Ignore vulnerable Milan nonsense

742

The stats tell an enticing story, Milan have played thirteen competitive games since beating Celtic and won only two, but you can forget about them right now.  Celtic are good enough to take three points tomorrow but it will require a perfect match plan if they are to do so.

This fixture will hold no fears for Celtic, who have been over similar ground many times before, but they face players vastly more experienced at playing the intensity of football which will be on display tomorrow evening.  If we are to get anything from the game, we will have to subvert a team who will enjoy the majority of possession and territorial advantage, with impeccable defending and expert finishing.

We got it spectacularly wrong against Italian opposition last season, who were considerably weaker than the Spanish opponents who left Celtic Park empty handed, overwhelmingly as a consequence of diverging from the game plan which left Barcelona scrambling for a consolation goal. This is football at a remarkably unforgiving level, as Juventus let us know; you’re not in the SPFL now, Dorothy.

Did you get to speak to the CQN Girls handing out Annuals at the Superstore on Saturday?  We’ve got budget to bring them along for one last time ahead of the Milan game tomorrow.  See the video below for a glimpse of what we were up to on Saturday and thanks to everyone who has bought an Annual!

  1. LB. I with you 100%. I actually prefer watching Xavi to Messi cos I live nothing better than a killer pass.

This kid has vision, touch and balance if not die for, then at least to stake £2m for!!!!?

Ryan Gauld….Gerry McCullough from Clyde tweeted at the weekend that this wee guy was something special. Believe it or not he referred to him as having touches which reminded him of a young Messi. Hard to believe I know, but I don’t imagine comparisons like that get made lightly for fear of ridicule.

Why not sign Gauld in January or next summer and loan him back to United for a season to continue his development in the domestic game? Medium term replacement for KC!

This boy is the real deal. He has played 24 games and scored 5 goals. He set 4 up in one game at the weekend. It’s only Partick Thistle? We struggled to beat them. This kid played 2 absolute killer passes for 2 goals in one game. Our midfielders haven’t played a ball like that all season. That kid would get people through the gates. I can;t remember seeing a more accomplished youngster since Wayne Rooney. I rate him that highly. I would build the team around him. he is similar to ramsey and wilshire at Arsenal and may even be better than both with games and CL experience. This boy needs to keep progressing by playing and I would put him in the team straight away.

When he goes it will be formore than Celtic can afford

Not too sure about that. Could United really turn down a bid of 3 or 4 million? He may be worth more than that, but reality dictates that a player’s value depands on the league he is playing in. If a big EPL club wanted to buy Wanyama now they’d have to pay around £20m.

Following our e-mail exchange on Saturday, I’ve got some clarification.

Firstly and foremost I owe an apology to Stewart Regan, on Saturday I mentioned an e-mail to the SFA and stated I wasn’t holding my breath for a reply.

My e-mail was sent late evening on Friday and I received a reply by return this morning which clarified the situation vis-a-vis the SFA membership transfer from oldco to newco.

    From Stewart Regan…

“I am happy to confirm that the Board of the Scottish FA did not issue a new membership to Charles Green’s consortium when they purchased the assets of Rangers FC. The application, well-documented in the press, was for a transfer of membership and this was granted under Article 14.1.”

    E-mails:-

    Chairbhoy> 22/11/2013 20:47 >>>

    Dear Mr Regan,

Following the statement from Mr Campbell Ogilvie released today with regards the written complaint from the Rangers Football Club with respect to a quip made by the Celtic CEO, I would be grateful if you could clarify some points.

    Mr Ogilvie stated:-

“The Compliance Officer has informed both clubs that there is no actionable breach of the rules. Nonetheless, I am compelled to convey my disappointment that we find ourselves in this position, as a result of an apparent erosion of mutual respect between two of our oldest rivals.

“At a time when Scottish football faces challenges on many fronts, it is incumbent on our biggest clubs to set the highest standards. In this regard both the comments made, and the subsequent time, effort and resource imposed on our Compliance Officer to deal with the complaint, were wholly unnecessary.”

