Impact of new signings already evident

153

The impact of our new signings is already evident.  Kieran Tierney did what Kieran Tierney does: knocked the ball beyond his defender, beat him in the sprint and threw in a dangerous cross.  Benjamin Nygren found space inside the box and made no mistake when he met Kieran’s cross.

Benji turned provider for Reo Hatate to double the lead midway through the second half as Celtic eased to the win with no sign of the trouble they had last time against Aberdeen.

Despite the control they had in the game, Celtic still looked rusty.  Daizen Maeda was unusually quiet, then he was oh-so-usually wasteful when clean through with only the keeper to beat.

Whatever the plan is to get the ball to Adam Idah, it is clearly not working.  The big striker cannot be singled out for blame on this point.  This term has started with Brendan Rodgers benching two of last summer’s expensive signings, the manager will be reluctant to sit Adam alongside Auston Trusty and Arne Engels.

Declining the opportunity to postpone our next league fixture (home to Livingston) now looks like a good call.  We have the incentive to put clear blue water between us and others.  The season may only be two games old, but it already has the juices flowing.

  1. Saint Stivs a couple of weeks ago over on FF, there was outrage that Martin was wearing more casual attire than they are accustomed to. Shirt, tie, blazer and brogues is essential when upholding Ranjurz standards.

Now his haircut is winding them up.

Brendan’s tie was last seen holding open the door to Gringotts Wizarding Bank.

  2. Kasper made a terrific save yesterday but only after an Aberdeen attack was made possible by a blatant handball in the middle of the park. Would have been ridiculous if a goal had been scored.

  3. A very funny thread over on the other side where the bears are debating has apathy set in already.

Apparantely there were fights in the stands between people leaving and thise staying, players getting booed onto the park, a bit of happy-clapping at their goal and the winner, then more boo-ing.

The manager gets if for hairstyle, dress sense, shoe colour, vegan dinners, and meditating 9their version of sleeping at the wheel.

You would think taking a 3-0 away from home , you would just go and enjoy the 2nd leg, but a few are saying they can still loss the tie, incredible.

Gasman, the black laudrup and Antman, The white pele, are getting it as well, for being sahow ponies.

Never mind though, they can stilll beat us, but everyone else can beat them.

If our board buys anyone else is the measure for the “managed decline” meter.

  4. See James Forrest’s site doing the old ‘accept cookies or pay’.

Won’t be back on there. Fecking hate them trying to blackmail you into letting them track you and use your data.

Ditched loads of sites for that same reason recently. If I can’t opt out of non-essential cookies, I just don’t go on the site.

  5. For what it’s worth, I thought Topi Keskinen on the Aberdeen left wing looked a good player. May be worth keeping an eye on.

  6. jackiemac- Idah is running out of chances for me,it’s not a school team we’re running, he’s the man in possession, and doing zero with the games he’s getting HH

How bad were the jokes that Tam inflicted on the company yesterday?🤔

  8. Idah is not as some have claimed, the best striker at the club.

    He certainly is NOT.

Maeda is far superior when played through the middle. That is where he plays in his national team.

Currentls played out of position IMO.

  9. Deniabhoy…………….Undoubtedly Daizen pllayed brilliantly last season

but he didnt escape some severe criticsm in his early days at the club.

Many saying he was an athlete with little football skills who could run

all day. He took a while to settle but is now one of our best players.

Engels and Idah a 20 goal striker in his first full season have also had

their critics unfairly in my and BR’s opinion.

  10. the manager will be reluctant to sit Adam alongside Auston Trusty and Arne Engels.

why would that be the case , if Idah is not doing what he gets paid for , why not other than save face.

    >>>>>>>>

I absolutely believe that if they had scored, VAR would have ruled out the goal as the handball happened in the same phase of play.

However if the resultant corner from Kasper’s great save had resulted in a goal, VAR has no recourse.

The handball happened directly in front of Beaton and no advantage accrued to Celtic; he should have blown for it immediately.

Apparently John Beaton mouthed “ accidental “ to the Celtic players that claimed for the obvious handball. Flashback to Calum last week for a very different outcome for the same accidental handball that was played on by the referee?

  14. Bournesoup – thanks – if that is the case then the rule says that another player can score from the deflection.

Calmac’s accidental handball went to him so IMO the goal should not have stood.

Brighton manager talking about how they do recruitment. Says it’s not just about the data – they look at how the player reacts under pressure, can they integrate into the dressing room. Everyone is involved in the process.

  18. Irving hardly ever gets a game for the Hammers and is surplus to requirements..

I read in a WH site we had offered 1.7 million for him which was rejected. Probably nonsense but sounds like us

I also thought BR said he was happy with the cover in defence and midfield. That it was the front line that the focus was on. Unless another midfielder is about to leave?

Bernardo, Nygren, Reo, Luke, Calmac, Engels . . .

  19. Maeda is never a left winger.Poor crosser, not great dribbling skills, and his pace only seen in fleeting moments.I noticed on Sunday, after a dire 1st half,he improved greatly after the break. Not in the winger skills, but what we all love him for, using his pace to chase back.

Through the middle,an absolute menace.Even the last 4 sitters he has missed, clean through, its his pace that got him there, and he scored plenty from similar during the season. Also lets him harry more defender trying to play out.Two good wingers, and we will terrify teams.

