Intelligent play, Directors’ box hospitality competition

377

Champions League match day six was a dead rubber, I wasn’t at the game only watched on TV, but two days on I’m still full of the emotional thrill of the occasion.  With that in mind, the thought that today will be the players final training session before a league game tomorrow illustrates the challenge for Brendan Rodgers.

The players put everything into the game in Manchester, they were visibly flagging near the end.  They will also have shared the high of the occasion.  Bringing that all together to face a team who have been planning nothing but how to frustrate a potentially lethargic and distracted Celtic for a week and you have a game punters would generally avoid backing the favourites in.

News that James Forrest’s hamstring isn’t causing too much concern is welcome.  We’ve all been there.  You feel the twinge but it’s not enough to stop you, so you carry on.  James has more experience of injury than most footballers, as a consequence it looks like he left the field before a “tightness” became an injury.  He was a loss to the game but rather that than a loss to the season.  This counts as very intelligent play.

I’d be reluctant to press James into action tomorrow, especially as it gives Gary Mackay-Steven an opportunity to revisit Firhill, where he scored 37 seconds into his Celtic debut.

Directors’ Box hospitality auction ending soon!

At around 12:18 this afternoon our Directors’ Box hospitality auction in aid or Mary’s Meals, courtesy of Intelligent Car Leasing ends.  Money raised will go towards our seventh school kitchen across Malawi and Liberia – just incredible.

At the Celtic-Dundee game on 17 December, you can win:

2 seats in the directors’ box

Champagne reception
5 course meal in the Walfrid Suite
Fully expenses bar (pre and post-match)
Half time snacks and refreshments
Car Parking
And a match programme

This is a genuine experience of a lifetime, which you can bid for here on ebay – for another few minutes only.

Many thanks to Intelligent Car Leasing for making it possible.

  1. Surely to God BBC Scotland can get someone other than the emptyheaded Gordon Smith to comment on such a sensitive and serious matter as child abuse. It was cringe worthy listening to him being interviewed there.

you can’t say fairer than that. Good on you for raising with Paul67 and good on Paul67 for agreeing and the opportunity for all to get the chance.

Defo the way to go, although having being a part of charity things in the past I get the auction\raffle thing and realise it is so much easier to administer and organise an auction than a raffle.

  11. I had a good chat with big Rambo this afternoon. Some very interesting stuff to come out on this interview which will be posted tomorrow – CQN Fives got it the way.

Frank McGarvey told us that Charlie Nicholas left Celtic for Arsenal and increased his wages by a multiple of 23.

I asked Rambo how much more he got through his moves ( he never wanted to leave Celtic but is glad that he did due to the career he had after being a Celt).

Anyway Celtic to Villa -2.5 x his Celtic pay and Villa to Bayern Munich 10 times his Villa wages.

Interesting advice for Paddy Roberts too.

  12. Getting with the christmas spirit and in goodwill to all men, I am dropping the SACK THE BOARD add of for a wee while , well till the next time they do something i really dont like.

right now i think they are getting much more right that wrong, there i said it.

    WC,

I find it hard to belive Charlie got 23 x his celtic wages at arsenal.

Have i read that wrong ?

Its 1983, say Charlie is on £200 a week at celtic park, Arsenal then paying him £4,600.

I doubt it was such a gap. What we dont know is what the club offered him to stay.

Excellent piece by James Forrest in the Celtic Blog re news(?)papers / news(?)organiasations smearing the Celtic support.

Have long felt that we sgould establish an Anti Defamation League in situations when the club cannot, or will not, respond. HH

I don’t know what Nicholas earned at Arsenal, but he was reportedly the best-paid player in the country when he joined. At Celtic,he’d have been on the original contract he signed at 17.

I seem to recall Celtic offered him £40k pa to sign.

We never were very good at the money thing. Refused to meet Judas’ demands and two years agreed a deal to bring him back for £1.2m more than we sold him for. As an example.

  15. TONYDONNELLY67 on 8TH DECEMBER 2016 4:22 PM

Disagree with you on this one. You have frequently posted about cliques bemoaning certain posters. By restricting something like the two seats in the Directors Box to an auction surely you are offering it to a clique, one that consists of ones that have a few Bob?

Not sure of your access to money, not that it is relevant but if you can bid £580 for a prize fair play to you. I’m not in a position to do so.

We are, as you know a Club that prides ourselves in being open to all. A much fairer way would be to raffle a prize for £5 or £10, many more people would have a chance of winning. I accept there is no guarantee but most probably it would raise more than £580.

Just want to emphasise I ain’t having a pop at you per say, just putting my point across.

big game tomorrow as the rest of the season reality hits us all – players could be down physically and mentally – after euro game never great – friday game never great – game against pt never great . This could set the tone for the rest of the season. Is tomorrow the first prep for next year’s euro quals and a step on the way to a treble.

Was at the disability assessment gestational, guy has been blind from birth and he told me on the way back that it had been a rescheduled appointment.

He had phoned up to say couldn’t make the first one because his guide do was ill and he had to take it too the vet, he asked them if he needed to contact DWP to explain his non attendance, they said no they would do that for him.

Unfortunately his companion of 8 years passed away, and guess what they forgot to pass on details and they stopped his money for 5 effing weeks, this guy lives alone with no family to speak off.

I’m seething just reading that. If we are a civilized society we must look after people like that. It defines who we are.

with over 5 million people claiming benefits in the uk it is little wonder staff in the various offices make mistakes. Sounds like a staff member didn’t do what they promised – however this mistake has a devastating affect on the chap you mentioned.

I know that benefit offices are also encouraged to impose immediate sanctions when claimants don’t make interviews etc.

A sad state of affairs indeed.
