If they can become champions of Europe, anything is possible

121

But somewhere out of the darkness must come light.  My generation coincided with Celtic’s worst period.  Yet they still occupied a special place at the edge of my imagination, as a powerful, strange force that always somehow held the promise of a sense of meaning.

And now, incredibly, that promise threatens to be delivered.  So savour this moment.  Remember this place.  Remember the way it looks and sounds and smells.  Remember the way the moment feels.  Savour it when life gets tough.  Because if this can happen – if a football team that contains Catholics and Protestants, a set of players who all hail from the Glasgow area, a club set up to feed the hungry children of despised immigrants – if they can become champions of Europe, then anything is possible.

From The Road to Lisbon, a novel, published today, by Martin Greig and Charles McGarry.

    Anything is possible?

    Bull.

    Rangers compete fairly?

    Rangers fans show tolerance?

SPL referees act without fear or favour?

I could go on forever but I think the case for the prosecution is complete. I expect a unanimous agreement from the jury.

  2. !!Bada Bing!!

Jack Butland has never played for Birmingham yet. He has made 24 appearences at League 2 Cheltenham town this season.

To put that in context, Fraser Forster had 26 clean sheets this season.

  3. BTW

If the BTC is say delayed a few more months and a CVA has been agreed upon and they come out of Administration, would that mean when/if the BTC verdict is announced they’d be straight back in bother again?

I know there is a helluva lot of ifs there but hey it could be fun to see them get hit again! :-)

What are your thoughts on the revelation that Duff&Duffer informed Bill Miller that the investigation into double contracts would come to nothing due to Ogilvie being in the SFA.

Looking forward to next season already, really hope we can get back into the CL.

Doesn’t look likely: Jack Butland called into England Euro squad. His only league experience is on loan to Cheltenham Town.

The Honest Mistake loves being first

Realistic ambition: Celtic play to their strengths, defend stoutly , beat Man Ure and Barca

Deluded ambition: In 1978, Scotland thought they could win the World Cup

Scotland 1 Peru 3 followed by a mind-numbingly poor draw against the mighty Costa Rica was it?

Of course, Gary Hooper should strive to be the best he can achieve but his comments read of someone who thinks he is better than he is including, possibly, feeling he is too good for us!

Joe Ledley gets it, I’m not sure Gary Hooper does!

So Miller’s lawyers come up against the “heavily conflicted” Campbell Ogilvie. Still, astonishingly, not on gardening leave.

I meant to add…Hamilton races – we are pay at the gate and not hospitalty. £18 or so.

  12. Jack Butland’s profile……

    19yrs old.

    Product of Birmingham’s youth academy.

Voted young player of the year.

24 apps for Cheltenham on loan 2011/12.

Better than FF…..don’t make me laugh.

Does Hodgson not remember that John Ruddy is the keeper he is because of his loan spell in Scottish football.

Hodgson has just made his second big decision, he has got it wrong.

The chance’s of the 3rd choice keeper getting game time is slim but cant be ruled out.

I’m gutted for FF but hope it doesn’t influence his decision to sign for us.

  13. Will it happen again? I would love to think so and I hope that one day we will be Champions of Europe once more

Aye…..the msm numpties are prayin’ that the silly season, the holidays, the lack of footballing programmes and the slow grind of RFCia’s demise will magically make it all dissipate and, just like that,it’ll be bidness as usual and they & Thug F.C. can resume stroking each other, aide by their compliant, bent servants..the mibs.

But this was a predictable response . They are part of the currupt mess.

If they play down the whole scandal by under-reporting then it is not so likely to be picked up by the media in England and Europe.

  16. Hodgson has made a number of mistakes…

Downing and carroll picked. Adam Johnson, Crouch and Richards not picked!

Fortunately, most of England does not give two Sh*ts about the national team because John Terry is in it!!

Oh well,if any of us had ever scored 5 goals against Hertz in one game and were still young and were playing for Celtic F.C. we’d be in 7th. Heaven and feeling pretty damn’ good about ourselves.

I loved his 5 star display against diet huns and hope that he felt that this was one of his finest moment to date for Celtic (apart from scoring against full fat huns) but, remember, earlier in the season he was criticised for not celebrating his own goals.

Not sure we got a convincing explanation from him as to why he was behaving like this!

If he’s good enough for Barca, I certainly dont want him to leave. I just think, it’s an easy thing for anyone to say to the point of being meaningless.

To be honest, and I hope I’m wrong, he’s too slow to play for the richest clubs

miki67 summed it up nicely at 10:12 when he said:

One’s take on this will very much depend on whether one is a glass half-full or half-empty kind of guy, so I come to the view that the our MSM dudes, reared as they have been on scraps from the table of SDM, are simply unable (or unwilling) to get to grips with the new reality.

Their days of ‘livin’ off the fat of the land’ are numbered.

    Good riddance to them!
