Ill-equipped strikers, King ramblings and a league without Celtic

545

A week into preseason Celtic play their first 90 minutes of the campaign tomorrow afternoon away to Linz in Austria. It will be great to see the team play (CelticTV) but tomorrow is all about getting the legs moving without injury. Thereafter expectations will ramp up quickly.

‘News’ that Nadir Ciftci has been told he can find a new club will have shocked you, I know. You and I had many opportunities to watch Nadir at Dundee United, while Ronny Deila considered his purchase. The player’s languid interpretation of the game made him a surprising signing at the time.

Maybe Ronny knows something we don’t? Was the hope. He didn’t. It was a rank bad signing, one of several strikers acquired during Ronny’s tenure who didn’t look like Celtic players on paper and looked even less equipped in hoops.

Ronny, of course, did try to sign Moussa Dembele in January 2016, so it would be wrong to conclude he had a blind spot for strikers, but you will struggle to name some who ‘passed through Parkhead’s gates’ in recent seasons.

I only caught up with Dave King’s ramblings yesterday evening. He fancies Newco to reach 10-in-a-row before Celtic do so. They stand a far better chance if we leave Scottish football.  Remember when Charles Green promised Newco would never compete in the Scottish Premier League, knowing fine well the league were committed to an imminent rebrand?  Not laughing so much now, are you?

Celtic are always looking at this, always working on one or other strategy.

I think Ciftci had scored ONE goal before signing for Dundee Utd.

We obviously signed the pre-united one.

  2. I see Sevco’s £6m man has been sent to train with the kids and is on the way out of the club. I’m sure there will now be a 0 knocked off that valuation.

When it comes to transfers they’re not very clever are they? If you want to get rid of someone, and he has a transfer value, you keep him involved during pre season and give the pretence that you still may want him whilst trying to punt him. Keep the value up.

He would be a good signing for Aberdeen or Hearts.

Paul, I get the feeling that a lot of fans especially over here are getting towards the end of their tether re the status quo on treatment/defence of them and communication too them by the club… that industry standard “we apologise for the inconvenience but due to leaves on the track” press release re the Belfast tickets was just another slap in the face on this whole sham.

I think this site is at a bit of a crossroads too – I was really looking forward to the Q&A report with the club rep and yet the first one was essentially a series of “we are aware of the issue but cant get into that right now answers” hold the front page, eh. Understand the attempt but perhaps a topic they agreed to answer…

Or perhaps you say to them – you want me to promote your viewpoint, and the good things celtic does (foundation etc) then you need to be able to take your medicine and answer the difficult questions otherwise we say to our readers that you are refusing to answer them

The questions on this topic are

Did you raise the potential linfield tie with uefa before the draw? if not, why not

If it was linfields job have you confirmed that they did?

If a home club cant provide safe access to away fans on a tie should they not forfeit the tie?

Did you make any attempt to arrange safe tickets/travel for local fans? or did you just say “screw them” we throw them a full price exhibition in Dublin every year what do they want – specific examples have been provided re safe travel routes from andytown/falls rd – were they examined? why were they ruled out?

again if the psni said no (1) why wasn’t all this communicated (2) why didn’t linfield auto loose the tie?

We are once again left feeling taken for granted…. how many times do they have to be warned that their communications with supporters sux and dealing with authorities sux

They are cup games. You don’t go into these games relying on chaps who have been there for 2 weeks.

The current squad have achieved great things so it would be counterproductive to get rid of them in favor of new signings.

I’d maybe agree with you if we had sold some key players but we haven’t.

  6. Good to see footie back on the blog – not bothered about any new signings for now – get SA contract sorted first.

In other news, regarding my deletion yesterday.

Here is the article I referred to. It uses language in its title which should not be used,IMO,by any Celtic supporter, and certainly should not be given prominence on a site such as this.

    http://www.celticquicknews.co.uk/celtics-orange-squash-2-games-in-22-hours/

    Aye. It’s still there,shamefully.

I pointed out how distasteful-at best-the wording was,and suggested it be moderated with appropriate punishment.

Maybe I worded it wrongly, though worse things are frequently said.

As the post was personally deleted by PAUL67,rather than a moderator,I conclude the following.

That the article was posted by a moderator, who for once showed some common decency and instead of deleting it himself, asked the boss to do it.

PAUL67 saw fit to delete it,and I accept that.

What I find so difficult to understand is why that same poster is refusing to reply to the concerns of MARGARET McGILL re the Tommy Gemmell interview.

Bobby and Emerald Bee , thanks for your replies to my post about Fraser Wishart.

The SPFA are another part of one of the ongoing problems in Scottish football, not publicly challenging any of the two clubs that played out of Ibrox for their dishonesty and fans behaviour.

Stating the obvious, all those involved in the running Scottish football clubs will never show any desire and gumption to take on the Sfa and the League in getting the problems caused by the Ibrox clubs , rectified.

Bobby, the Jinky star t shirt whether with the silver or green star, is a stoatir. Celtic’s merchandising crew are missing out on a big earner for the club with not coming out with imaginitive t shirts like some of our fans websites and boca 10 do.

As an aside, I’m disappointed Boca 10 have a WATP t shirt as well as others with British flags on them to sell to the sevs.

  11. BMCUW @ 1:29 PM,

    Well, that I didn’t know.

He seemed to me to have a physicality and made a nuisance of himself against us more than once, an attribute that could do well on occasions in the SPL.

Yet it looks like he made a startling return to previous form when he signed by the sounds of it.

In Ronny’s defence, we should remember we had high hopes (thou personally not a great fan) of signing Guidette.

    Hail Hail

Question the running of the club, question the reaction to huns cheating for decades, question the ineptitude of the SFA or their institutional leanings to one team.

Question our players being treated differently by the refs, our fans by the police.

Bobby, but the site cant continue its success if it doesn’t

unless it essentially wants to be the celtic equivalent of ukip – “we were created to raise financial awareness in the fans and highlight the res12 issues” and we did that

we are very quick to constantly highlight deficiencies on the other side

but in order to keep integrity you need ..well integrity and to have open and frank relationship with the club

the point is that we never, it seems and may change, add quality from a position of strength, they will never risk it. Linfield (if they qualify) dont worry me in the slightest, it is our own complacency (happens year on year to be a fluke) in the transfer window that worries me.

I think that there is a case to answer, re allegations surrounding the Tommy Gemmell question.

I can’t comment on the other point, as I have no personal knowledge of the two people involved.

However, over the years, I have come to respect your own integrity, whilst not always agreeing with you.

I am fully in agreement with you on the deterioration of the blog.

I have been on here since the first couple of months of it’s existence and over the years there has been a gradual decline in the standard of posters and posts.

Too many people are determined to push the limits of the few rules that exist and use the blog to push personal agendas.

This just provokes a response from some who disagree with them and ,as a result, the blog spirals down to the gutter.

    Trolling then ensues.

There is no pleasure on the blog now and it can’t be blamed on the close season.

If pushed, I would put it down to basic bad manners, ignorance and an overwhelming desire to appear relevant and be noticed.

I suspect that Paul 67 has very little input to the blog and has more or less handed over editorial control to a tabloid mentality.
