instead of Russia you would be speaking German now.” The crazy one had his followers everywhere, it seems.

It will matter not a jot whom “TRFC” employ as long as the thinking that governs the appointment remains the same.
The reality is they are not any more special than anyone else, have no divine right to be top dog than anyone else and anything they win will need to be earned and not stolen otherwise it has no value.
There is little evidence of a change of thinking or change of heart (a metanoia in philosophy terms) so they are destined to keep running into the brick wall that is reality until the pain of doing so tells them their thinking is insane.
However they appear to be protected from some or much of that pain by being thick skulled.
The last thing that they need is a Ranjurs man who understands their thinking. They need someone prepared to take at least 5 years to change it.
If 10k thick bears walk away in that time – so what if it means finally engaging with reality.
But 10k represents a loss of quite a few bob that greases palms at Ibrox and the media as matters stand, so what are the chances of a real saviour?

I think the first time I saw Brigitte Bardot,I was about 10yo.
Shalako,on a Wednesday night after scouts.
I was expecting M*A*S*H,but the season had ended.
That may have been my first-ever WOW moment away from football!
Btw,there are endless reruns of M*A*S*H nowadays,but they’re not the same. They have a laughter track.

I can remember going to see SHALAKO in the cinema in Saltcoats ( just down from the railway station) when it first came out in the 1960’s….with my Granny and Grandad when we were on holiday at our usual flat in Canal St.
