Illusive focus should return to Celtic

287

Highlights from Easter Road on Saturday suggest Hibs are very much in the hunt for second place.  Aberdeen have the experience to finish Best of the Rest, but it is disappointing performances like that against Hibs which have given Celtic carte blanche to experiment with the squad so regularly in the league this season.

While Brendan Rodgers will only have thoughts for Zenit right now, Derek McInnes will be planning how to deploy against Celtic on Sunday.  The Aberdeen manager has tried and failed many times to get the better of Celtic in recent seasons, which is not the inhibitor it might seem to be.  He knows what does not work and what not to try.  This week’s discussion matter at Pittodrie will be whether Aberdeen can do what half the teams in the league have already done and take points from Celtic.

As far as the Champions are concerned, stacking big games back-to-back will bring out the best in them.  An away game at St Petersburg before heading marginally south to Aberdeen will bring a focus to the club which has been elusive recently.

I’ve got puppy brain today …. everybody wants to make plans to come over and meet the new pup this weekend …. so, I’m not getting much work done …. so might as well say hello to some of my CQN pals.

are you going to the game next week? 0-2 from last night should make it a comfortable night (except for the weather possibly)

Sorry for your loss but your mother and father never leave you. Same with close friends and other relatives. As long as you live and breathe, and remember them from time to time then they are still here and still with you.

A wee prayer will be said.

Listen Ya Oul Curmudgeon the length of my speeches depends upon:

    A Who is paying.

    B What they are paying

C What they have done in the first place to lead them to the conclusion that they want me to say anything at all!

D How thick (or otherwise) the person or persons to whom I am speaking might be. (For example you should always presume that a member of the judiciary is as thick as shit and so be prepared to repeat certain things, such as their name, several times so that they will remember it and hopefully understand it!)

E The amount of enthusiasm I have for the subject matter of my talk – this is often linked to A and B above.

F The amount of enthusiasm I have for the sound of my own voice on the day

G Finally, whether or not there is a really boring or annoying bugger going to speak after me – in which case I will try and delay that for as long as possible.

My favourite story on short speeches surrounds The 25th President of the United States William McKinley.

The President, who was a practising Lawyer of some note before he went into politics, was known as a somewhat taciturn dinner guest and was not noted as a conversationalist.

At one particular dinner, the host decided to place a somewhat lively and attractive woman immediately to the President’s left with the intention of having her engage the President in some lively conversation and so amuse both him and the other dinner guests.

As the guests sat down and started their first course, which was soup, the lady concerned turned to The President, flashed a wide smile and said “Mr President, I have been seated next to you because it is said that you very often don’t say any more than two words during dinner. I said that if you sat next to me it would be my bet that I could get you to say at least three words and that you would no doubt chat away!”

McKinley looked at the woman, proceeded to pick up his soup spoon and simly said “You lose” and said not another word throughout the rest of the meal.

Of course, McKinley was assinated in September 1901 supposedly by a Polish anarchist. Then again it could be that the guy who shot him just found him to be a bumptious pain in the arse – or shot him because he was a lawyer — which is more or less the same thing!

Re Swalex, don’t want to be pedantic but don’t think I said anything about his qualities as a manager, but he was very successful nonetheless. Someone once said , it is better to be lucky than good. Being a real Bluesman, I reckon if it wasn’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all.

Good luck with the “new dug”, should’ve got a kitten.

Sincere condolences. May your mum rest in peace.

Nothing I say will provide much comfort, but the collective wishes of those on CQN will. It helped me when my father passed away and again when my father-in-law passed away.

I was over in the Ottawa region a few years back and went to a Blues gig. Saw a band called The Mumbo Jumbo Voodoo Combo, who impressed big time with their live performance. The one crit would be that I thought they wern’t sure of which way to go musically. Just wondered if maybe you’d seen them.

  13. Who’d be a fitbaw manager?

How will BR set us up and what tactics will he employ tomorrow night……

Does he play the same team & way as last Thursday hoping for an early away goal….then go defensive with a 2 nil lead…..or does he start us playing defensively hoping to score on the break….who knows….in Brendan I trust…..but reserve the right to criticise if the result doesn’t go our way ;-))

On to conspiracy theories….is it a massive coincidence that the part of the Pentagon that was destroyed was the Accounting Offices…..although I’m sure I saw a documentary since then that says that all that was missing was *cough* $800 Billion…..;-))

And as for the moon landings….am sure I saw something re an exhaustive analysis of Kubrik’s The Shining which concluded that he was trying to tell us that he filmed them on a set…..;-))
