Despite a good result at Easter Road, Celtic were unable to put any distance between themselves and nearest challengers, Aberdeen, who matched their two-goal win at home to St Mirren.
It took less than three minutes for Nicolas Kuhn to open the scoring against Hibernian with a peach of a goal. Kyogo’s shot was spilled by Bursik in the Hibs goal, James Forrest was first to react and smashed the ball low across the face of goal. The ever-alert Kuhn was on his toes and slid the ball into the empty net at the far post.
Callum McGregor doubled the advantage with what will surely be goal of the month in 19 minutes with a thunderous shot from 26 yards. The main surprise by halftime was that Celtic’s advantage was not greater. Hibs only consolation was that they were facing Celtic, not Dundee.
The second half was largely a different story. Poor distribution by both central defenders, and on one occasion by Kasper Schmeichel, and a drop-off in movement in the middle of the park, allowed Hibs some time on the ball inside the Celtic half. They threatened and (if they were any better) could have narrowed the gap, but Celtic always had a few gears to move up.
It is early days but the three-in-a-row champions are already looking imperious.

AN TEARMANN
Do you honestly believe had we came in on the first day of the window and said this is our offer take it or leave it, £8.5m plus £1m add ons and 15% sell on fee, oh and he’s desparate to leave, they’d have turned it down?
We’ve just wasted time/saved wages.
All about one’s own perspective I guess
I think the worlds gone a bit mad if people are still arguing about Brendan not getting what he wants on the day we paid our record transfer fee for Adam Idah.
Perhaps an argument for another day?
I think Brendan will have gone to bed very happy tonight
Not so sure that’s true of all of us
Is ait on mhac on saoil é.

Oh out the door, scored 5 goals last season in just over 700 minutes.
Not a huge contribution, but bit nothing.
Once he’s replaced we’ll be back to where we were.

Cheers MB.
Adam Idah replaced Oh as our second striker when he signed on loan on 31 January.
After that date Oh played 25 minutes across two games and didn’t score.
He stopped making the squad months before season ended.
“Once he’s replaced we’ll be back to where we were”
Arithmetically correct … but that would also mean a guy picking up a wage for doing nothing … and would be at odds with Brendan’s two guys plus a young guy preference.

Last sentence is one way of looking it based on information available …. and I totally understand such a stance.
Looking at the same facts from a different perspective?
During that “dithering” period, we’ve created financial capacity with the sales of Oh and Lawal and the haggling over Bernardo …
… which allows us to push the boat out a little further for Adam
… without impacting the financial capacity to make more signings in the next 19 days.
🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Shockeroony,James Forrest not happy.Earlier he was touting for demonstrations by the fans this weekend. Now throwing his dummy out the pram, demanding someone gets sacked for the Idah signing.
Total fud.😥😥😥😥😥😥
Celtic getting stick for spending money.
Oh FFS.Away and listen to yourselves.

