Ingredients of a viable football club

156

The main ingredients of a viable football club are a significant fan base, an appropriate stadium and TV deal. Celtic over achieve with the fan base, which offsets a deficient TV deal.

Without a large stadium, Celtic would survive in some form, but it wouldn’t be the club we know and love.  We should always look for ways to improve the fan experience at Celtic Park; it’s worth forgoing the odd player.

If you ever get the chance to visit Rome, go. Not for a football game, visit the city properly.  It’s breathtaking and cheaper than London.

One of the many highlights is the Pantheon. A church older than Christianity itself, it’s a testament to Roman engineering. Over 2000 years old, it has the world’s largest unsupported concrete ceiling. But the Romans didn’t use RAAC concrete, which would make any subsequent changes troublesome.

  1. Ha!

I’d vote for Robert Anthony De Niro. Except I can’t vote as I refuse to be a citizen.

  2. Biden Just Confuse Zelensky ……

  3. BBC Scotland will provide live television coverage of Kilmarnock v Cercle Bruges on Thursday 25 July, with a 19:30 BST kick-off.

The Belgians visit Rugby Park for the first leg in the second round of Europa League qualifying.

The Ayrshire side, who finished fourth in the Scottish Premiership last season, are playing their first European tie since 2019.

It is only a fourth European outing for Cercle Bruges, who were last involved in 2011, getting as far as the Europa League third qualifying round.

The return leg takes place seven days later, with Kilmarnock receiving 2500 away tickets.

  4. SO, FOR THOSE WHO LIKE TO WORRY ABOUT TOMORROW, NEXT SEASON, AND THE FUTURE,

WE NEED TO BE IN A PLAY OFF ROUND AGAIN NEXT SEASON FOR CL.

unless some other european level event take a country out of the reckoning.

i seriously wish all scotlands teams to get through the qualifiers, exceot 1 maybe.

  8. BOURNESOUPRECIPE @ 10:31 AM,

“The one and only time that Celtic side will ever line up together was last night.

If we don’t sign before the USA tour we’ll be deep in transfer wall punchers territory. Targets in any field should be hittable when they are set, the re selection of Ben Siegrist from nowhere last night, might suggest we won’t even have Joe Hart’s replacement on view any time soon? BR can poo poo recruitment and laugh it off saying ‘patience’ because he’s got his contract and is happy to work in the ‘failed transfer strategy’ and all its budget brings, or doesn’t. Was it irony when he said we could have signed ‘nine’ by now.?

He did the same last year when he said Mark’s (Lawwell) and his team had done a great job gathering talent for Parkhead. He then sifted backwards shuffled the pack and discarded two relatively expensive CB’s, and even found the best winger at the club in James Forrest. You can’t describe the transfer system as failed when you’ve unprecedented wealth in a bank account, and in the last four years penned contracts for CCV Johnston Jota Hatate Kyogo or O’Riley. We might even sell ‘a Celtic dud’ or a massive profit, who knows.

A sunk cost fallacy can’t be declared yet, it’s what happens next in the remarkable Celtic story.

    As ever

    HH

Let me clarify, I’ve got no issue with preseason friendlies, nor the team that took the field, we had the spectrum of Celtica in that line up.

Was great to see – of course many of the “real” Celtic fans were watching Engerland.

No wall punching here, there might be the odd tub that gets thumped…

You can here them now in D.C. Big Ben Celtic’s No1, Big Ben Celtic’s number one…

BTW: Did you like my Browny;)

    Hail Hail

  9. BOURNESOUPRECIPE @ 10:31 AM,

    Apologies, premature post commenting…

The failure of the transfer window was of course nought to do with the players you mention, that was a totally different recruitment set up and totally different personnel involved…

    The pre-Lawwellite II period.

When Brendan makes all the right noises, as he did on his return, on the basis no doubt of promises given, he’s a hypocrite if desenting he’s not a team player…

Scotlands got a huge background on this developed from their MSM…

Nice to see Brendan Rodgers showing the executive how to deal with agents and their pliable players.

Haksabanovic and Daniel Kelly are guys we can live without

    Hail Hail

  10. Turkeybhoy

It would be really bad for them if standard liege did not think rangers were a different level.

Standard were 10th in Belgium last season. 6 places behind the team who will play Killie in 2 weeks time.

    Re James Forrest.

Don’t wast your breath or energy. He is an uninformed sad and rather desperate fellow. As for his attempt at a blog. It reflects the above imo.

  11. Talk about Queens Park and R2ngers sharing Hampden.

    I’ve a solution for the SFA…

    Merge the clubs…

    Queens Park – Amateurs

    Queens Park – Professionals

    Rangers M1

    Rangers Mk2

Call them Queens Park Rangers MkII

You could run them from Hampden with all the money ploughed in not been a conflict of interest as the SFA could be an official shareholder

Then like back in the day with Queens Park, they could have the team represent the national team.

Save money on running two squads and all the money generated from the NT could go into the Club coffers…

Of course they may have to return to their WASP recruitment policy (Scottish variety) and adopt the Union Flag and GStK as a national anthem again…

Good day for just such an announcement though – marching with a spring in their step…

    Hail Hail

  12. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Good morning CQN ….

Based on absolutely nothing, I’ve got a feeling we’ll complete a couple of signings in the next week.

If the report about Daniel Kelly being excluded from first team preseason are true?

With some regret, I’m for it.

    Only committed players need apply.

  13. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Signing effective players becoming more difficult.

Well just need to RAAC our brains as best os we can to find the right ones, then steel ourselves for drawn out negotiations.

  14. We must cement our position at the top this season , steal a march on signings , with no sinking costs into YouTube fallacy players …😉😜

  15. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

And when we get signings we must structure payments accordingly and make sure contracts are watertight.

Otherwise we won’t have a stand to leg on.

    This is all too much.

BRRB – could you porous a large one?

  16. Don’t think the Pantheon project is going to help the R2ngers, unless that particular part of Rome was built in a day…

“We should always look for ways to improve the fan experience at Celtic Park; it’s worth forgoing the odd player.

Information we could have done with at the beginning of January 2023 – forgoing the very odd recruitment that year would have saved us 30 mn and not make one iota of difference to the team.

If you ever get the chance to visit Rome, go. Not for a football game, visit the city properly. It’s breathtaking and cheaper than London.

Well not for me it ain’t, which unfortunately means I’ve been in London plenty and never been to Rome

Not a bucket list guy but if I don’t go before I pop my clogs it will be to my eternal shame…

    Hail Hail

There’s only one club in Scotland that would sell seats, that they knew well in advance weren’t available. Already conjoined to the SFA the solution to a yet untold story of unavailability or for how long, was as straight forward as being awarded a spare licence. Pretending to have won another Sevco closed season victory SMSM already culpable for Sevco’s existence, have a duty to permeate a Rangers having previously helped in the demise of the original existence. Celtic paid top dollar ( see Fergus McCann ) for the use of the out dated stadium, where you can see zilch from either end, so the Sevco supporters at least have the SFA to thank for that.

It’s the good folk in Kings Park and surrounding that’ll pay the real price.

  18. bournesouprecipe on

That awkward moment when the only Celtic news is from somebody called Fabrizio Romano.

  19. More like Ibrox News on here, rather than all things Celtic,as for Daniel Kelly tear up his contract, really what has he achieved?
