Celtic comfortably reached the Scottish Cup quarter final with a 0-2 win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle this afternoon but the home team will rue two moments of suicidal defending which gifted Celtic the important chances. Georgios Samaras put his laces through the ball to score from a tight angle before Scott Brown converted a penalty after Gary Hooper created a chance from nothing.
Hooper tried a cocky back heal early on after creating a chance for himself but Inverness keeper Tuffey blocked. Nick Ross was first to test Fraser Forster with a shot from the 18 yard line but the keeper dived to his bottom right to turn the ball round the post. Meekings had a good chance from the resultant corner but Kelvin Wilson blocked.
Kris Commons started his first game in over two months and could have converted but missed his shot after Hooper cut back from the goal line. Samaras and Commons then combined well to setup Hooper for a shot from the edge of the box that was saved by Tuffey.
The opening goal arrived after 33 minutes when Commons played a forward pass from deep which Ross Tokely should have cleared but didn’t make a clean contact on, allowing Georgios Samaras to run clean through and thunder an unstoppable shot from a tight angle high into the net.
Five minutes after the break Matthews, Brown, Commons and Hooper combined in the best move of the game before Hooper crossed but Samaras shot from 6 yards flew over. Moments later Samaras had a chance from even closer when Ledley crossed from the left but he could not turn his attempt from three yards goal-wards.
The Greek striker was continually a threat and got on the end of a Mulgrew free kick to head from 12 yards but the attack was temporarily cleared. Gary Hooper collected at the corner of the box and passed deep to where he thought Scott Brown was but on seeing Brown was elsewhere the Englishman chased after the ball and robbed Proctor on the line. The Inverness defender then tripped Hooper as he closed in on goal to concede a penalty. Scott Brown converted with the kind of ease that will have Neil Lennon wondering how his team managed to miss so many penalties in the last two years.
James Forrest replaced the tiring Commons and ripped up the field before shoot wide from 8 yards as Celtic closed out the game comfortably.
Let’s hope we get a home draw in the next round. Although, Tannadice would be acceptable….

Je;avic has miraculously recovered from last week’s mystery illness and comes on for Everton.
Was his trip to Liverpool via Lourdes?
Jelly’s first involvement ends in……a handball…
Good stuff today, another very good save from poty Fraser forster and some great work all over the park. Hoopers workrate was particularly impressive
Haven’t seen Bournesouprecipe for a fee days, did I see someone say that he wasn’t well?
Toffee supporters belting out “Grand Old Team”…..more similarities.
Jelly on, but wobbling.
Sorry :-))
Referee was a disgrace today. Nothing hugely controversial, just did nothing to protect our players from Butchers boot-chers who got away with leaving the foot in after almost every challenge. Still, with us playing the referees beloved Hertz on Wednesday he would consider a few injuries to be a job well done.
As for Big Tel’s big red, greetin, apoplectic, ugly, twisted ,hunnish, coupon………a joy to behold!
I see he’s putting his troops on a “war footing” for next weeks game, so I fancy us to finish 5-0 against his 9 men.

It’s not what Houston says in the media that matters, it’s what his team does on the pitch – and after us United probably have the best record of any Premier League team in Govan.
Has he been booke for diving yet?
Well, he’s been on the park for about 5 minutes!
Some things never change.
Or do they?
booke = booked
You knew that already.

