Inconsistency costs Celtic cups

1483

This time last year there was far too much talk about trebles on these pages.  Celtic were flying in all three competitions, having established a lead in the league, and were heading for a League Cup semi-final against Falkirk.  Falkirk were beaten but it took a late Anthony Stokes goal to make the game safe for Celtic.  The script was written; a final against Kilmarnock, who always bottled it against Celtic in Glasgow, and a successful run in the Scottish Cup was all that stood between us and the fourth treble in our history.

I’ve lost count of how many such trebles we’ve look forward to.  Football has a way of promising lots but it takes an exceptionally good and consistent team to win both cup competitions, as well as the league.  More often than not, great and dominant teams don’t win the treble.

Celtic are a great and exciting team but they have not been nearly consistent enough to win the treble this season.  We have lost two from eight home games and two from seven away.  Good enough to win the league but not to win two cups.

I watched a bit of St Mirren at home to Ross County before heading to Celtic Park last weekend.  They were far from impressive but no less so than when we beat them by seven goals in the SPL four years ago.  The following week the same team knocked us out of the Scottish Cup.

Sunday is one of the biggest games currently on the roster.  Raise your game, Celtic.

The wee chap is under the weather and cannae make the games at the moment.

That is the highlight of my week, watching the wee man play, way above Celtic, I know you have the same thinking.

Yesterday my work colleague had the confidence to take the piss out of a Sevcovian. I didn’t want to join in the easy bashing. The guy really was brainwashed when the workmate was talking about the “adopted children”.

I didn’t realise what was going on, the bottom line after all the jibber jabber, I’m going to be washing my face 7 times from now on.

The adopted kids will be brought up in hatred, hopefully not.

Juve supposed to be getting a striker on loan from Lyon for the rest of season.

  5. There is another way to look at Murray v The Entire Serbian Nation. Until today, Murray has breezed through the field; so, this could be the tune-up he needs to find his place at the absolute apex of the tournament.

Mind you, Djokovič is a helluva player, and he & Andy have been sparring since they were youngsters and know each other’s game perfectly.

    It’ll be a good ‘un.

    Well done, Andy Murray.

  6. Well done andy murray, I think a tough 5 sets might help him for the final, he has had a very easy passage through the tournament

  8. Murray has moved up a gear again.I think we are seeing Federer on the way down now,he will probably give Wimbledon one last shot then retire.McEnroe said Federer is the best to have ever picked up a racket,a true champion.

  9. I used to play knockabout tennis games on a Saturday morning at the Marist college in Glasgow.

Great memories, good lhads those young Marists. Kind, with good craic.

In fact, it might have been The Marists who made a Marxist out of me……

Football is more than just skill it is more than just fitness its even more than just money to win a treble the whole squad must have a certain mental toughness. That toughness is hard to find in many teams as has been mentioned you can beat a team 7-0 which proves you have much more ability than them, then play the same team the following week and lose now everything says that should never happen but it does. The reason isnt soley that the team you have thrashed has improved that much in a week or even that you have lost form it is mentaly the poorer team wanted the win much more.I dont think all the transfer speculation will be doing our preparation for Sundays game much good and im not sure how mentaly tough the current Celtic squad are it is much tougher to be favourites and go out and win a match than it is to be the under dogs and pull of a shock cup football has shown us that over the years the latest being Bradford reaching the English league cup final.H.H.

It must be about time for Neil Lennon to give the same answers to the same questions about Gary Hooper for the fifth week in a row – and all so as the media can ignore his replies and set their own agenda.
