‘I’LL PLAY IN GOAL,’ ADMITS HAYES

NEW Bhoy Jonny Hayes admits he will treasure every minute of his Celtic career.

And the winger, who made his competitive debut in Friday’s Champions League qualifying 2-0 win over Linfield, has told Brendan Rodgers he’ll even be happy to play in GOAL for the Hoops.

Hayes, who cost £1.3million from Aberdeen in the summer, played the last 20 minutes of the eventful tie in Belfast as a substitute for James Forrest.

He also saw 73 minutes of action in the weekend friendly against Lyon.

The Republic of Ireland attacker said: “I’ve been very eager and keen to play and the manager has probably sensed that.

“Every minute on the pitch as a Celtic player is going to be cherished, so the more time I get to spend on it the better.”

Asked if he preferred playing on the right or left wing, Hayes replied: “I’ll play in the sticks, if need be.

“As long as I am on the pitch I am happy, regardless of where I am to play.

“It’s up to the manager where I play, but I have no preference.”

The 30-year-old touchline flier could make his first competitive appearance at a 60,000 sell-out second leg at Parkhead against the Northern Ireland champions on Wednesday.

He said: “Linfield were tough opponents who sat in and were clearly well organised.

“But to score two goals and not concede to take into the return made it a good day all round.

“I’m looking forward to it and obviously they will have to come and try to play and maybe look for a goal or two.

“It should make for an exciting game.”
