If this is the acceptable standard, SFA are welcome to it

Our man on the inside, Charlie Green, seems to have upset a few people over the weekend.  Charlie was playing to the gallery with his “bigotry” comment; it is not credible that the 35 clubs who voted against providing Sevco access to an elevated league are demographic significantly different from those of Rangers (1872/3).  Although, there is a good chance that each of those 35 clubs will have a more mixed profile than the former club.

Green is still fending off interest from people with far greater pull with the Rangers (1872/3) support than he has (genuinely hope he succeeds here).  He needs to sell tens of thousands of tickets to prevent his new club slipping into the hands of one of the other consortiums still trying to buy a piece of the action.  I always caution Celtic from playing to the gallery, it delivers short term populism but is surely the alternative to a strategic plan. I am sure several clubs will express their alarm at these comments to the SFA.

Unfortunately, since the SFA failed to take action on either of Ally McCoist’s earlier inflammatory outbursts so they can expect more of the same from Green and others.

Attempts are being made to convince thousands of people a bigoted bogeyman has been out to get them.  99% of the target population will do no more than complain loudly but it’s the unpredictable >1% who exist in every community we should be concerned about.

To the best of my knowledge no Scottish club has ever accused others of bigotry, not even during ‘that’ 80 year period.  If this is the new acceptable standard, the SFA are welcome to it, but it will be better for all if we go elsewhere to play our football.  Our game has been potent for a century but it has now become dangerously unstable.

Let us go now, before this is whipped up any more.  Anyone wanting to hold Scottish football together in its current form has a lot of explaining to do.

It has gone way beyond football and still Salmond and co say nothing, and the SFA too continue to misjjudge the mood of the nation.

Saving Sevco and saving Scottish football are now mutually exclusive, time to cast both adrift.

The sheer arrogance is matched only by the sheer stupidity of the man.

What the SFA are saying, and what Greene is condoning is that without the bigot pound Scottish football cannot survive. Only the hate spectacle makes us attractive to the world via TV.

Is this the picture of the Scotish nation Salmond is happy to portray to the world?

There is an international coming along, a total boycott will send out the kind of commercial message the SFA are ready to listen to.

  2. I truly pray that there are influential Celtic activists presently planning that our club plays in a different league, should Sevco 1690 ever look like returning to the SPL.

A question: Following this debacle if there is no root and branch reform at the SFA and SFL is there anything to stop Celtic and other interested clubs simply posting intent to resign from the SFA, SPL etc going to UEFA/ FIFA and posting intent to form a new FA in Scotland as the current one is no longer fit for purpose.

We cannot be too far away from votes of no confidence in the full time SFA officials.

We now know that Platini et al are no more than empty vessels. Their many words on fairness and rules are not matched by actions. I posted earlier about how it is difficult to differentiate between Sevco and Oldco. It seems that the SFA, MSM etc simply don’t differentiate. The preferential treatment continues. It will come back to bite them – but it would seem it will be non footballing bodies that will do it.

Regan and his pals will not act on Greens outburst, McCoists incitements or the offensive chanting of the Sevco supporters yesterday. I hope the clubs will now find some cajones and collectively address their anger. I also hope that supporters of other clubs will further see what we have seen all along – that the MSM is part of the problem, that the SFA is institutionally biased toward Rangers and now it appears also to favour Sevco Rangers.

We can walk away from the fetid stench of bias in Scottish football or we can help to clean it up. It will be messy but on a point of principal I really hope Celtic don’t ‘do walking away’.

Motherwell have described as a “wonderful gesture” Ross County’s offer to pay for fans to make the 370-mile round trip to Dingwall.

Fans travelling to Saturday’s Scottish Premier League opener on official coaches will do so free of charge.

And Motherwell chief executive Leeann Dempster thanked the County board.

“It’s a clear demonstration of football clubs in the SPL working together and showing solidarity in difficult financial times,” she said.

Motherwell face Panathinaikos in the Champions League third qualifying round and travel to Greece four days after their trip to the Highlands.

“It is particularly welcome given the additional costs, travelling and sacrifices ‘Well fans have to make due to the club’s participation in European competition,” Dempster added.

SEVCO will face another side from the north or east of the country when the draw is made today for the second round of the Ramsdens Cup.

The next phase of the competition is still regionalised and as Sevco replaced Dundee in the first round, they remain in the North/East section.

