International retirement would be no hardship

197

The largest impediment to Celtic building up a sustainable run of form is the incessant games players are faced with.  They will have competed in 14 European games by mid-December, with only Newco in Scotland doing anything similar.  Uniquely here for Celtic players, the demands of international football mean that these breaks are often more onerous, not less – ask Tom Rogic.

Scott Brown has retired from the international game but the rest of the first choice regulars are busy every international break. Of the more fringe players, Jozo Simunovic’s vacillations between Croatia and Bosnia have left him with time to rest those knees, while Scott Sinclair only represented England at youth level.

I’m not sure what work Leigh Griffiths needs to do on his fitness but hard training sessions are not permitted during spells when the team is playing seven or eight games per month.  Dropping out of the Scotland setup will allow Leigh a full week of endurance and cardio work, his first since preseason, instead of being untaxed as a squad player for Alex McLeish’s Scotland side.

Leigh has nothing to prove at international level but at 28, he knows the most important thing in his professional life is to continue scoring goals for Celtic.  International retirement would be no hardship.

You ask what would the statement consist of, you are putting me on , surely. As the song says'”if you know the history” and all that. For goodness sake, have you not noticed the decades, almost centuries now, of constant put downs, constantly being picked on, constantly being cheated. Who does the entire Scottish establishment favour, eh? Anyone other than Celtic, as plain as the nose on your face.

And of course, let’s not forget the hun, all the cheating, tax dodging, nothing being done to them whne they millions is tax. And lest we forget, whenever huns break the law, wrecking our toilets, injuring a lines man, alll that conveneintly brushed under the carpet, Interesting, really intersting.

I do hate cliches but wake up and smell the coffee, for goodnes sake man.

I most certainly DO “know the history”.

The cheating/bias/whatever you want to call it, has been going on forever. I agree. That’s because we are not the establishment club….nor will we ever be, in my lifetime. “They” get preferential treatment, and always will from their klan in power.

So, I have no need to smell the coffee.

Life is not fair – never has been. I like your idealism – hell, I’ve been described as an idealist myself. But I’m also a REALIST.

Celtic are NEVER going to withdraw all their players from Scotland duty.

Anyway, chauffeur duty beckons for about 20 mins. Back then.

  6. SMSM mixing the Celtic v Scotland agenda as hard as they can go, whilst telling Celtic fans our manager is for the off, which manager? any manager, unless its Ronny Deila.

It would suit the SFA ( and the most of Scotland ) perfectly if Celtic players like James Forrest, Keiran Tierney or Callum MacGregor followed suit, and withdrew from the Scotland squad because it complies nicely with the general ‘anybody but Celtic’ mantra.

Holders of the League Cup unbeaten at Hampden for years banished to Murrayfield without balance, who’s have thunk it? The Scotland manager is a hand selected card carrying proven tax evading cheat , overlooked in favour of a dreadful managerial career that included being chased from Birmingham twice and even out of darkest Nottingham.

Scottish born footballers are to deny themselves the chance to represent their country of birth because they play for Celtic the main victims of cheating and SFA bias which includes continually employing said cheats?

Has Scotland evolved from booing Jimmy Johnstone or dropping Kenny Dalglish? – you’d like to think so, and Celtic players with a different international stance to Leigh Griffiths ( God bless him) should be given every encouragement for playing for Scotland.

We will not be treated differently CSC

Reducing Rangers (IL) 10 points form 2004/05 season as they had failed to pay the correct PAYE:

    04/05 Finished 1st – w/Deduction 2nd

    05/06 Finished 3rd ” 3rd

    06/07 ” 2nd ” 2nd

    07/08 ” 2nd ” 2nd

    08/09 ” 1st ” 2nd

    09/10 ” 1st ” 2nd

    10/11 ” 1st ” 2nd

    11/12 ” 2nd ” 2nd

I accept no responsibility for these figures being wrong por cierto.

  8. Buthcher has just said on Radio 5 that Celtic fans were banned from Ibrox for wrecking the stadium in a previous game, the ban was when John Collins scored, wonder what he think of the Manchester riots?

  9. Greeninbingleyinoslo.

    well said, 100% agree

    Call Me Gerry

I do not doubt your credentials, but being a realist, come on,eh.

So what do you propose, more of “roll over litttle Timmy” do you? If Celtic made a stance here and now and withdrew it’s players from the national team and stating loudly why, would not the world media pick this up, and at worst cause some embarrassment to the establishment, and at best get FIFA involved so that a proper enquiry is made into the wrong doings which have existed now for more than a century.

We cannot sit back and be bullied, punch the bully on the nose and see waht happens.

Before I die, I would love Celtic playing in a league where every team is fully respected and given equal opportunity to succeed.

It really is only in Scotland that this crap is tolerated. Lets you see what a shitty , bigotted little hole Scotland has become.Hun players not allowed to make the sign of the cross, what’s that all about I ask.

    Drive safe.

