Improvements clear two weeks on from home Astra game

2373

It’s a bit frustrating being so close to qualification for the knock out stages last night before a momentary lapse cost us late in the game, but there were plenty of positives.  60 minutes into last month’s game at Celtic Park against Astra, taking four points from them looked very ambitious.  We played considerably better last night in the corresponding home game, or in the home game against Dinamo Zagreb.

Celtic are functioning better in midfield, while defensively they’re also looking solid.  We acknowledged some weeks ago that without Guidetti or Commons we would struggle to create and execute chances, and so it proved.

With Anthony Stokes also out the picture, Leigh Griffiths got the nod to replace Stefan Scepovic and instantly brought some drive to the forward line.  He was unfortunate that his ‘goal’ was disallowed for a debatable infringement, but he just brings the kind of purpose inside the box that we didn’t have until his arrival.

We’re now four games unbeaten in this competition, and we’re improving.  The evidence suggests that Salzburg have also improved since we took a point from them on match day one.  Last night’s result in Zagreb was impressive, but Salzburg will face their stiffest test of the group at Celtic Park.

Still fancy our chances of winning the group.

  5. Why would the ad need to be passed by ASA?

They only get involved when someone complains about an ad that has already appeared.

It would be the end of the advertising and marketing world if every ad had to be approved by ASA before appearing.

The only people who need to approve a newspaper ad are the editor and, if in doubt, his legal team.

Disappointed with the second half, last night, where we seem to wilt in Europe.

But wouldn’t snear at Romanian standards in comparison with Ross County or Inverness, the Europa Cup would see any Scottish sides pummelled other than Celtic. It makes the Salzburg home game, a night to look forward to.

If Celtic win then that’s progress, even though I’m not still not a big fan of the RD dimension especially in Europe.

However, last night’s draw away in Europe was not a struggle despite the BBC propaganda, and Celtic will reach the knockout stages, with a bit to spare.

Good to see you sticking by your man!

Personally I don’t see much progression at all

We certainly don’t look any fitter – in most games we seem to end up looking less fit that our opponents! Could it be that our tactic of running the ball everywhere instead of passing it more that 10 yards -takes far too much out of our players?

There is little evidence of the high pressing game and quick attacking that was promised

Last night there was again a lack of leadership on and off the park

We didn’t seem to know whether or not we should go for a second goal or defend the lead

The coach admitting as much after the game is not a great sign

He should know what he wants his team to do

His substitutions were a mixed bag -LG for SS was fine though perhaps 20 minutes too late

AM for MW was baffling and AM looked out of place in left midfield -especially when young McGregor was again a better candidate for being replaced

So for me the jury is still well out on RD

  9. Jobo, it would take me six months to grow a moustache, I was always jealous of my mates that had one in the early eighties, my ma said…don’t worry son you will still have hair on your head when theirs is long gone.

A wise woman was my ma…all the best with movember jobo.

  10. So McInnes and his CB who never heard anything, can say we are wrong to back our man? He’s thick enough for a huns manager.

  11. McKinnes, putting spin on what Scott Brown and Ronny said about Tonev, he sais Scott and Ronny said Tonev didnt say what he was accused off, that’s not true, Scott and Ronny said, that Tonev said he didn’t say those words, theirs a big difference.

“Cojones” is the word you seek. “Cajones” are crates or large boxes.

  13. Have to agree with the pundits on TV3 Celtic have shown vast improvement since the early days of Ronny’s tenure and are up a hundred per cent on the previous game against the Romanians. Celtic were in control last night and shut off all avenues to goal. It took a brilliant score from a Brazilian, who else, to finally breach Celtic’s rearguard. We should be through now on ten points and Leigh Griffith’s goal should have stood.

Ii thought Griffith’s was excellent when he came on too late in my opinion, he seems to have trimmed down considerably and looked fit and hungry. I have to disagree with some posters regarding our passing which I thought was impressive. Open to correction, but I think Salzburg only beat these guys by 1 – 0 so they were no walkover.

Salzburg are a reasonably solid side but Bayern or Barcelona they are not and Craig Gordon may have made some good saves in the previous match but we also opened them up on quite a number of occasions and could easily have won that game. Look forward to a good result in the return which should be a cracker then we can look forward to the next phase with goal machine Guidetti and James Forrest hopefully back fit again.

    Positive tone,fair cheered me up.

Concern is how does RD not anticipate what we all see and more worrying when his selection not working seems oblivious.Prompt action on 60 mins approx when 1 up would have secured our place.

Change liquidation is never used, to seldom used.

Never is factually incorrect, as some have used liquidation, and could give MSM something to deflect with.

    Bada

You’ve never been the same since Gip Rosetti then and Richard Harrow got killed off. I’ll miss it greatly as the top show of the day, and there’ll be a TV void. The flashbacks were a bit annoying, and the writers always struggle for an ‘ending’ but the return to tie it all up with Darmody was pretty good

I agree about Stephen Graham he was an outstanding Capone, and Gretchen (redhead) Mol was fantastic.
