Inter trepidation, Packy, Tommy, Joe & Patricia

809

Inter have hit a bit of form recently but comments coming out of Milan indicate their visit to Celtic Park is viewed with some trepidation.  The stadium’s Champions League reputation remains fresh in the memory, even if the team has been transformed since the last major victory over a truly top team two years ago.

A number of those who will play for Celtic on Thursday will have only seen those great European nights on television.  Playing in front of 60,000 Celtic fans will be a new experience.  Transforming this support into an energising force is our job.  Inter’s first objective will be to frustrate and quieten the crowd.  My hunch is that this will be difficult.

We have the line-up confirmed for the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner, which is at the Kerrydale Suite on Friday 13 March.  Topping the bill for the Q&A is Packy Bonnar, Jock Stein’s last signing, who made his debut on St Patrick’s Day 1979.

Packy’s Celtic and Ireland team-mate, Tommy Coyne, will also be taking part.  Tommy had an incredible career and speaks intelligently on football, and life in general.  We’re also delighted to have Joe Miller.  Joe played in the same Celtic team as Packy and Tommy.  Part of our historic Centenary Team, he also scored that unforgettable Scottish Cup Final winner.  More recently Joe formed the Association of Former Celtic Players.

To mark the 50th anniversary of Jock Stein’s first game as Celtic manager, which takes place that week, we also have Jock’s personal friend and biographer, Archie Macpherson will speak about the great man.  If you’ve ever needed inspiration…..

I’m also delighted to confirm we have Celtic’s First Lady of Song, Patricia Ferns, who is making the journey over from Ireland for our night.

I don’t listen for them but I didn’t hear any sectarian singing from our supporters during that crap game. As for the GB banner, people are desperate to blame our club for something.

The sooner the CQN loyal forget about their OF obsession the better. The OF is badly out of date.

By God today was a struggle and having to take an after school hockey session didnae help!! :-)

  6. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

I’m just surprised they have made the decision on the singing banned songs so quickly. Aren’t they still investigating this from the Rangers v Kilmarnock game in February 2012?

  8. In all seriousness how can they not be held accountable for what they spouted at Hampden?

We all heard it, over and over again.

  9. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

The verdict on their anthems at Hampden, actually goes a bit deeper.

The Huns had been stymied recently and (in relative terms) become a little more acceptable.

Such was their dissatisfaction with their club they had decided to stick two fingers up to decency. Their mindset was hostility to all, the present board in particular.

They will see the lack of punishment as a “go”.

They have received a tacit endorsement today.

Say what you like they learn, watch them go from here on in.

    These particular flies learn.

In 1972 they learnt how hostility, fear and intimidation works. They got on the pitch and intimidated Moscow’s players. They were allowed to retain that ill-gotten trophy, despite the international furore.

They learnt from that and repeated the trick against Motherwell when they stopped the 10-in-a-row.

Watch and listen to their “musical traditions” re-emerge .

Even the Rangers fans had stopped being up to their knees in fenian blood.

Were the rights of Scottish Roman Catholics changed in 2012 because of Sevco?

  11. HT

Dice are loaded in Scotland; not because if bias but because of the issue the authorities have to contain wrt the hun.

    Pragmatism not racism I think

  12. Fell oot with the missus ….again.

Every year I give up sweets/cakes/biscuits for Lent, she says there’s cheesecake in the

fridge for you…..”Oh”? I better have that before Wednesday”

“Yir no even a practising Catholic”she says hurtfully ….even more hurtfully “You should

    give up beer for Lent”

Fekn ragin…..I’m glad I never took her oot for St Valentines day.:O(

  13. No part of any of the Rangers enterprises should weaken your love of Celtic.

Plenty of ex-players I have spoken to – legends – have a different view to most on here myself included.

Tell Bertie Auld he is wrong if you like.

These guys look at things differently from the supporters as their Celtic experience is different to ours. They were hungry for Rangers – they wanted the scalp.

Celtic careers could be defined by performances against Rangers. Big Yogi and Willie Wallace enjoyed scoring against them often. Others, for example Joe McBride were not so fortunate.

As ex-players they relate to the current Celts in certain ways and one is in the teams Ronny’s teams will play.

So if their opinion is different to ours it is because of perspective more than anything else. They all know Rangers died but want Celtic to beat whatever Rangers we are obliged to play.

Joe Miller is a fine Celt in my opinion.

I was not a great fan of Paddy as a player and when I heard him on the radio pick his best ever team he was in my opinion light on Celts. I am sure my opinion will change after hearing him speak at CQN 11.

To abuse CQN guests is just plain bad manners. And to let any version of Rangers get in the way of your own relationship with our club is just daft.

Celtic first – Celtic last – Celtic overall.

Oh and more prominent guests will be at CQN 11 – quite a gathering is planned. And can that girl sing!

  14. Just watching Mountain programme on BBC1 and it turns out that the nice Italian Restaurant on the right hand side as you travel north opposite the turn of to the ski road is a Timmy shop.

Celtic crest on the wall in the kitchen. I presume Scots /Italian family business.

That’ll be them on the FF banned list then.

  15. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Glass two thirds full, and no outcome on the sectarian singing investigation after the behind closed doors game in Milan when they played them in the Champions League years ago.

  16. big cup winners…what you say is so true…they should have stopped it now, the victim head is on with thems, and trust me, before this season is over, they will riot in Edinburgh….im certain of it…

Seems odd to me as well, when a simple deletion would avoid the unnecessary comments and the follow up comments and waste of time.

  20. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Glass two thirds full, the 100 hundred or so fans they had at the game against Inter had all travelled as part of the official party. They had a list of everyone who was there as a fan.

I wonder if any of the three bears were there.

Bit of the old cog diss from your wife there.

In general, I find that female partners go out of their way to destroy your post bevvy weekend feel good factor.

Best solution is to bring them with you!

  22. the BBC is going huge on English fitba right now. The budget must be enormous.

Why aren’t our elected politicians, Football associations (Huns and idiots), clubs and press going nuts about this.

The only games BBC Scotland has enough cash to rent a couple of camcorders for are Sevco games.

    Is no one else bothered?
