Inverness panic instead of asking for support

447

There has been an enormous amount of guff said and written during the last five months but last night’s statement by Inverness Caledonian Thistle chairman, Kenny Cameron, is surely is up there with the most bizarre.

“All clubs will now have to live with the repercussions of this decision. Scottish football was at a cross roads today in terms of what was on the table for all clubs regarding reorganisation, financial distribution and a road map that would have taken the game forward.

“But this has now been thrown in to disarray by this decision. This is a sad day for all clubs in Scotland.

“Certain clubs in the SFL have perceived the financial information they were receiving as a ‘big stick’ to beat them into accepting Newco in the First Division. This was definitely not the case, as far as I am concerned. What they were being told was the reality of the situation.

“We will be convening an emergency board meeting over the weekend to discuss the very serious financial implications for us as a club going forward.”

Instead of explaining to the people of Inverness that buying season tickets will prevent the club making non-football staff redundant he seems to be preparing the ground for significant cutbacks.

This is the reality for every club in the SPL and several in the SFL.  Fans, including Inverness fans, demanded that a sporting element was retained in their game.  Now they’ve gotten their way, Inverness and the rest should be putting out the clarion call for fans to buy tickets.

As football fans, this is our responsibility.  35 out of 42 clubs voted to reject Sevco into anything other than the bottom level of Scottish football.  Now we must step forward.

P.S. You don’t really need me to tell you, but buy a season ticket now!

Finally somebody in msm (but not sport journo) asking questions of Sky.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-business-18841950

It is vital that the role Sky has played, even if unwittingly, in diminishing Scottish football is highlighted.

Long before the even showed our games the money the paid the EPL made us uncompetitive in wage terms that meant best players go south.

Then because the product is weakened they pay less and look for conditions that totally undermine the games integrity, all the while as mentioned earlier they subsidise the EPL with Scottish money, not other people’s money but our own!

Its like a leccy company charging you £100 pm for leccy and your neighbour £50 when it should be closer to £75 each. It happens because there was no competitive bidding but as the author says ESPN might abandon ship (a view my lassie in the sport intelligence business mentioned to me) but BT Vision have big plans to challenge Sky and where better for BT CEO Ian Livingston and BT Vision Mark Watson , who worked in an advisory capacity with the SPL, to start.

There are social reasons, football is a huge part of Scottish culture, why Sky should be challenged politically to state what they intend to do to repair the damage to Scotland, but you will not hear The Sun saying that and we will not hear Alex Salmond saying anything to annoy The Sun and Murdoch will we First Minister?

I used to spend a lot of time in Jack Beards about 7 to 10 years ago watching the Celtic games. Thought it was a great pub for watching the games, also loved how they handed out free food at half time – pies and chip baguette’s. Sad to hear they have shut it down, so many of the best London Celtic pubs have shut down over the years,

Someday i will relate my afternoon in The Bluebell in Gareshead, about 87, and a buncha eejits.

    Friday,btw,less than 24 hours before kick-off.

Paul Gascoigne was an exceptionally gifted player, and doing then what any daft young fitba plerr in that area would do,though few would do it on a Friday.

He was easily led,and a source of money and fame for all who happened to be his hingers-on.

Personally,I blame Venebles for what he became.

I moved to London in 1990,and the stories I heard about PG being out of control were frightening-witness the few which were printed.

What Rangers did to him was even worse-by that time, they knew they had an out of control person, but a valuable player.

They used and abused that simple childlike useful idiot,to their shame-if they ever had any-and destroyed any chance he ever had of being a normal human being.

When he joined Rangers,he was damaged.

They willfully finished the job for their own ends.

Don’t seem to remember that, the band went round a few times.Maybe the media was not happy, but so what.HH

Simply observed that as soon as he became aware of the band’s presence, Bob Kelly called a halt. Don’t think that the media made any comment on band or its nature

    ===============================

Happy to report your fears are unfounded.

SRK was aware of the bands presence (& indeed the supplier of the lorry) and approved.

The band was removed after two circuits for two reasons:

    1) Because of the fans, mainly kids, breaking onto the track caused delays to the concern of the police.

    2) It meant the lorry could go round faster and get a few more circuits in.

Eventually the kids couldn’t contain themselves and a more general happy pitch invasion brought things to an end!

NOTHING in those days happened at CP without RKs approval :-)

I doubt that anyone else woud view that as anything other than a criticism of how RFC treated Paul Gascoigne.

Looking at it as I have described it,do you therefore consider it a valid point?

Gordon, I didn’t take your post the wrong way but appreciate EDB’s feelings on a very serious and touchy subject.

My Mum was a recovering alcoholic so I can sympathise with you EDB.

My dear old Mum did more in her life than most women in the world would be expected to do in 5 lifetimes.

Unfortunately I fell out of love with my Mum while she was drinking and I regret that so much, so very very much.

When she needed my help most, all I could do was criticise her. How wrong I was.

When my Mum stopped drinking the love returned and we were great pals.

Unfortunately she died of cancer a couple of years later.

They were the best two years of my life, up until then.

EDB, when I think and pray for my Mum I will say one for your Dad. If he was recovering for 35 years he was indeed a great man.

And, like my old Mum, sadly missed.

    Gob bless them.

  15. When PG signed for demexhuns I stayed just along the road from the hairdressers where he got the peroxide job done. They were literally lining up outside waiting to get theirs done. For most of them it managed to highlight their ugliness even more than I thought was humanly possible. I used to see the o.o coming down the street and from a distance it looked like a team of sun burnt albinos.

    No offence to albinos

Sorry to hear about Father Calum. He was a real star of “An Island Parish” who always seemed to have a glint in his eye. I think he probably had a great life.

  22. The heroes of the SFL , Stranraer , Clyde , Raith Rovers ……………can we not invite them to Celtic Park to play us as a thank u for their noble stand and let them keep the admission monies

    Too provocative?

  23. Regan, Olgilvie, the SFA and the forthcoming witch hunt

Regan has worked to keep the oldco viable while it was clear their situation was terminal. If he was stronger and took the big decisions earlier it would have slightly mitigated the mess the oldco cheats have left us with thats all.

Its convenient now for the newco and their fans to pin it all on one guy again as it takes the heat of their in house main players…….especially Minty

But lets not forget Ogilvie the oldcos man on the inside he should have walked or got pushed long ago

His role as president has been clearly untenable since the EBT scandal was exposed, now we can see he was massively compromised because he received his EBT money years before while in a major SFA role. Why he is still there is simple Regan knew if he goes questions will be asked about Ogilvies appointment which begs the question when did Regan first hear about oldcos EBTs before or after his appointment..?

The current weakness within the SFA also exposes the control the oldco had on Scottish football and society, there was real and tangible fear to do anything about them until it got out of hand…Neil Lennon anyone.

Regan mentioned social unrest and members of critical panels got earmarked for hate campaigns encouraged by views from Mc Coist. It was obvious then that anyone who caused them to sink further would be as well finding some other country to live and work….Craigy boy Whyte anyone

With oldcos newco in the 3rd the game is over for any more “above average influence” over the SFA from them. The newcos vote is now small potatoes as far as restructuring of the game is concerned so it looks like ra people are about to get watered down.

Thankfully there is still one big Scottish club at the top table unblemished with money that is 100% clean who can help along the change.

It was interesting to hear Mc Coist say they will come back stronger (no surrender) lets hope that means paying all the bills along the way and their strength is gained by honest endeavour

I must admit CFC have played a blinder in all this (so far) I guess they seen it coming.

No wonder Peter Lawell laughed at that transfer from another Universe….