===========================
I honestly believe that if we came in on day one and offered the figures you suggest above the deal fee would have been a lot higher than you suggest
Reasons-
-A new Norwich manager wanting to see his squad
-NCFC holding the cards contractually,i believe 3 years left.(maybe wrong 2+)
-Celtic known to be cash rich,NCFC as there new manager settled in needing more cash
-No fee deal concluded at loantime in january, lesson to learn as Bada implies
– Adam Idah on a higher wage at NCFC.
What i honestly believe is they are multi£million complex deals and i only reference a few points in that complexity Malone bhoy.
Way to simple when negotiating a deal to say we have just wasted time and saved wages, its real money not playstation manager Malone bhoy.
I am glad he is here and hopefully 1st of several to improve our team
Hail Hail
Last word from me tonight.
Don’t know much about O’Shea other than MOTD highlights of Burnley last season.
Suggestion tonight that he looks great in an English Championship match is good enough for me (genuinely).
Mikey Johnston looked great in many English Championship games last season.
A straight player swap ought to get the job done?
Right,Meteor shower now starting over the Age an.Sitting on board, with a chilled Peroni,to watch the show.
Not the only shower around tonight.🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
BORGO…
‘Did someone on here really suggest we get rid of Reo because he wasn’t at his best at hibs?’
————
Over a coupla posts I wrote I was frustrated by Reo’s general inconsistency – he’s Ntcham-like imo. Another point I made was IF we had to lose a midfielder now I’d prefer it was Reo rather than Matt, who I said might be persuaded to enjoy x8 champions league games before he flew the coop.
Seems someone omitted all that context and inferred it was silly to ditch Reo based on a couple of patchy games. That wasn’t what I said but a few others shared their concerns about Reo being a bit hot and cold.
Welcome to Celtic Adam Idah; bought at an Odsonne Edouard style price (inflation notwithstanding).
News from tonight-
“Mark Attanasio’s Norfolk Holdings group have agreed a deal to take majority control of Norwich City from Delia Smith and Michael Wynn Jones.”
Just maybe- this had something to do with the timing of the deal.
——————————-
Below are comments from Norwich fans on Idah being sold from Pink Un. They seem happier than us and they’ve just been relegated-
Oh well, good luck to a player who actually made an effort against Oxford (along with Forson). We just need Sargent to go as well and we will be talking about a false 9. Perhaps Hanley to fit in there.
Good business that. Good luck to Idah and let’s hope we have a good replacement or two lined up
Decent work by Knapper. Next question: how much of this will be made available to bring in new players?
Good luck to him . He can hold his head high . Gained a lot of respect from his effort on sat when he could have easily not played. 2/3 ins massively needed this week now .
Good negotiating. Better deal for us than for Celtic. Will fee be reinvested though?
It’ll be interesting to see how quickly he falls out of favour for regular selection up there. Because it will happen sooner or later! For us, almost double figures with the extras is a great result. We’ll soon forget about him – like this evening!!!
Better deal than I thought we’d get. Good luck Adam now you’ve got your wish and are moving on. Now we have to do the same.

I would say NCFC being sold today would have a big impact on the timing of the deal,i didnt know that when typing my answer to Malone Bhoy.

When a club is switching owners, all transfers in & out are suspended until the new owners are in place
Given that DimDumb has about 20+ fan websites on Celtic cyberspace the poor wee Dimmy’s have to wait until Jane [ Ibrox ] Lewis tweets that Adam Idah is a done deal.
Ah mean, where was Phil the shill?
Probably tooth combing Ibrokes for evidence of Asbestos in the concrete for his new book?
I didn’t see any £20 million O’Riley or Hatate at Easter Road on Sunday.
Indeed since the former Aberdeen manager played MOR and RH out of the SCSF last April with his wily tactical web which BR hasn’t been able to free his playmakers from in practically every domestic game since.
If Celtic has a manager who only deploys one playing script [ because that’s all he knows? ] then when the manager can’t make Celtic’s ‘sellable’ assets shine brightly and ready for sale, how long before the PLC need to have a word in BR’s shell?

Good Morning Celts – Grand Day To Be A Tim,
Looking like we are finally getting the Adam Idah transfer finalised – gmthat will be great news, paying an “English” price for the player is raising eyebrows yet that’s where we are.
For me Adam is great value; a fast, strong, aggressive, technically gifted striker is going to hold / increase in value more than the sublime assets of a Kyogo – it’s just where footballs at, at the moment.