  10. AULDHEID @ 4:16 PM,

Hiya, Hope all is good with you and yours, I’ve not been posting much but have been lurking, so I have kept abreast of the Great work you are doing.

I’m working on a couple of things at the moment (totally not football related) that requires what little concentration I have (and after the transfer debacle I was loosing the will to live;)) so not being commenting.

Found this though if it’s any help…

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Administration_(British_football)

“Following the adoption of a points sanction in the English Football League, a similar rule was proposed for adoption by the Scottish Premier League (SPL) in December 2003.[124] It was announced in January 2004 that SPL clubs going into administration in the 2004–05 season would be subject to a 10-point deduction and be prevented from signing new players.”

So carry on the Great work I’m sure a huge swathe of support you have reads and doesn’t comment…

…hopefully I’ll be sticking my eclectic tuppence worth in…

…in the meantime, as always, keep on keeping on.

  11. The reason there is an establishment club is because we have a Scottish establishment that is basically doing the bidding, gleefully i may add, of the British establishment. Ditch the Brits and the hunnish Scots are doomed imho.

    Hail Hail

  14. Personally, I want as many Celtic players as possible playing for my 2nd favourite TEAM and so I’m disappointed that Leigh has had to pull out, although there’s now the obvious (probable) benefit for my 1st favourite team.

Between now and Thursday, past experience suggests that somewhere around 70% of folk who comment on the Scotland international team will opine that they’d prefer if Celtic withdrew players, that Celtic players withdrew themselves, etc etc. I have no problem with anyone expressing that wish. But at the same time, when the starting 11 gets announced please don’t come on and complain that CalMac or Wee Jamsie isn’t in the starting line up (if that proves to be the case).

Alex McLeish would have been just about my last choice as Scotland manager. But the fact that he’s there doesn’t stop me supporting the team. A bit similar to the suggestion the other day that if and when Brendan decides to leave we might get Davie Moyes as a replacement. I’d be far from happy with such news but can’t imagine that it’d stop me supporting Celtic.

Apologies for the mini rant. ‘Mon the Scotland – intae thae Israelis!

  15. I can confirm that Call Me Gerry did indeed jump the queue for the train to Estadio Nacional in May Last year ?

Fine young man, and a pleasure to meet with him and share the worlds best train journey on that day.

And talking of Israelis…what exactly is Nir Biton’s injury problem? I think we have missed the big man at times…get well soon.

I would have no problem supporting Celtic if Davie Moyes became our manager. My support for Scotland stopped, the day we appointed EBT cheat McLeish. Have no time for McFadden or Grant either. Three fuds in charge of the country of my birth.

    No thanks.

Like yourself, both my parents were born (and bred) in Ireland (Monaghan). They came separately to Glasgow late 50’s – met, married, and brought up their family in Glasgow.

During my upbringing we regularly spent the Glasgow Fair on holiday back “home” in Ireland, visiting family.

We are all proud of our Irish heritage. I, personally, consider myself Scottish with proud Irish roots. I will never let anyone, be it in the SFA, media or whatever else, stop me from supporting my club of choice or my country of choice.

    KINGLuBO

I agree entirely with what you both have said, with regards to the injustices we’ve suffered as a club and as supporters. I have no desire to “roll over” or “sit at the back of the bus”. I differ on what EXACTLY we can/should do about it.

It’s all well and good people coming on here and saying we should get out of this corrupt league. But go where exactly? It ain’t an option!!

As far as taking ALL our players out of the Scotland squad – it’s a mighty big assumption that the players would want the club to ask them of this.

Griffiths has said he’s proud to represent his country. He obviously dislikes Big Eck (with good reason). But as a Hibee who loves playing for Scotland – do you honestly think he’d go along with a boycott? Would Gordon, Hendry, Calmac want to boycott?

What would we be asking for, exactly, to end the boycott? Eck’s removal, Everyone at the SFA to resign?

This is the crux that I’m getting at – it’s unrealistic, imo, to even think it’s a possibility.

I’ve a better chance of winning the lottery.

  19. Well played young Daniel ?

MARSPAPA-belated birthday wishes ?Hope you enjoyed yourself on holiday mate?

  20. Hi Bhoys

Regards Celts playing for Scotland if they all withdrew from the squad, who would ask why and what would be achieved by it except for making some of our support happy.

Or Celtic could implement a no scots policy and this debate would disappear.

    Just a thought.

    KEEP THE FAITH

  21. In most sports playing for your country is the ultimate personal success. I would love to have played for Celtic and Scotland in my footballing years. Even now. Am still sprightly at 70 years old.

  22. weebobbycollins on

Withdrawals, statements, boycotts…will never ever happen. You really shouldn’t be getting so worked up about these things. The players know as much as we do re sfa, mcleish, bias etc. and yet they still want to play. How can they be criticised for that? Also, if the cheating has been going on for more than a century, it will take more than a statement asking for a level playing field to change anything…do what you personally feel is the right thing to do and let others do the same.

    Makes sense to me…