On Sunday,I thought Scales passing was very poor, after a very good game previous.4 or 5 passes to Red shirts very dangerous.I like him but prefer Trusty.

Talking about wingers, another one of BRs fancies, off to Holland for £4.5 million,Orjaester.

This roughly the price range for the other two winger we want,so not fortunes.

Not getting into the disgraceful situation, but some must be soooooo proud of the way the window is going.Funnily enough, they say we are not able to get more expensive players to come, but when asked to buy in the market that suits their threshold,we don’t even want to pay that.Soooooooo proud.

  20. I see on X that MoR is close to leaving Brighton for Juventus. Would be a great move if true

  21. Irving is a big favourite of the Hammers fans.Don’t know why.Have never seen him play.

    £1.7 million,is from a Hammers site.I would bet its true. 🤔

  22. Idah is at Celtic to live an Irishman’s dream.

BUT, what Idah was unaware of, is that Celtic of the folklore books played at all times with 2 strikers playing on the edges of, or even better, inside the opposition box, which created great fairy stories, and all sorts of uplifting, inspiring, magical experiences for the countless thousands who cheered them on week, after week.

All of this was true, until Mr Rodgers played with only one striker in every game.

And when asked about this, by a woke girly/boy journalist, Mr Rodgers would normally reply, “Well, we at Celtic, are progressive, we always play with a front 3, taking the game to the opposition with our high press, yadda, yadda, yadda,….”

But, Mr Rodgers also knows that, no journalist has the balls to pin Mr Rodgers down and emphasise, that, Journo:

[ “Mr Rodgers, You say that you play with a front 3, which you do, but you only play with one striker out of that 3, which is an impairment, is it not? Because it looks like it to me? An impairment on lets say, Adam Idah, who might not have played with a striking partner since he arrived at Celtic, over 2 years ago?

Also in that 2 years, Adam has not heard his name being sung once, even though he scored a SCF winning goal vs Rangers, yet still not a single song?

The Celtic fairy story? WTF is that? The stadium is a morgue, without them ragamuffins up in the corner, isn’t it, Mr Rodgers?

And yet, Mr Rodgers, when those ragamuffins got banned, you Mr Rodgers, and your expensively cobbled together team, Mr Rodgers, you got found out, Mr Rodgers. Didn’t you, Mr Rodgers?

And aalso, if I may. You, Mr Rodgers, have not once asked in public why the fans don’t sing Adam’s name? Is there some break down on Celtic’s club cohesion, Mr Rodgers? Are you all on the one page, Mr Rodgers?

Do you, Mr Rodgers, feel that Scottish football is now a lying s### show, full of liars, who have never been ASKED, never mind ANSWERED, a real searching, get to the truth type of question, that only Gerry McNee would ask?

Are you, Mr Rodgers, grateful to be in that very privileged position, that the level in journalism and media, now sucks so bad, that it is way underneath, sewer level? You really are a lucky bhoy, aren’t you, Mr Rodgers?

Are you thanking whoever you pray to, that you are not sat here, next to a certain, George Galloway? Here in the studio asking you, George Galloway, “burn their houses down”, types of questions?

Do you know that you are actually living, Mr Rodgers?

Do you? Do you really, Mr Rodgers?

Thank you. I’ll see myself out, Mr Rodgers.” ]

Yes , he’s been a bit of an enigma with West Ham.

Apparently they call him “ The Irn-Bru iniesta ” 🥴

  24. Lennon Miller will get better in a better team.

Attitude, skill and intelligence can compensate for a lack of pace.

Modern football managers seems to value athletes over skill. They want players who can run the length of the park at speed of a 100mtrs sprinter. How quick do you need to be for tippy tappy. If of course you have the ability to retain the ball constructively.

I can easily think of a few decent players with a lack of pace.

Teddy Sheringham was famed for a lack of pace.

Closer to home Charlie Adam carved out a decent career for himself and should have done better. Imo, his attitude was more a problem than lack of pace.

Even one of the greatest midfielders ever seen and who could realistically play sucessful tippy tappy was not famed for his overall pace. He used intelligence, quick short bursts of speed with the ball glued to his feet and precision passing. He used his brains.

Has there ever been a better play maker than Andres Iniesta?

physicality and or athleticism is a must for a team of our level.

we have been horsed in europe by supposedly lesser teams due to their athleticism.

I think you have described why our Academy is not the success it could and should be.

The average Scottish male is 5 ft 9ins. Not big enough for a big physical team. Subsequently, we tend to go foreign for that size of player.

I remember the storm that WGS created when he questioned Scottish Genetics.

If that attitude is still prevalent, it could explain the youth academy dilemma.

green pinata – i’m not advocating giants – just stronger more physical players – with basic technique at a good percentage

  30. If we’re genuinely looking at midfielders then I’d fear we’re losing Hatate. Midfield is the one area where we’re pretty strong for cover.

Excuse me for jumping in. I’m just back from Turkey, a place I like a lot. A few years ago I spent some days in Istanbul, not enough time I’m afraid to see all there is to see. However, visits to the Hagia Sophia Mosque, the Blue Mosque and the Grand Bazaar are imperatives, the rest of the time you can spend eating the superb food. I’m sure you and your good lady will enjoy yourselves…
