Illegal EBTs and Sporting Advantage question remains

633

Sir David Murray, Campbell Ogilvie, Dave King, as directors of a football club, you presided over tax evasion. While ordinary men and women have no choice, or criminal urge, to avoid paying for public services, you directed a deception on an industrial scale.

Sir David Murray and Campbell Ogilvie have their influence and signatures all over this act. The SFA was quick to discipline and sine die Craig Whyte after he was out of the game, it must now charge Murray and Ogilvie with bringing the game into disrepute. The stale influence of cronyism at Hampden must be routed and seen to be so.

The SPFL instructed an inquiry three years ago but with this verdict in, the SFA must appoint their own inquiry.

Why did the processes at Hampden allow this to happen and continue without check?

Why did Rangers get their European licence in 2011 despite being in arrears to HMRC, in contravention of that licence?  Who was responsible for this decision?

Why was a director and signatory of Rangers illegal tax schemes elected and reappointed president of the SFA?

How transparent were the SFA and the SPL in their handling of these tax evasion charges?

Was the SPL inquiry commissioned to uncover the facts, or to meet a desired objective?  Who prepared the inquiry remit and who signed off on that remit?

Lord Nimmo Smith found that legally executed Employee Benefit Trusts did not confer a significant sporting advantage.  In light of what I have already read of the verdict, we must now discover if such widespread illegal Employee Benefit Trusts conferred a sporting advantage.  This question has not been asked yet.

It’s time for football to shake off the shackles of corruption in Scotland, as elsewhere.

I am indeed mate, thank you, and good luck to you and yours later.

This is a surreal sort of day, one of many since this all started. My phone is ringing constantly, I’ve got an inbox piling up, a Facebook notifications list longer than a Leonard Cohen song (thanks Malcolm Tucker!) and two articles still to get up before dinner time tonight :)

One of them will be a re-post of the Rangers Obituary I did for CQN back in 2012. The three year anniversary was at the weekend and it seems like a nice time to republish it.

But the stories keep piling up today. The Sevco accounts are, well, a disaster … they appear, to me, to be trading whilst insolvent. King will try to spin it … but they speak for themselves.

Today’s verdict doesn’t touch the NewCo, not directly … but the SFA has now approved a guy with a tax conviction in one country and who sat on the board of a football club liquidated by a tax scam. The stink of that is not going away, no matter how hard they try to ignore it.

Our game is run by men in the deepest disgrace. What they’ve allowed to happen here will never be erased from the memories of those of us here to see it, and there’s one book already written about it and a few more will come out through the years to come.

I’ll certainly have a go at writing one of them myself.

Those books are important, for the sake of the next generation of Celtic fans, so they know what actually happened, whatever the “official history books” might read.

This won’t go away. This is PART of the history now. The verdict we want might not even come about in our lifetimes, and you know what? Title stripping is one thing, but I don’t want tainted awards. Black Sunday will be black no matter what; I’ll never remember that day any way but the way it happened.

To me, the verdict of history has always mattered more … and there we’ll have our justice.

  7. Lest we forget

As others have posted, I am sure the LNS fiasco was agreed to be final by the SPL and thereby member clubs prior regardeless of the legality of the EBTs.

I imagine Celtic will have known that it was a final decision though they may not have known the outcome was predetermined. Sound bites from Dermor Desmond and Peter Lawwell do not help the suspicion that they want to see Rangers return. That said they may have been the driving force behind the initial proposal to strip Rangers of titles in return for a place in the first division.

For whatever reason, may have been the inability to sell tickets to Rangers supporters on the basis they no longer had 5 stars, green backed off from that offer. There may have been some pressure from the 1 st Duvision but the money wasn’t enough to change their minds.

Have Celtic, any club or its fans got any grounds for a revisit to LNS or another review of the toxic goings on at Rangers Football club in the naughties?

This could herald an opportunity to cleanse Scottish football and restore sporting integrity for the good of all. We have seen what can happen when it is for the good of one club only. This extends far beyond football though, and deep into Scottish society, influencing Edinburgh juries and law lords alike. The masonic arm has a far longer reach than the unseen Fenian hand , which is why great care and diligence must be taken about what happens next.

    If anything.

  27. All very complicated … So basically

They are 16m in debt ?

Does that include the 5m they owe Ashley ?

And if they lost the tax battle who has to pay back the money ? New board ??

They are hardly going to get money off the old rangers board ?
