Internationals, Scott, King Kenny, Willie Ormand

379

We have one league game, home to Motherwell, before facing Borussia Monchengladbach two weeks tonight, but there is a lot of football to be played before then for many in the squad.

Kolo Toure, Scott Brown and Scott Sinclair will be able to invest some time in building a training base, but the rest of the likely starters will face World Cup qualifiers with their various national teams. We have 18 players away in total and can only hope they return fit and ready.

Motherwell have experienced how difficult Celtic Park can be already this season, so on paper the forthcoming game doesn’t look too pressing, however, things ramp up for Celtic thereafter. The next five games have us home and away to Gladbach, at Hampden for the League Cup semi, and away to Ross County and Aberdeen.

A schedule like this illuminates the wisdom in Scott Brown retiring from international football. Kenny Dalglish, a player who always played for Scotland – apart from when national team manager Willie Ormand dropped him when he was about to eclipse a Rangers player’s run of 44 consecutive caps – believes Scott will regret retiring from international football.

Kenny did it all on the park, and harboured no bitterness at his SFA snub, so it’s harsh to dismiss his view out of hand. But he’s wrong on this one. Mikael Lustig should take note.

I’m fine, thanks. Hope you’re not pining too much.

    Thanks for your reply.

I genuinely wanted to know if I had missed something the club had said which had made you change your stance. No way was I implying that you shouldn’t be on here posting.

I’ve posted at least a dozen times that the league this year is a farce, and, no surprise here, haven’t been contradicted.

However, bad as that is, it is the fact that we are playing in it without protest from the club that I can’t accept.

Hence my forlorn hope that the Club would object to our collective intelligence being insulted by the ‘going for 55’ absurdity, and the ‘Scotland’s most successful club’ delusion.

And show at least some concern that we supporters paid for over 10 years to watch what has been proven to be a rigged game, something we couldn’t say about the biased refereeing over the years.

Wish things were different, as I miss the games like hell.

Thank God BR got us to the Champions League group.

Far from perfect, but at least not a farce.

    Hail Hail!

I genuinely don`t follow precisely what you want Celtic to do.

What Celtic can`t change , they ( and we ) have to accept.

It`s a culture that is our enemy.

What do you think a unilateral approach from Celtic will achieve ?

Is a statement going to achieve anything whatsoever ?

You both know that we are dealing with some dangerous people.

Possibly a statement of some sort could put Celtic people in danger.

    As Lenny et al. discovered.

I recall our chats, so I didn’t take your question as a dig. Sorry if my reply came across that way.

Like you, I miss watching the bhoys play. Particularly as Brendan seems to really be making a difference.. I see more EPL games now, and the football is probably better, but, honestly, it is not the same as watching the Bhoys…

We will have to agree to disagree on that point, my friend.

Turnbull showed more integrity in one day than our entire Board has in this whole sorry mess, and the world didn’t end when he did. There are reasons why our board has stayed silent, but I don’t believe for one second that safety is one of them …

I don’t have to accept it, that’s why I stopped going!

And supporters in Scotland showed they wouldn’t accept Sevco being placed in the SPL back in 2012, as if nothing had happened, by threatening non-renewal/uptake of season tickets.

This and this alone led to the vote by Premiership clubs not to allow Sevco admittance to the top tier in 2012.

So the right thing can be done when the will, and the outrage, is there.

If the truth can’t be uttered for fear of upsetting one four year old club and its follow-followers then the game’s not worth it.

Everything that was achieved before was done with the cooperation of other clubs.

An Tearmann, the Paul McStay photo in Heraghty’s was a cracker.

I may be wrong but I’m sure Matt McGlone provided it.

Matt was very friendly at the time with Paul and he also did some photography.

Matt managed to blag his way into grounds we were playing at by saying he was a press photographer . You can see him quite clearly beside one of the goals at the 5 nil game at Love Street. Choccy asked him if Dundee had scored.

    Yeah Matt McGlone.

Well remember the time at Love Street, a magical Celtic day, thanks to Mr Hay.

I recall seeing MM behind the goals when Charlie Nic scored a cracker vs Aberdeen at CP in 1983 in a game we lost 1-3 and, Eric Black scored a hat-trick, Charlie did his jig-of-joy in front of MM – then the Cellic sieve took over ;-(

Also, KKD was being interviewed on tv after the Hillsborough tribute game and, MM was there taking pics within earshot ;-)

Also, I recall seeing MM on a BBC Scotland program about the old Cellic bored called – Focal Point.

  18. Morning folks, a wee call out to all shareholders (in Celtic! :-))

For the first time ever the board of Celtic are supporting a resolution proposed by The Celtic Trust. This is hopefully a ground breaking move that will aid relations and communication between Celtic supporters and the board.

Despite this support we still need the required number of shareholders to sign up to ensure that the proposal goes before the AGM.

Further information is contained in this link as is the form which needs to be completed.

  23. Macjay, re: collusion over Barton. I would disagree; my take on it is that he will get a ban, not an outrageous one, but somewhere between 3 and 6, of which he will serve 2 to 4.

If he is made an example of his club (sic) will be duty bound to back him and appeal, as would the players Union. This would put both organisations in an invidious position of backing someone whom neither care for. Failure to do so by any of them will see the bold Mr Barton using all his media contacts and guile to play the victim card. His club (sic) do not want to see that happening; I don’t believe they or the SFA have the stomach for the fight so precedent (the previous relative inaction) will prevail.

They should have (and still should) hammered all those involved in gambling if it is against the rules but took the easy option in the past to pander to Sevco; it’s coming back to bite both of them.

There’s no joy for me watching Celtic take part, without protest, in what is a farce of a league, based as it is on the Big Lie.

There is for you and thousands of others, so good luck to you.

I’m willing to suspend my powers of disbelief to watch a good film or play, but not a football match.

Don’t worry, the CL exploits, and 50 years of memories, will sustain me.

    Gotta move.

  26. VFR 7.31

Sorry but I will disagree on one point about Barton and his employers ?

I could be wrong of course but Sevco do NOT have to back/ support Barton if he gets punished by the SFA, and neither does the players union ?

My reasoning is this, Sevco and the players union only have to serve up a ” token” statement if support for Barton along the lines of, ” we acknowledge and support the player did NOT p!ace bets that he was involved with, or pertains to his own club however, it is evidently clear that the player has been seen to have broken the SFA rules in relation to placing bets on matches that he had no involvement in, and therefore the ” club/ players union” ( delete as appropriate), reluctantly accept the proposed said punishment that the player has incurred from the SFA”.

That would be a simple get out clause for both Sevco and players union ?

If Barton wasn’t happy, he could go to all if his media pals that he wants, but IMO a statement close to what I have stated above would show that his club ( no matter how much they may want rid of him) ?), and the union have to some degree supported him, albeit whilst clearly ensuring that they acknowledge that the player broke the rukes, ?

I’ve got a feeling that there is a further few twists and turns in relation to Barton’s bets, and also perhaps his Sevco career to come in the following days or weeks ?