Mr Ogilvie talks of challenges in Scottish Football, well I’m sure there are, all organisations face challenges but as a fan of Scottish Football I’ve got to say the Football is better than it has been for some considerable time and the National Squad are doing a great job promoting Scottish Football and the Country again, well done to you and your team, the progress in the last couple of years is palpable.

However the “oldest rivalry” comment in the statement seems erroneous, my understanding is that Rangers Football Club PLC the old firm rival of Celtic Football Club went into liquidation, the business and assets of that famous Club were bought by a new company when the Rangers Football Club was in administration, the new company formed a new Football Club from these assets.

This new Club started playing competitive Football last season in the fourth tier of Scottish Football, from my understanding the only time the two teams have met was in last seasons Glasgow Cup final, a junior competition, hardly making these Clubs old rivals, far from it Celtic Football Club have many older rivals in Scotland and throughout Europe.

No doubt the old Glasgow Derby was a (in)famous encounter though it wasn’t the greatest advert for Scottish Football either on the pitch or off, in fact it was often akin to a hate-fest, a manifestation of the worst of Scottish society, before it ended it was the catalyst for legislation on Football Fans from the Scottish government and the introduction of FOCUS, hardly a highlight for Scottish Football.

No doubt with it’s large support and resources the new Rangers Football Club will be at the top tier of Scottish Football within a few Seasons and playing Celtic F C, this game has all the hallmarks of becoming the biggest match in British Football and a large event in Scotland’s sporting calender, wouldn’t it be great if this new start could afford a different attitude far removed from any “old rivalry” that is thankfully gone in my opinion.

However having said all that, it seems that the President of the SFA, who lets face it is in a far better position than I am to make such pronouncements, intimates the new Rangers Football Club is a continuation from the original one formed in 1872.

Now the fact that this Club didn’t play in the SPL means the Scottish Premier League viewed this Rangers as a new Club, also the fact that they had to apply to the SFL and started at the bottom of that League’s structure means that the Scottish Football League viewed them as a new Club, so from my understanding if the Scottish F A view them as a continuation, the original RFC membership of the SFA must have been transferred to the new RFC in line with Article 14 of the Scottish F A’s Articles of Association.

Now I find it hard to believe that the Board of the SFA, the only people who can sanction such a transfer would do this considering the substantial debts Rangers Football Club had when they went into liquidation, it would surly be at odds with the Financial Fair Play that is being espoused by the Football Associations of Europe.

Could you please clarify if Rangers FC est. 1872 membership of the Scottish F A was transferred to the new Rangers FC currently based at Ibrox?

I’ll finish by saying, since joining the SFA you certainly have seen some turbulent times but I hope like me you can now see some real progress and can understand change can be good for the game.

    Regards

    Dear Chairbhoy,

Thanks for your considered comments below. In response to your specific question, I am happy to confirm that the Board of the Scottish FA did not issue a new membership to Charles Green’s consortium when they purchased the assets of Rangers FC. The application, well-documented in the press, was for a transfer of membership and this was granted under Article 14.1.

    I hope this helps.

  18. Ryan Gauld is doing extremely well at DU at the moment. So is Mackay Stevens and others. I would like DU to keep them and offer a real challenge to Celtic. Two teams fighting for top spot and both playing attractive football just might help the game in Scotland become an entertainment. Also, it doesn`t sit well with me that some Celtic fans feel it is perfectly OK for us, the big , rich Club, to simply buy success. I know the business aspect of it but I am a supporter who genuinely sees Celtic as more than just a Club. That is why I support them.

  22. JJ. As someone who likes and admires United’s football now and over the years I too would love to see them retain lots of this great crop of youngsters and be a real force in Scottish football.

Also think Jackie Mac has the makings of a manager of the v highest quality.

But….. The young pup Gauld looks so good that I feel sure he will be bought sooner rather than later. My preference would be to see him in Hoops in Scotland rather than Southampton or Norwich.
