Improvements clear two weeks on from home Astra game

2373

It’s a bit frustrating being so close to qualification for the knock out stages last night before a momentary lapse cost us late in the game, but there were plenty of positives.  60 minutes into last month’s game at Celtic Park against Astra, taking four points from them looked very ambitious.  We played considerably better last night in the corresponding home game, or in the home game against Dinamo Zagreb.

Celtic are functioning better in midfield, while defensively they’re also looking solid.  We acknowledged some weeks ago that without Guidetti or Commons we would struggle to create and execute chances, and so it proved.

With Anthony Stokes also out the picture, Leigh Griffiths got the nod to replace Stefan Scepovic and instantly brought some drive to the forward line.  He was unfortunate that his ‘goal’ was disallowed for a debatable infringement, but he just brings the kind of purpose inside the box that we didn’t have until his arrival.

We’re now four games unbeaten in this competition, and we’re improving.  The evidence suggests that Salzburg have also improved since we took a point from them on match day one.  Last night’s result in Zagreb was impressive, but Salzburg will face their stiffest test of the group at Celtic Park.

Still fancy our chances of winning the group.

Is their a minutes silence at pittodrie today for rememberance sunday ?

This hasn’t always been the case has it ?

Was it at Falkirk a few years ago that the BBC played crowd noise from outside the ground over the live feed from the minutes silence in, I believe, an attempt to undermine the good name of our support and by extension club.

I never found out how that one played out but the media agenda that day was satisfied.

I think it was also around that time we start making the annual donation of £10k to the poppy appeal.

Absolutely….I respect your view….I just find it sad that some would allow the recent behaviour of the army under Thatcher etc to influence their respectful remembrance of the young men who gave their lives to satisfy politicians’ lust for glorious incompetence….

I am for jailing people responsible for deaths, the HSE does not count road accident deaths why ?

Many who die work as drivers.

  13. Sectarian scotland salivates at the thought of stitching up celtic supporters over the now somewhat tainted rememberemce day commemoration. You know I was going to say celebration ther because year by year that’s what it’s becoming.

I was out and about in Paisley yesterday and they had one if those mobile signs with a poppy on it. How very respectful.

For the record I always used to wear a poppy. I think it’s right we remember those who fought and died regardless of the politics.

But as the years go on poppy facism and the annual celebration at Ibrox has tainted my view.

  19. Some excellent posts about the poppy debate.

When I was growing up it was mainly to remember the fallen in the great war and the second world war. Most of the fallen were poor souls who had been conscripted or took the shilling.

Now it has taken on a totally different meaning.

It used to be, never wear a poppy until November, now half WITS like McCoist have his on from second week in October. Personally I find that offensive. Channel 4 yesterday interviewed Jamie Osborne in a horse box and had clearly put a poppy on him. That in my opinion is offensive too, who in their right mind would wear a poppy while mucking out. A Tory MP was on LBC radio last Monday in Oct, he was advertising the London Poppy launch appeal on the 30th Oct. Presenter asked him, why if the launch was on Thursday why was he wearing his poppy already, he replied I was on Sky on Sunday and didn’t have one on, I got a lot of abuse, so I thought I better put one on. That says it all to me about Poppy fascism.

We should never let the evil ones influence us , …on any subject…..we can resist them and respect the fallen…..

  22. Well the treble came up yesterday, and took in a really heavy wedge,so in a great mood.Still,Sutton is an arse.If he had uttered even the tiniest bit of reservation last season on the cup defeats ,terrible performances, then I could maybe take his words more seriously. But he is on RDs case at every turn.A mouthpiece for the anti Celtic MSM he is employed by.For gods sake open your eyes.

On the Poppy thing. It is not the fault of the millions who died in the two wars that Remembrabce Sunday has been hijacked by the war mongering, jingoistic, and PC brigade.

We should remember proudly the fallen, who gave everything for the generations to come, and not the paid thugs who wore, and disgraced the uniform after them.

Real heroes, every one of them.We as a support condemn Fascism .That is what the fallen in the two wars fought against.

  23. Poppy day is way way passed its sell by date.

UK is obsessed with war ,old wars and even older wars and new (illeagal ) wars.

Its a blatent attempt to brainwash a fresh generations of recruits for warmongering Westminsters next adventure.

  24. Somehow I never feel too confident when we head up to Furry Boot City. But hopefully we will put on a show despite a hard midweek game and all the travel.

Probably a few changes today – Guidetti is a certainty to start anyway.
