If you should meet Luis Enrique in Glasgow this week

488

Should Lionel Messi’s illness, which kept him out of Saturday’s clash with Malaga, prevent him boarding a plane to Glasgow tomorrow, Brendan Rodgers will take some grain of comfort.  The Argentine was the principle actor in the destruction of Celtic at the Camp Nou two months ago.
Since then Celtic have more than earned the Champions League credit which has come their way.  Meritocratic draws against Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach have given the club two points more than some observers predicted for them when the group stage was drawn in August.

Without Messi, Barcelona remain a potent force, but arguably the greatest player to ever kick a ball changes the dimension of the challenge enormously.  While it’s likely a few days rest would be enough for Messi to push himself, if necessary, manager Luis Enrique may be inclined not to take chances with his star asset ahead of a huge week for the Catalans.

After Celtic they are away to Real Sociedad, who are only four points behind in La Liga, while the following weekend they have the chance to close the four point gap at the top when Real Madrid visit.

So if you meet Luis around town this week, tell him he’d be better to rest Leo for the important La Liga clashes.

    Almost certainly.

Yeah still got mine as well, green one of course…:)

Ian was the older of the two Hays, good mates of mine when they came to St. Margaret’s. John Hamill is a cousin of mine. Big Peter also a good friend but not seen him for awhile.

I used to visit the College frequently on a Saturday when Father Bernachi (spl) was Rector. I was destined or not as the long term turned out for the Diocesan road as I took a different path in life. The reason I was destined for Diocesan was due to me having cerebral palsy.

I remember Big Doc, related to someone I know.

Also knew Frank Connor your GK, he too came to St. Margaret’s, his Sister was in my Class.

    Small world indeed…:)

    Keep the Faith!

I really fancied that, but there were 4 of us there including 2 x teenagers – it became a complex set of permutations that never got resolved! Had a great meal then headed for the Jazz Bar in Chamber Street for some great live music before sending the teenagers home on the bus as me and the missus retired to the Batcave. Was a good night!

Naw – I mean the weather here! Last time they were over for Christmas and it snowed they were out rolling in it! Guess they must get bored of 30-odd degree heat! Last time we visited them at Christmas we were on the beach in our swimmers down at Mar Menor – they thought we were mental. :-)))

When we ordered the Mexican Feast, the waitress advised us that the prawn dish was off and offered us something else.

Yes, I think the conversions rate was pretty low for a while before. The experience and friendships were really unique.

Big Docs belt was legendary, in my time Fr Lucini (sp) was the Disciplinarian – a Sicilian who took no prisoners. Quite a formidable pair.

    LENNYBHOY @ 6:00 PM,

At that time I was a regular at the Saturday open days.

I remember we touched on this before, in fact you mentioned someone immigrating to Canada… which took me by surprise, as this was me… when we left Scotland we were going to Canada or England, Canada was favourite for a long time and until you mentioned it I’d totally forgotten.

I’m Margaret’s Cousin… but you’ve got me confused re her brothers (well at least two of them). Frank is her younger brother, her older brother who went to the Xaverians, was Thomas.

Peter and your cousin will know him well, as will the Hay brothers.

    All top people.

After I left for England, around the time the Hay boys went to St Margaret’s, I never kept in touch with anyone (apart from my Cousins obviously) pity really as many will testify some great friendships came through those days.

A Vocation is a tough thing to deal with, especially when so young, but What ever route you take it is a special experience…

I remember Fr. Lucini – though he may have been at Glasgow or London by the time I was there. Fr. Montessi was rector. Met him at a wedding a couple of months ago – still doing well. You get Latin from Wee Zed? :-)

Carlo Lucini was from Cremona in northern Italy he died 3 years ago this December. I visited him in Cremona 5 years ago. He was in Glasgow from 1984 until 1989. I was in Calder Ave, from 1978 to 1984, you bhoys?
