If you think Leigh’s finished, you’ve not been paying attention

It was only a friendly and he took advantage of an error, but Patryk Klimala’s goal against Nice last night got rid of the onerous burden that comes when every striker joins a new club, he is no longer waiting on his first goal.

Patryk is still only 21, living abroad for the first time and has a whole lot of work ahead, but in these respects he is no different than several strikers who have successfully developed into top talents at Celtic in recent seasons.  We know how to transform prospects into champions, if you want to make it as a striker, this is the place to come.

I know that you and me both have a lot of time for Leigh Griffiths.  He has proven his worth repeatedly in the six years since he arrived at Celtic Park, most notably by scoring 40 goals in season 2015-16.  Since then, he has played more of a supporting role, first to Moussa Dembele and then Odsonne Edouard and he returned from off-field challenges before lockdown with an impressive scoring rate.

High standards, which would have been unrecognisable as recently as Martin O’Neill’s time, have been set at Celtic in recent years.  They have contributed to the club being the most prodigious collector of trophies in Scottish football history.  Neil Lennon is the curator of those standards and he knows more than anyone the cost if he lets them slip.

Leigh has a master’s degree in the science of ‘Prove them Wrong’.  He has been written off and returned to the top more than anyone I can remember, whatever weaknesses he has, this determination to recover is a strength many overlook.

If you think he’s finished, you’ve not been paying attention.

  1. i took a wee step back earlier today, because I thought maybe I missed something in the LG narrative,

    Read back eveything published now.

Neil Francis, is possibly my most admired celt,

    However (kojo arsehole reference),

Why does an employer representative (NFL)

    comment on an employee (LG)

in public. critiscing his lifestyle, diet, performance regime, health, pay ?

Very easy to say to interviewers ” its an interanal matter”/

comments on here are a disgrace, anyone else want an internet wide performance review ?

all our employers would say your shite,

quite dissapointed with how the club handle whatever is going on.

  7. Leigh Griffiths during lockdown was an inspiration to a family in Coatbridge who sadly lost a young Bhoy due to suicide … join the media bandwagon but Leigh isn’t the bad yin some might want you to believe … even on these pages

Leigh Griffiths … most natural striker we have … fact :-)

    Hi Ghuys, Salve salve; –

I do not think we will make the CL this season, mainly due to in my opinion we have the wrong manager.

Don’t want to tread on anyone’s underpants but there is a reason he was shown the door at Bolton and Hibs.

I think we will show good for the start of the qualifying rounds but when it comes to the crucial games, probably against some bog standard European team with a tactically competent coach, we will fail.

I always thought he was poor as a player and never understood the esteem he was held in as he had no pace and contrary to popular opinion he was not a great in the tackle. Of course I have every respect for his personal courage and fortitude, that notwithstanding he should not be in the job.

As ever, I do hope my assessment is wrong and I am absolutely prepared to eat humble pie.

As for Leigh Griffiths, if you build your house on poor foundations, do not be surprised if it collapses.

He is a barrier to some of our younger players if the manger keeps up with his indulgence.

For what it is worth, it has given me no pleasure to have submitted this post.

First manager (for us) … and I use “us” lightly … to qualify for the knockout stages with a match to play

    Greenwels :-) :-) :-)

  10. The Huns .. hate a lot of things

    It’s in their nature

Funnily enough .. Neil & Leigh are up there with whatever else they hate

Thankfully the Huns think Neil is a shoite manager and our Leigh is a shoite fitballer :-) :-) :-)

  24. BROGAN ROGAN TREVINO AND HOGAN on

    Good Morning.

Earlier this week there was a post about Celtic monitoring any potential shake up on The European Football front, and a couple of weeks ago we were told that such was the potential financial crisis among football clubs in England that an invitation for Celtic to join the English league was nearer than ever.

Whether you would agree with either or these moves, or to any change with would see Celtic play outwith Scotland, what can’t be ignored is that “the business” of football is now one which is attracting serious money people who are willing to invest with a view to making money.

    What is of key importance to any investor is not how many titles a club has, what league a club plays in or who the star striker may be. No what is important has been described in the following terms;

“We look for companies that have an excellent business, brilliant management and a solid and healthy balance sheet,”

That being so, as a club run under a PLC structure, and attracting ever better deals with the likes of Adidas and other commercial partners, you have to ask is the writing, as opposed to the graffiti, on the wall for Celtic?

I had my 50th ( My God…was it really nearly 15 years ago ?)…in the Saracens Head Inn on the Gallowgate. It was a really good night even when my Wife ( My 2nd wife), decided to do her Marilyn Monroe impersenation on the wee “Stage”, in front of 50/60 of my friends. They all appeared to enjoy her Marilyn “Tribute”….although when she came off “stage” I had to remind her that, her Marilyn “Tribute” was usually done in the privacy of our home…and for my benefit only !

Only joking…it was all good clean fun…….My ex wife was Big Girl !

    LOL
