If you should meet Luis Enrique in Glasgow this week

488

Should Lionel Messi’s illness, which kept him out of Saturday’s clash with Malaga, prevent him boarding a plane to Glasgow tomorrow, Brendan Rodgers will take some grain of comfort.  The Argentine was the principle actor in the destruction of Celtic at the Camp Nou two months ago.
Since then Celtic have more than earned the Champions League credit which has come their way.  Meritocratic draws against Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach have given the club two points more than some observers predicted for them when the group stage was drawn in August.

Without Messi, Barcelona remain a potent force, but arguably the greatest player to ever kick a ball changes the dimension of the challenge enormously.  While it’s likely a few days rest would be enough for Messi to push himself, if necessary, manager Luis Enrique may be inclined not to take chances with his star asset ahead of a huge week for the Catalans.

After Celtic they are away to Real Sociedad, who are only four points behind in La Liga, while the following weekend they have the chance to close the four point gap at the top when Real Madrid visit.

So if you meet Luis around town this week, tell him he’d be better to rest Leo for the important La Liga clashes.

  1. “Would love a crack at a Scotch pie”.Seems the CQN cookery hour is morphing into a Carry On Cooking film.

Really had me giggling like an eejit.

Cold water pastry for the Scotch Pies as you know, and I got a brilliant wee gizmo here for making the casings. No idea what the Turks make with it,but great for the old pies. The Nutmeg makes them taste like the real thing.

I haven’t yet found another option to using a plate to shape the pastry, putting the meat in, raising the sides and then putting string round the pie to keep the shape. It’s a tricky wee job!

Davidopolus ask them if they will get it in for you as the products will be available from the central distribution hub. If I don’t get to Asda in B/Briggs quick smart the wholegrain brown bread is away. Can nearly always get a batch loaf but the Guinness golden ale is getting ale is getting very popular now and at only £1.25 per 500ml bottle it will only get more scarce. The Wee lassie that stocks the aisle always keeps a few hidden for me and I now have a wee stockpile in the man cave (shed). Also the bierra moretti 660ml bottles at £1.66 a pop are fantastic but I normally come over all tony soprano when i have a few of them. So fill yer boots lads but not at the Briggs cause I have first dibs on their stock………….:-(

  5. I’ll be over on Dec 17th and will have some Association of Irish CSC calendars with me. The calendar celebrates Lisbon 50 years on and they are £7 each. If interested leave a message here and I will check back later. I can meet people at CQN corner on the match day or we can make an alternative arrangement.

I would love one. Logistics might be a problem. I’ll let you know, the family will be able to pick it up from you-probably with a few for themselves.

It would take pride of place on my living room wall beside my Lisbon mural-a fantastic present from my sisters a few years back-and the Captains print by THUNDER ROAD.

I don’t actually need a print of it,as I have a photo of the original and can print it off at work, but for a tenner, why be a cheapskate prick(?)

Now,if I could only track down the BMCUWP HOOTENANNY FLEG,I’d have a wall of fame!

Btw,TR spends a shed load of time and effort doing these drawings. He clearly has a huge talent, but he doesn’t batter them out in ten minutes. A smashing fella,I’m proud to call him a friend. Hope he reciprocates!

PS-still wearing my UICSC polo wi pride. Not so much in this weather though…

There’s your problem with globalisation, right there.

Product is cheaper to manufacture abroad,as imported ingredients are now too expensive in the UK.

Then, when they get imported here as the finished article,we get charged 25% more due to the exchange rate. Additionally, tax on that income is paid at the site of manufacture.

Next will be a hike in Cadbury, for example, and other food producers, who moved to the likes of Poland when their wages were low,and so was the euro.

I could laugh at their short-term planning, but again they will pass their misjudgement to the consumer.

    Total shambles.

  22. My friends in Celtic,

Fans of many teams would give their ” eye teeth” to be playing Barcelona this week. It is football at the highest level and we are part of it.

Those of us who are fortunate enough to attend should embrace the occasion. Give the best team in world footie a real Celtic welcome and let the thunder be louder and brighter that the Glasgow fireworks display last night.

Win, lose or draw lets collectively give it our best shot and have no regrets.

    Hail, Hail.

    Semolina?

    A much-maligned foodstuff.

Like most of my school dinners, more than adequate. No match for my Mum’s cooking-as would be the same for most-but a bliddy sight better than most works canteens and pub grub that I had to endure later.

As for the fare served at Glasgow Uni,thankfully The Shish Mahal and Koh-I-Noor were just round the corner.
