‘I’LL FIGHT TO KEEP MOORE,’ JAAP STAM

1

READING boss Jaap Stam admits he isn’t surprised Celtic are interested in central defender Liam Moore.

But the former Manchester United and Holland international star insists he does not want his player to move.

The £5 million-rated 24-year-old centre-back is on a list of January targets for Brendan Rodgers.

The Hoops gaffer is desperate to strengthen the middle of the team’s rearguard after injuries to Jozo Simunovic and Erik Sviatchenko left him struggling to fill the position.

Stam reckons Moore’s consistency will have caught the eye of other clubs and said: “If he is mentioned, I can understand it because he has the ability to step up.

“But if you want to build a club and go somewhere you’re not going to sell your best players.”

Former Leicester City stopper Moore, who has also had loans spells at Bradford City and Brentford, signed an improved four-year deal with the Championship outfit in August.

The champions could test Stam’s resolve with a cash bid of £5million for the player.
