If you were lucky enough, like me, to enjoy a long Christmas holiday, I hope you had a good one. I’m sure few of us are delighted to be back at it today but there’s an indisputable mood on the blog for bringing in the New. A fresh start is needed and fortunately we’re at the start of the transfer window.
For Celtic most attention will be directed towards recruiting a striker who is capable of doing the business in the Champions League, not to overlook the important point of doing the business in Champions League qualifiers. 20-year-old Icelandic striker, Holmbert Fridjobsson, finally joins the club this month but although we’ll hopefully see plenty of the player this month he is surely considered ‘one for the future’.
One prolific striker does not solve all of Celtic’s issues, however. The club remains acutely dependent on Kris Commons’ creativity (as well as goal scoring), which will become increasingly less-effective as opponents setup to inhibit him. He needs a foil.
Since the annihilation in Barcelona Celtic have offered greater protection from midfield but with both full backs encouraged to overlap the midfield anchor role, previously occupied by Wanyama, becomes crucially important. It also offers support to the strategy of allowing Commons a free role as an attacking midfielder.
Over the break, Archie MacPherson, Scotland’s greatest ever broadcaster, wrote an article for Celtic Quick News comparing two of Scotland’s greatest ever managers. These debates are, of course, subjective, but the article provides a few objective points for consideration. Archie has a totally unique range to deal with this question and is in no doubt as to who the master was. Look out for the article next week, you’ll enjoy it – no guessing now.

Tet,
Good luck to Mrs Tet with the book, the poem you posted last year that your good lady wrote was first class. HH
===========
seconded,
well worth a repost.
I would definitely favour Cowiebhoy’s suggestion. Long may not want to come to Scotland but he is definitely worth a try. If he did cost us 3 million incl signing on fee, we would double our money within a year, if he were to move again. I reckon the lad would score for fun in the SPFL. The fact that he is from Tipperary is in no way influencing my opinion, ah well ok maybe a small bit.

Fair point!

I posted earlier that it was Shane Long for me, his contract run out in June.
But a poster said that Spurs wanted him, if that is the case, we have no chance, sadly.

Keep hearing this what injuries has he had/got ?
Shameless repost.
A poem by Mrs TET.
………………………………………….
Our Bobby came for Maggie, he offered her his hand.
She asked if he was consort, to the promised land ?
“Ah sure your passage will be safe, there’s plenty there to meet”
Maggie smiled and went with him, till she felt the heat!
“What is this place you take me, where is my throne and crown?
Our Bobby said to Maggie, “I think your going down !”
Ten brave men stood in judgement, deciding on her fate.
The eternal burning fires of hell, or heavens pearly gates.
The first to speak was Raymond, he looked her up and down
With Francis, Joe and Michael standing close, Maggie gave a frown.
While we hungered for justice, your judgement sealed our fate.
It’s the fires of hell for you, ye bitch not heavens pearly gates.
Then Thomas, Kevin, Kieran and Patsy all gave their thought
If Maggie should enter the gates of paradise or not
Martin smiled at Bobby they agreed her fate was sealed.
For crimes again the IRISH, compassion she would not yield.
Then St Peter gave a smile at Gods chosen men
For they were her jury, those bold courageous ten.
He asked what they decided, what is her fate, do tell ?
Bobby smiled and pushed her, into the fiery bowels of hell…….

Fletcher … we missed the boat on him
The good ship alfie is sailing out the harbour
Launch the lifeboat peter …. send a flare up ;)
Lennybhoy, was that a big hint earlier ?
Shane Long, out of contract in 6 months, so will get at that price in my view
Need to look at others in similar position (6 months left on contract) and see if similar could be done ? Aiden ?
This way not breaking salary structure, but operating smarter with our funds
And players do make a decent bonus from Champions League etc, going by accounts published ?
Incidentally I believe the type of deal ( don’t know figures) that attracted JL to us ?
Like most, just want to see us do better, build a team to win 4 or 5 nil, I love that type of game:-)
Hail Hail

Cowiebhoy:
Shane Long for 1.5?
I should coco.
6 more like and, without checking, I’d be surprised if he’s scored as man as 1 in 3…
I see the Celtic Trust, and Jeanette Findly and GB mob are still banging there drum in here hoping Celtic loos a game to justify there existence, to be a Tim and a Celtic supporter and wish Celtic all the best in every game is and will always will be what I am all about, it’s easy to see where I am coming from support the Tims and cheer them on to victory every where they go, I am happy with winning, I am happy being undefeated, I am happy with the money situation at my club money wise, I am happy with the leadership from PL, backed up with DD, I am happy with my coach, I am happy with the back room staff, I am happy with the players doing a great job every week this season, and results back that up, so I’m what the Huns in here call a happy clapper, now you say wooooo, woooo, I call people in here happy clappers, and I’m not a Hun, well that’s fine it’s not you I’m talking about, so don’t get yer knickers in a twist, it’s THEMS (Huns) that come in here and post I am after, this club Celtic our history and our great fans will always be there never to be taken for granted, PL. THE BOARD, AND THE PLAYERS, will still run onto that park every other home game, your team DIED, they are gone fineto, once AGAIN, I will say to all you lurking Huns, read this and weep, GIRUY.
Cowiebhoy
If we win 4 or 5 nil at celtic park. .. whos gonna take the flak from you
I guess its me… trying to jump the seats :)

Can’t click on them haha
Cowiebhoy
I would take Shane Long ahead of Stephen Fletcher anyday. Twice the player, and half the cost. No brainer!
TET
That poem is fantastic
Whats the name of that football team that play at Ibrox these days?
Fletcher would certainly do for me, can’t see it though .
Finboggasson , I think is destined for us.
Would love that

No. Not what the happy clappers call them. What they are documented as ?
Burghbhoy
latest I read is that his club are now asking for 8m+. Even his agent is getting pissed off with it.
Garrgillespieshamstring
Now there is an idea…nail, hit, head !
Mr Barraclough is widely respected and would be a great liaison officer, liaising between the board and the Green Brigade and between PL and the anti -board factions. He keeps himself fit and could slot in for Pukki when his form dips.
Motherwell, early ok tomorrow at home to ICT. Have lost just 1 in 12 at home to them. Recent form…….Murderwell won last 6 matches, ICT 1 point from 12.
Evens, Murderwell…..but, as usual, bookie will say odds have changed to 8/15. Do it every week. HH
West Wales Celt
Sorry got to disagree, WBA will not get £6m for a player with 6 months left on contract.
They were prepared to let go out on loan in the summer
Hail hail

Dinnae ken …I only know them as Sevco
