Important takeaways from Uefa comment on Postecoglou

364

Today’s news cycle is dominated by comments from a Uefa spokesperson who confirmed Celtic have applied for an exemption for Ange Postecoglou from holding a Uefa Pro Licence.  There are important takeaways from this.

Ange’s signature must be on this application.  This could only happen if he had permission from Yokohama, his current employer, and contract terms had been agreed.

Exemption will be granted, this facility is there to provide for candidates like Ange.  The Pro Licence requirement is there to ensure standards in the European game, not to act as a closed shop.  Celtic are pursuing a similar Work Permit application to allow him to take up employment in this country.  This will occupy another day’s news cycle, but Ange will meet this requirement too.

Yes, Ange will not be able to take charge of a Celtic game for weeks, but our June schedule has been kind in this respect.  There is nothing to stop him planning a squad or backroom team for next season, I expect he is at least a week into this process.  If he’s good enough, the hassle getting him here is worth it.

Pretty gutted at the booing when England players took the knee at the Riverside Stadium last night.  Must be horrible for the players.  Hard to believe we are in 2021.

Having read that article, I can’t see how the Scottish team’s situation is any different from Celtic going to Dubai. Personally, I think it sounds a lot lot worse. We complied with their protocols.

It reminds me of their celebration after David Marshall’s penalty save. The SNP Government simply ignored their drinking and boogying together.

I was wondering how many buses they had to use to transport players and staff to and from different areas .

Fairly minor but still unacceptable comments from Clarke.

Indicative of the general arrogance in the SFA.

    Tail wagging dog stuff.

The association is made up of the clubs.

This isn’t a two way street.

The clubs are ENTITLED to be publicly critical of the association which represents them.

Employees of that association have absolutely NO RIGHT to comment on what they believe is going on at individual clubs (except in disciplinary matters).

    None.

Reasonable people on day 1 of a new job at Ibrox will become rabid bigots.

Celtic leaning new starts at the SFA will eventually learn to tug their forelock.

Kris Ajer has admitted that it is likely that he will likely be leaving Celtic this summer. The central defender is on international duty with Norway and told the media that due to his contract situation, he believes that the best outcome for all parties is if he moves on this summer.

That was my feeling . Clarke’s comments were fairly innocuous but he shouldn’t have fallen for it . The baws that really need booted are those of the slimy journo who teed him up .

  9. I too thought Clarke’s comments were fairly innocuous. But it does show, imo, that we are as far away from that old level playing field as ever.

Scotland can’t or won’t look into it’s shame.

  10. Surely we can’t appoint Ange to the manager’s position after what the former Dundalk manager has to say. He didn’t have the proper licence either and Dundalk was fined and threatened with a European ban. He was banned from even entering the stadium so he resigned for the club’s sake. The precedent has been set. We are wasting valuable time. It looks as if no due diligence has been carried out. On to next candidate. Plan C. We need a new manager before season ticket renewal date on 25 June.

Wow! Interesting . I googled an article on this , having known nothing about it . If Ange’s current licences are not transferable , we could be in big trouble , with John Kennedy and co running the show in Europe .

I take it our custodians researched all this , including the Dundalk situation , in their due diligence . ‘Cough’.

  13. If someone paid me a salary of over £1m a year .

I’m sure I could come up with a dozen decent candidates for the managers job.

  14. Please stop reacting to celtic news now stories or msm as if they are factual- they are designed and written to stress you out.

“SFTB…It appears that you agree with Brian Wilson ( Apologises IF I am wrong ?)…Sorry but I strongly disagree.”

    —————————————–

I like most of what Brian Wilson did during his political career. I also accept him as a genuine Celt who got elected in a constituency where that allegiance would not have helped.

I read the full article. Brian Wilson was not asking for exceptionalism for Sevco fans, He was stating that the Government and the Police should have made better efforts to contain what was going to happen and that crowd gatherings at containable spots like Ibrox would, at least, have made the “everyone head for George Square” mob a less numerous number. It would also have placed more responsibility on the Ibrox club to police its own fans. Brian Wilson had also been arguing for Celtic fans to be allowed into our stadium in controlled numbers though we may not have had much appetite to do so after the league was lost.

It would not have stopped City Centre “celebrations”- they were inevitable and it would not have stopped what you heard in your area and I heard in mine. But it could have improved the situation. The lack of planning and genuine consultation between Police, Government and Ibrox was shocking and all too typical. “Gonnae No! Unless you really have to” is never a workable strategic plan but its what we got.

And don’t try and kid me we would not have been lording it in town and everywhere else if we had won our 10. Of course we would have behaved differently but the idea that we were all going to celebrate in our bubble at home if 10 was achieved, I just don’t believe.
