Inter Milan as Stein’s 50th looms

819

The last two teams out of the pots for today’s Europa League draw left to former European Champions.  Celtic will face Inter Milan, who they have met twice before in European competition.  The teams faced in the European Cup Final in 1967, when Celtic won the tournament, and again in the European Cup Semi-final in 1972, when Inter progressed on penalties after two 0-0 draws.

It’s not the draw I would have handpicked but it’s a great draw from many perspectives.  Inter will bring genuinely tier-one talent to Celtic Park, and provide Ronny Deila and the squad with an invaluable chance to test their progress.

The games will take place a few weeks before the 50th anniversary of Jock Stein becoming Celtic manager and set his team on the road to dismantling La Grande Inter.  History is made of great stories and no sporting event in history has been so infused by story telling than the first meeting between these clubs.

If all these stories teach us anything it’s to fear no one.  Bring it on.

Among many great features, we have an interview with Dixie Deans in the 2015 CQN Annual, see above, who among many things, discusses “that penalty”.  Still time to order yours for Christmas.

You can also order the CQN Annual and DVD bundle here. It’s a great offer, check it out – oh, and there’s tons of photos, fresh stories and comment on the first time Inter faced the green and white hoops.

    Awe Naw,

Whatever the SFA are up to with their “complaint”, it is not due to a post puberty event.

I seem to recall, in the long ago days of Admin, that the path to hun recovery was mapped out.

    Step 1.

    1873 liquidated with the debts.

    Step 2

Seperate club from company and transfer the football bits.

This was to allow those , particularly Ticketus, to get their money back and sanitize the business.

    Collapse Sevco.

    Step 3

Re inject Rangersness to a third incarnation, with Real Rangurz men.

All the while, maintaining the Big Lie.

Thre Steps to Hell, as Eddie Cochrane might have sung, if he was still around.

The SFA are issuing Ashley with his Get Out of Jail card.

    Good Post!

Living in Germany, what would be my best options for a ticket for the home game against Inter? Would like to get the chance to meet CQNrs whose posts I have very much enjoyed on here!

    HH Gerry

sorry to butt into your post but the most concrete way to get a ticket is to buy one of the half season books on offer at the minute and all season ticket holders are entitled to apply for their seat

the best way to go if financially possible, then we can all meet up as EC67 says and I acn party on the boat home

sounds like a plan to me

    —————-

Agree wholeheartedly. The political nastiness and snide interchange chased me away from the blog, other than occasionally to read Paul’s leader.

I visited the blog on a work break to read about our fantastic Euro draw. Instead there are mutual insults over politics from Tims barely hiding their contempt for each other. Put a sock in it would you please.

    Aff oot.”

I’ll say the same as I did to your one-eyed friend hebcelt.

There were several posts of a pro-YES or anti-NO outlook before I made my contribution.

However, both yourself and hebcelt cited me as having started the politics stuff.

It seems there is opposition to people countering YES politics from some.

I would be happy to see the politics stuff much reduced but I make no apology for my own post in response to earlier contributors that you both failed to call out.

Disappointed, I mean, relieved that your link was an alternative to BSRs most recent post rather than his Gazebo one from a little earlier ;-)

  14. Some posters criticising Craig Gordon at St Mirren goal. Looked at replay several times. The ball was 30 feet in the air, and he hadn’t a snowballs chance of cutting it out. Highlight of Sportscene was young Tony Dingwall of Ross County. What a performance, goals with either foot. Worth following up.

Wee double tonight Everton win. Inter draw. Added interest on tv watch.

    HH

  15. another plus for the draw for me is the chance to view a european night from my usual seat in the north stand upper (412) I know watching Celtic is a privilege from anywhere in the stadium but I have missed European nights from 412 just above the green brigade and the floor feeling like its jumping and doing the huddle and standing up for the champions, and Glasgows green and white doing their best on the pitch ……. is it Feb yet?

  16. So if Coisty accepts £400,000k net, with the club paying the tax, and they then go into administration the tax doesn’t get paid, is that right?

  17. From Phil’s latest post …

There are two possible scenarios if Big Mike does walking away :

o Buy a struggling outfit and rename it as some kind of Rangers

o Wait till RIFC/TRFC collapses in liquidation and then snap up the major assets, Ibrox and the world famous Albion carpark

Both these plays involve the cooperation of an understanding governing body

Any of our resident ‘legal eagles’ think that these are realistic options and where would that leave Res12 ?

My Gawd it’s started already. Maybe we’re only a few games away from chanting Mike Ashley’s name from the Celtic Park stands, like we did for Craigie boy.

  24. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

    Awe Naw,

Perhaps, but the scenario I wrote about was the one that was suggested at the beginning, perhaps on RTC.

I don’t think for one minute that the huns and Ashley are being hauled over the coals.

I do think that this is choreographed, with MA’s approval.

Too much time has passed between Llambias turning up and the compliance note being issued.

Waiting for the rascals to reply to their letter doesn’t cut it.

They can serve a player within days of an alleged offence.

It is more likely to be as I suggested.

IF, the SFA once again roll over and sanction dual interest, then they really are leaving themselves wide open.

    Caveat.

They always have their ” discretionary powers”, of course.

    This is merely my opinion.

  25. The ticket office must be delighted with this draw. Just off the website to see about a half season ticket and there appears to be relatively few available. I’ve a feeling the attendance for the match on the 27th Dec will be over the 50K mark.

  26. Alasdair MacLean on

    bigshuggy,

If you look at young Tony Dingwall’s first goal, he hits the first shot with one foot, the keeper saves and he hits the second shot which goes in with his other foot.

A cracking young guy with a great personal attitude by the way.

  27. Eurochamps67
