If only Stalin knew

524

Josef Stalin was adored by his people. He was also a charismatic man with a plan. He had the vision to take the Soviet Union forward to prosperity. But there were famines and genocide. The starving were not exiled to Botany Bay for stealing a handful of corn, hundreds of thousands of them were shot, all while Stalin occupied the Kremlin.

The means of production were breaking down all around. Newly manufactured tractors idled in fields, because simple replacement parts were never produced, causing production targets to be missed, with a whole host of consequential ramifications.

Yet the people remained in awe of their genocidal oppressor. “If only Stalin knew”, they would say, “he would end the suffering and fix all these problems”. It was Beria, or some other apparatchik, who must be responsible.

“If only Stalin knew” has become a phrase to describe a characteristic of human nature. We grow to worship those who inspire us to revolution and reject all evidence when they drive us into the sea. Faults and failings are blamed on others. If only the man (less commonly, woman) at the top was in complete control, this mess would have been avoided.

You will note this morning that “King took a backseat during the recruitment process as Graeme Park, with Stewart Robertson and Andrew Dickson alongside, drove through Caixinha’s move… to Ibrox”.

The sentiment is clear: what is needed is not less influence from King, but more involvement. The plan is great, it just needs to be executed the way King wants it to be.

It’s not like we haven’t warn them.

*the only thing of note that he did was kick a former teammate intae the back of the net, which got him onside with the baying hordes. Hard man no, bully aye.

  3. Kevin Hughes – If Catalonia ever achieves true independence then Barca are supposedly out on their ear. The head of the Spanish FA is an absolute diehard Madrid fan, doesn’t try to hide it either. He has made it clear that Barca will not be able to play in the Spanish leagues.

The word on the street here is that they would move into the French league if that was the situation. You can be sure conversations along those lines have taken place. It makes sense geographically and would give French football a massive boost.

Madrid would love that too :) Eternal domination.

1966 . Virtually always the last choon played at the dancing in Glasgow . Your last chance of a lumber . Virtually every Glasgow band worth its salt was capable of churning it out – often the encore . Produced by the great 8 but absolutely aff his heid -Joe Meek

    https://youtu.be/DRIgpdNZEvA

*knew what this was before I clicked on it. I had a Drifters’ version of it on an EP along with early Searchers hit Sweets for my Sweets, gave it to a sister-in-law who was over on holiday and a big fan of the Cryin Shames version.

It was only a minor hit by the latter but still an ageless tune which was played often on radio and in dance halls in the central belt of Scotland.

Incidentally it was Joe Meek’s last hit before he shot himself.

  7. I’ve sed it before and I’ll say it again regarding the TV deal…..

*The Bunnet questioned the wisdom of spending money on hunden as opposed to putting it intae youth development of the game. Scottish football is IMHO 3rd world and falling.