It will be an open draw today at Ramsdens’ store at the Forge Shopping Centre in Glasgow’s east end at 2pm.

So the clubs Sevco could face are as follows:

    ARBROATH

    COWDENBEATH

    EAST FIFE

    FALKIRK

  11. I would like to think that should PL ever approach the English FA and request an admission into their league, it would be accepted – certainly if that approach was right now. Especially if we were happy to start at the bottom of the english leagues. I also think the spl would accept us going as long as we agreed to provide parachute payments – the spl clubs would have no choice especially if their financial status is as bad as doncaster claims, and the thought of champions league possibilities while sevco are down in the lower divisions might also stimulate competition in scotland once more. However if we wait until sevco are back in the top division – all bets are off.

I honestly believe that the SFA WILL NOT under any circumstances put the knife into sevco. The reason for this is not their love of Rangers not their hatred of Celtic but an interest in their own personal freedom. Now the SFA know this and they know that we know it. So all we will ever see from them as has been proven since Murray sold Rangers is extreme prevarication. The corrupt house of cards That is the SFA possibly SPL & SFL is still standing. The day that the SFA make any meaningful decision is the day that all the dirt involved with those SFA officials that make the decision comes out into the open.

I am 100% convinced we are about to see a re run of last season but only on a smaller scale. Sevco in SFL3 rather than Rangers in Europe and competing in the SPL.

The only way this can be avoided is for the non footballing authorities to get their act together and act. The problems is the Scottish authorities especially the SNP government have jumped into bed with Murray before the last election. There is also the backdrop of the independence referendum.

So the powers that be are quite prepared for this farce to run and run.

Nobody will be enjoying what is happening and even more so WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN more than Sir David Murray.

Once Green Hornet starts to unravel then the extent of the corruption will be truly breathtaking and Scottish football will take an awful kicking from those with no interest in football.

What we are witnessing is a holding position engineered by those in power.

    It is a waiting game.

I am convinced that UEFA are aware of this also.

  20. An 11-year-old girl is slammed for singing the worst USA national anthem ever (DC United v LA Galaxy)

A sweet, blonde 11-year-old girl, Harper Gruzins has found herself coming under a barrage of criticism following a horrible rendition of the USA national anthem over the weekend in the MLS.

The little Texan lass attracted a shedload of abuse after she mangled the Star-Spangled Banner in front of a live stadium and TV audience.

Unfortunately for Gruzins, her decision to warble the national anthem with long, drawn out notes and pauses went down like a lead balloon, and the budding singer/songwriter has now grabbed the limelight for all the wrong reasons.

Whether it’s fair play to attack the kid is now a discussion being had by many US blogs and websites, with many quick to point out that Harper Gruzins unfortunately has set herself up for a fall by having a custom website that boasts: Harper’s captivating performances, soulful voice, and ability to write good music will eventually land her next in line to superstardom!

  21. Why all the hoo-ha about Charlie boy’s comments?

He said: “Some of it has been driven by bigotry, some of its been driven by jealousy and some of its been driven by all the wrong motives.”

I would argue that bigotry was indeed a significant factor in the considerations of the ten clubs who voted against admitting Sevco (aka Rangers in all but debt situation) into the SPL. They all decided that they were fed up with having to tolerate the bigoted hordes who attach themselves to that institution and thought to themselves “this is a perfect opportunity to rid the SPL of bigotry for at least three seasons… so let’s do it”.

And every time Sally or Charlie open their mouths they simply reinforce how correct that decision actually was.

Erik Huseklepp has made the switch from Portsmouth back to former club SK Brann to leave the club with just four senior professionals on its books.

The winger, who made 28 appearances for Pompey after signing from Bari last northern summer, has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal. It means Liam Lawrence, Tal Ben Haim, Dave Kitson and Kanu are the only senior pros remaining at Fratton Park.

Norway international Huseklepp scored six goals for the south coast club before joining Birmingham City on loan when financial troubles engulfed Portsmouth.

Pompey boss Michael Appleton told the club’s official website: “Erik was a regular in the side before the situation changed dramatically here and he had to go out on loan. He was unlucky because after playing regularly for us things didn’t quite work out for him at Birmingham.

“I think Erik feels going back to play in Norway will be best for his international career and we wish him all the best.”