Bit of straw clutching there ghuys:)))
Mark Attanasio has been a Director of Norwich City with Delia Smith and Michael Wynn Jones for a couple of years now.
The Majority shareholding in Norwich moving from Smith and Wynn Jones to Attanasio had no material difference on player sales (maybe player recruitment, we’ll have to see).
There were three main Norwich City players in play this window, Gabriel Sara, Adam Idah and Jonathan Rowe.
Gabriel Sara was sold last week for 20 mn, Adam Idah is presently transferring to Celtic and Jonathan Rowe’s move has yet to be finalised, absolutely no reason to assume share transfers have had any material impact on that.
Norwich City has not been “sold” and speculation that the transfers of shareholding which would have been a longterm plan, had anything to do with Adam’s transfer is pie in the sky.
Which actually brings us to the real question.
An TEARMANN, SFTBS…
You always state you aren’t Board apologists, don’t you?
So tell me please, why are you flying this kite?
Hail Hail
I think we paid more for Idah than ideal but I still see him as a great add to the squad and a good counter balance for Kyogo.
He has the ability to change the game for Celtic and showed composure twice in a red hot atmosphere to make sure der hun were celebrating a 3-3 draw and not a win, then to secure the double.
If Norwich were paying attention they’ll have seen he is worth more than face value to Celtic but I think BR feels the same way too.
A new CH and LB that Brendan has faith in, then I’ll be happy; more if they are quality. Night y’all.
Swings and roundabouts, we paid a bit more for Idah, and a bit less for Bernardo, we have paid for them with selling squad players, Abada,Oh,Vata,Lawal,at a time when we need to reduce squad numbers. To be fair Abada made a good contribution, and ended up on the periphery due to circumstances. Other clubs know that we are cash rich, and will chance their arm.I think that we still need a left sided CB,LB,possibly 2 MFs,another striker, some named in the frame
O’Shea
Mepham
Porteous
Beck
McCowan
Doak
And a few more I’m sure,Idah still a bit to learn,I would love to see BBJ coaching him a couple of days a week, to use his body better to shield the ball, and bring others into play.
Good morning all from Govanhill.
QUADROPHENIAN
Fair to say I didn’t see your original post, I usually do read back .
Delighted Idah on board – plenty of time for other suitable additions. HH
Welcome back to Celtic Adam son and kudos to the club for patience and perseverance.
He who dares wins.
Expect him to get 30 minutes or so on Sunday v Hibs.
Bring it on.
https://thecelticblog.com/2024/08/articles-and-features/if-owen-beck-is-celtics-left-back-answer-weve-spent-the-summer-asking-the-wrong-question/
Is Owen Beck a better player than Greg Taylor , is he taller . If we’re thinking of a new left back hopefully it will be a big unit able to cover the back post , as that’s the one fault I see with Greg .
Idah signing is great news. Top lad, top player, will terrorise Scottish defences. Again.
If we paid the reported £9.5M (inclusive of add-ons) we’ve botched the negotiations. We could have had him in June for that price.
Nonetheless great to have secured him and I we can get Owen Beck in and tie wee Greg down to a new contract we’re in good long-term shape at left back.
Centre-back remains a weakness. Scales has come on terrifically and is a perfectly good LCB now. However, we have 3 Lawwell Jr fails bloating the squad out. We need to move Kobayashi, Lagerbielke and Nawrocki out and replace them with one high quality addition. Assuming we hold onto Welsh too.
Losing Matt will leave an enormous hole in our team. Brendan is right that we won’t be able to replace his level of talent. Maybe it creates an opportunity for Daniel Kelly as we really do want to see our talented young boys being rewarded with a pathway to the first time. Improve his contract and promise him more game time? Maybe with someone like McCowan coming in to the squad? Bernardo will be first pick and let’s see if Holm can get to the necessary level. Surely even Lawwell Jr can get one right now and again… even if it does take years of development.
Brighton have just splashed out 25m for a 19 year old German midfielder.
https://x.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1823244845978165400?t=zePOBF9F1NsxgXTolu61SQ&s=19
That’ll surely mean MOR not heading there I’d imagine.
Hmmmmmm………so Abada was a “squad player”🤔
GM- if you read it all,he ended up a squad player,he was out more squads than he was in,and made a very good contribution previously.
Fantastic signing Celtic. Congrats to BR and DD.
Great time to be a Celt.
With regards Abada it’ll be interesting to see what the deal was heard the figure of 10m relieved.
The spend on Idah should have been prevented as a purchase clause should have inserted.
Renato Tapia linked and apparently on his way to us next.

Maestro- that guy riddled with knee injuries….
A preseason tour when we beat man city and Chelsea
Two domestic games against the two teams who have probably given us the most problems over the last couple of seasons – 6 goals, two clean sheets and enjoyable, very comfortable performances
Signed two players who started on the bench last season for £13m
Broke our transfer record for a player who we won’t be making a profit on, who doesn’t fit the development model, who Brendan clearly wanted and for whom we overpaid by £3.5m by a lot of people’s reckoning. Manager backed, player in 5 weeks before the start of the Champions League
But it still seems to be all about the timing of his transfer. Even though it has made no material difference to results, even though it’s clear that the board has “backed” Brendan. That it doesn’t matter is as clear as the nose on your face.
Supporting Celtic online is pretty crazy at the moment. Even the return to playing football games and winning well doesn’t seem to have changed anything, if anything the hysteria seems to be getting worse
When are people going to get this? Celtic asked Norwich for a loan-to-buy option in January but Norwich weren’t interested.
How many times will people believe Celtic can just unilaterally decide to take a player on a loan-to-buy option without the lending club having a say in the matter?
