Ingredients of a viable football club

156

The main ingredients of a viable football club are a significant fan base, an appropriate stadium and TV deal. Celtic over achieve with the fan base, which offsets a deficient TV deal.

Without a large stadium, Celtic would survive in some form, but it wouldn’t be the club we know and love.  We should always look for ways to improve the fan experience at Celtic Park; it’s worth forgoing the odd player.

If you ever get the chance to visit Rome, go. Not for a football game, visit the city properly.  It’s breathtaking and cheaper than London.

One of the many highlights is the Pantheon. A church older than Christianity itself, it’s a testament to Roman engineering. Over 2000 years old, it has the world’s largest unsupported concrete ceiling. But the Romans didn’t use RAAC concrete, which would make any subsequent changes troublesome.

  1. Atalanta would be a good move for O’Riley

Not sure it’s preferable for us because Italian teams aren’t as flush as English clubs. No fee is mentioned. I’ve kinda been of the view we won’t get £25m for him but if there is Premier League interest then hopefully it drives up the price.

  2. I pulled James Forrest up last night for similar twaddle.Going a step further today, saying PL might be deliberately sabotaging the transfers because his son got canned/paid off/left.

Only yes men on his reply page.Feeds the ego.

Getting beyond a joke now regards a keeper.Idah,we know is problematic, but like Bernardo,no great rush, but I am nearly sure both will be signed.Just get a keeper signed.

  3. If VAR had to be involved in their penalty award, then how did it miss the hand ball by Saka, putting the ball onto Kane.England’s winning goal came from a shocking decision not to award a corner to the Dutch, when headed behind,in full view by Sones. The resultant kick out led to their winner.

On such horrendous decisions, finals are made.

Ian Wright making a total horses ass of himself.

  4. EPL clubs might bid more but Atalanta might make more sense for a smart young man with a plan like Matt. The manager is committed to a strategy of developing young players.

It might not be the worst for Celtic either – Atalanta sell their best young players for good money so a decent sell on fee might mean a the total transfer fee ends up being higher than a bigger initial fee to the EPL

  5. It is one of the benefits of the model there, and ours. Atalanta become a favored destination for players with big ambitions and a decent plan. Winning European trophies helps as well of course :)

It isn’t just expensive young players for Atalanta, they play the numbers game

They had 38 players out on loan last season!

  6. they cant sell o’riley before they buy someone, are yies no listening to james forrest.

to sell him would have the punters revolting.

55,000 season books sold out btw.

  7. How about keeping our best players unless they’re kicking the door down wanting a move? We are supposed to be a Champions League club and for that we need Champions League standard players. Too many on here seem keen to let our best go at the drop of a cheque.

  8. The only reason they come is they will be allowed to move on when a bigger league or wages are ofered

Seem is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. When you “seem” something, it can become anything you want.

You can “seem” a scenario where every reluctant conscript you curtail from advancing their wages and career will toddle on with their sterling performances for Celtic, as if nothing has changed.

Or they might “seem” to perform as enthusiastically as Dirk did & Benny is doing.

If you just ignore all possible downsides, then there are no downsides.

*you should have written this in UPPER CASE AS that point seems tae be missed, also how many out there left that misty eyed highland wee hoose mang the heather for the opportunity of the bigger penny, and yet still feel THE NEED to critcise lads like young morrison, vata and kelly for doing likewise.

Indeed , and its good to see you posting similar sentiment as mentioned on your blog.

We have given numerous examples, the question is who is going to be charged with actioning said improvements. And when.?

    Subject to :

Not providing materially different conditions to the deal they did with us .

That means that Rangers must not be the beneficiaries of ANY INCOME deriving from food and drink

  13. Celtic are certainly taking steps to improve the Dead Ringers fan experience at The Park

  14. We should always look for ways to improve the experience at Celtic Park. I absolutely agree and let’s start improving the experience by putting a stronger and better team on the pitch.

  15. Superbru semi-final round

My Superbru access is playing up at the moment so these figures have been supplied to me- hope they are accurate.

Joining our previous round winners, we have 2 predictors who got the exact scores right in both semi-finals. Disco Deek & roy croppie were the guys who got 6 points for that.