Can I draw the attention of all CQNers who are not able to watch Celtic in person to the following letter Celtic have issued to supporters whose details they hold. If you have not got one and want to participate get the actual reply address from CQNers who did receive the message (I’ll ask Kitabla to supply it).
Dear Mr
As part of the global Celtic family we would like some feedback on how we can communicate with you more effectively and offer you tangible links back to the club no matter where you are in the world.
We’d like you to be able to steer how we engage with you and to tell us what you want from us to make your experience as a Celtic fan more enjoyable and rewarding.
All surveys completed by Friday, February 10 will be entered into a prize draw to win a season 2011/12 signed shirt
Improving communication has been my hobby horse for some time and Celtic are definitely listening with the addtion of an official Twitter account (as well as Tony Hamilton (polishturnstile for some reason) using his account) see
http://www.celticfc.net/newsstory?item=2118
Back to the letter:the folk who can attend games have had the chance to provide Celtic with some feedback via associations and this is an opportunity to feed in the views of the wider global audience whose perspective will be a bit different.
Please reply to the survey it is your chance to be heard.
Great to see our manager get his team and tactics spot on today, bringing in the big ghuys to combat the agricultural style of play favoured by big soor face`s team`s. Neil really is getting the best out of his big and young pool of players. I`ll just repeat that for any LL or hunterlopers who may be lurking his BIG and YOUNG pool of players, that he added to in the transfer window as well.

Lads I’m not sure if any of you heard Mcaulay and co on Radio Scotland this morning.
Stewart Mitchell and Bruce Devlin were asked about the shenanigans at Rangers, Mitchell was asked would it be a good thing if they went bust and he repiled yes it would rid Scotland of the sectarian problem and the casualty wards a bit quieter at the weekends.
LoL, well said that man, at last someone talks sense.
Oh deary me Jellys new team 1-0 down
Tim Howard makes an incredible blunder to let Wigan score.

Next time I see Neil’s team sheet, i will nod with approval.
What the hell do I know, Neil gets it spot on today
He is really growing as a manager and now clearly understands the opposition and
how to pick a team to beat them.
more power to him
read Kojo earlier and I guess, like me, he reacted to the team with trepidation,
got to hand it to the manager Kojo

Well fholks, on for a bit of distraction from the grimness that is my reality at the present time!
Just thinking about the TV coverage and the commentary from the likes of ESPN and SKY ‘pundits’ as well as the BBC. They seem to do the exact opposite of what they do for the EPL – in other words they constantly talk it down. The production values are rank. The visuals do nothing to enhance it. They are underselling the product. The SPL should be going to the TV dudes and getting angry about it.
I watch Match of the Day frequently. Poor games are made to look half decent. The lighting seems to enhance the pitches and old run down stadia like Goodison and Craven Cottage are made to look AND SOUND like exciting places even when they are half empty. There is no doubt they edit the sound as well as the picture to make it sound as if there was an atmosphere. I’ve been to Anfield – it’s pathetic in comparison with Celtic Park, but it looks great on TV. White Hart LAne is not a pretty site, I’ve been in the Reebok and it’s like a football stadium in miniature. I’m told Balckburn’s ground is a toilet, wigans much the same as the reebok, I’ve been past Villa Park – very ordinary, the list goes on. But the point is these places are made to look like exciting venues and they are talked up as having the ‘old fashioned football ground feel to them’ and other such platitudes.
Now, some will say the product is poor to begin with. I can’t argue that it is all great or that you will see the worlds best technically gifted players on display. But that is not all there is to football. There is the Edinburgh derby which I would rather watch than the Lancashire ones, the west london ones and most other english derby games other than Manchester, North London and the Man U/ Liverpool hate fest. There should be some more hype around Aberdeen and DUFC as well.
Of course talking it up is not a solution to making it better but it would get people more interested, maybe get a few more at the grounds, increase sponsorship and advertising revenue etc.
The SPL are letting themselves and their clubs down by not insisting on better production of the football shows that they permit to be made on their turf. They also need to address ticket prices to get more asses on seats in order to generate more atmosphere, more advertising revenue, match day revenue etc for the smaller clubs.
Unlike the Dastardly Doomed Dark Side I believe Celtic should take an interest in revitalising provincial teams all over Scotland. In the Sporting Spirit in which we have always thrived we should seek healthy competition with Aberdeen, DUFC, Hibs and Hamilton Accies while seeking to ensure that tax cheats and overspenders get their just reward (it is a happy coincidence that these clubs happen to be Hearts and The Orcs)
Just a few thoughts based on some things that i read on here folks. excuse the randomness. my head is a mess.