With no 3rd/4th place play off, unlike Copa America, there is only 3 points still up for grabs so the Leaderboard race is between:-

    1= 18 Yard Man & RP McMurphy- 48 pts

    3= One Malloy & Borgo67- 47 pts

    5 roy croppie- 46 pts

    6= Drew67 & Jobo Baldie- 45.5 pts

    8 hairlikespaghetti- 45 pts

There might still be an outside chance of 3rd place for eejits like myself on 44 pts but I suspect it will be one of the above. Can One Malloy win both Superbru comps this year? Has early leader Jobo Baldie dropped back into the pack to save himself for a late sprint? Or did he do all his best predictions when sunning himself in Spain?

The big question is who has the guts to predict a win for Lucky England against a better team in the final?

Anyone who has still to pay the £20 entry fee can find the details on the Banter section of Superbru, if your computer lets you access it?

Thanks to everyone who took part.

From our time at Hampden the cost was something of order of £800k to £1m.

    With strong conditions

Would the potential rental figure be made public?

With concerts there this summer causing destruction of grass, would the cost for reseeding in time for Trfc season be down to them?

Re: emigration from Scotland (and other parts of Europe) to Canada…..I believe that it was Canada that wanted to reduce European immigration. I got a job in the Arctic in 1976 with the Hudson’s Bay Company in the Arctic. The HBC had been hiring Scots for this kind of work since the early 1700’s.

I was already to go, when I got a telegram from the HBC telling me that Canada had shut the door. I phoned London right away and somehow got in. Best thing I ever did. I was really lucky. Out of the 60-odd hires, I was one of 5 or 6 who got in.

*thanks Ronnie I didnae know it was as far back as then the push back on Europeans had started, I would hazard a guess at northern Europeans as although their skill sets were highly valued, especially the brits and Germans, it was their control over the trade unions, specifically in the Crown Corporations that was causing the most concern.

But it was my own reply to SS when I mentioned the youngsters who search for better times away fae hame and the likes of us expats who as much as we still luv to sing about that ould hoose mang the heather and old Scots mother of mine when asked if they would ever go back, the response is usually “whit, are you aff yer heid” which prompted this response

We initially come here in the late 60s and it was a dream, good jobs were plentiful as well as affordable housing and of course the cost of living was amazing, for example, if I wanted a 24 of beer or 40oz of liquor, one hours labour paid for that whereas it was hauf a shift at hame.

Anyway, due to family and personal concerns we went back hame, but it still wisnae too bad there, you could chuck a job on the Monday and start a new one on the Tuesday, good days, and within 8 months we had bought a flat and I went tae Milan for the Big Cup Final

Now we both had family here but had settled intae life again back hame, nevertheless Mrs TT’s over there had grown, includin her mum and dad, so she had the inklin tae go back but as I said life was good enough as we had sold the flat for a town house up in the bonnie bonnie banks, so I made a compromise, 3 to 5 years should allow us to make enough money tae buy a bungalow up at Balloch Park, but as John Lennon once said “life is what happens to you while you’re busy making plans”, so here we are another wean plus 7 grandweans

But lookin back when we went up tae the Canada House the interviewer asked how much I was currently earning, at that time I was working on the M8 extension to Glasgow Airport and making the proverbial “big penny”, so when I told him he looked up and asked why did I want to go to Canada then, I was tempted tae say it was her no me but instead just replied that I felt that it would be a better life for my then 7 and 5 years old, so that might have swung it, although he followed that up with this curious response, “you’ll make twice the money in Canada but spend it 3 times faster.

Now no wantin to belabour this but 5 years later I’m hame for my 2nd holiday when I bumped intae an old school pal, a telephone engineer now a supervisor with Scottish Telecom, who was lookin at emigrating here, his mother’s youngest sister, around our age, was already living in Mississauga and had lined him up with a job at Northern Telecom, so I told him all the good things about that company, fast forward 15 months and again I’m back hame, another family emergency, when I look him up, knocked back, I am absolutely bewildered, a professional guy in his early 30’s and like me with a young family plus a job tae go too, which should have ticked all the boxes.

Good evening all. I hope you are all hale and hearty. And if not, why not?🤔

  23. who could project manage the jobs at celtic park ?

    3 outstanding candidates

Tom Grant – his granda built the grant stand .

or the sevco guy in saudia.

or me, i aint doing anything.

  24. I’m sure our financial guys will know how to minimse it and spend on areas within the first team squad and club as required, 9 days until we play in the US , Scott Bain is our number 1 and it would seem Siegrist did not have his contract ripped up and played yesterday. Frightening.

  25. So the Huns have broken their silence.

Still no news on what the problems is.

Still no estimated date to return to Ibrox.

All is not well, at all.
