Inverness panic instead of asking for support

447

There has been an enormous amount of guff said and written during the last five months but last night’s statement by Inverness Caledonian Thistle chairman, Kenny Cameron, is surely is up there with the most bizarre.

“All clubs will now have to live with the repercussions of this decision. Scottish football was at a cross roads today in terms of what was on the table for all clubs regarding reorganisation, financial distribution and a road map that would have taken the game forward.

“But this has now been thrown in to disarray by this decision. This is a sad day for all clubs in Scotland.

“Certain clubs in the SFL have perceived the financial information they were receiving as a ‘big stick’ to beat them into accepting Newco in the First Division. This was definitely not the case, as far as I am concerned. What they were being told was the reality of the situation.

“We will be convening an emergency board meeting over the weekend to discuss the very serious financial implications for us as a club going forward.”

Instead of explaining to the people of Inverness that buying season tickets will prevent the club making non-football staff redundant he seems to be preparing the ground for significant cutbacks.

This is the reality for every club in the SPL and several in the SFL.  Fans, including Inverness fans, demanded that a sporting element was retained in their game.  Now they’ve gotten their way, Inverness and the rest should be putting out the clarion call for fans to buy tickets.

As football fans, this is our responsibility.  35 out of 42 clubs voted to reject Sevco into anything other than the bottom level of Scottish football.  Now we must step forward.

P.S. You don’t really need me to tell you, but buy a season ticket now!

I watched White & Smith on ssn yesterday converse abt sevco d3 freefall. Im sure if they had been next to one another they wd have went into a big bubbly hug!!!

  3. Thanks Stevebhoy, I cannot comprehend that the SPL chairman would allow them in, if they do they have let everyone down no matter which club you support.

  4. Regan and Doncaster will fight to the bitter end on behalf of Sevco. They will try again for an SPL vote as the SFL1 vote did not go to plan. Expect this on Monday.

If SPL vote is against , then they will go for reorganisation again. As Sevco will go under if they are a year out of football , they will try for 2012/13. This will create anarchy in the Scottish game. Regan and Doncaster are prepared to do this.

Regan and Doncaster should be sacked for damaging Scottish football to such an extent. Supporters of very club in Scotland including Sevco want them out.

After that we should amalgamate SFA/SPL/SFL and have men of substance and integrity (like Turnbull Hutton) run our game for the benefit off all.

Great statement from Annan Athletic.Respect to the “diddy”clubs as some like to call them.I would say they are small clubs ,with people of ” integrity” at the top.HH.

On the question of season ticket renewal a few random thoughts came to my mind ,I rarely post so forgive me my intrusion.

I was still in my teens, only just, but still in them when things started to change over Ibrox way and the big money started getting flashed around . At first I ignored it ,along with many others we thought it was a flash in the pan, it would all end once the English European ban ended anything they can do we can match and when we won the league and cup double in our Centenary Season I thought there you go Iknew it would be alright nothing to worry about.

Then the spending under Murray ramped up every time we thought we were in with a chance more money was spent to knock Celtic my club back down .Everywhere I turned back then in the late 80’s and most of the 90’s the huns were in their full triumphalist pomp rubbing their every success and our every failure in my/our face.

Keeping the faith was hard but I did it along with my friends for ten years from 88-98 we followed Celtic home and away sometimes praying for draw at home 6 of thse years were trophyless but we kept going .

When I thought things were dark they got darker in 94 we thought we could lose our club altogether , but our support rallied ,and of course Fergus came along but it was soul destroying for the longest time . Losing to Raith Rovers at Ibrox nearly finished me but that light inside me that is Celtic would never be extinguished.

And all through this was that horrible feeling that they maybe were better than us after all they could buy any player they wanted it seemed ,they had more money than Celtic how could this be why was it happening,of course now we know the truth but back then it was hell.

Summer of 98 was a bright spot we were Champions again and it felt goooooooood and then came John Barnes and Kenny Dalglish and ICT and it seemed we were back in the malestrom again.

The year 2000 and The Mon years start and our heads lift things start going our way we were in charge again but still over the city sneered we bought a player they bought two and for the next 12 seasons or so we were never totally clear of them ,and it became increasingly clearer why.

Stories on the internet started to firm up the paranoid conspiracies became fact .

They were cheating-dual contracts ,they were avoiding tax-EBT-they were over extended at the bank they were run by charlatans and wide boys they were defrauding the exchequer.

And now they’re liquidated in division 3 my season ticket as always was renewed the day it came through the door .MY CLUB CELTIC endured a helluva lot in the last 30 years they cheated us they ridiculed us and they tried to put us out of business . And if anybody thinks I’m going to walk away from my club just because no other team can come near us ……..well they can never have lived through the hard times ………I’m going to lap up every minute of it for as long as it lasts.

Thanks for letting me take up your time with my thoughts.

No matter the quality of the opposition CELTIC will always be my club my team and in my heart.

  9. It occurs to me that, if ICT are struggling to survive in the SPL, it might make a positive start to reconstruction if they offer to withdraw from the SPL for the season, thereby reducing it to ten teams and allowing other, more business-like clubs, such as DAFC or Dundee, to plan for expansion to (say) 16 teams the next season. That would allow a full season to plan which clubs want to be part of a league without Sevco, and to arrange television coverage by willing partners. My guess is that both ESPN and BT Vision would happily cover Scottish football, including lower divisions. Perhaps BBC Alba might expand their delayed transmission coverage and their Cup coverage for the current SFL clubs. Perhaps this type of initiative might allow a planned growth scenario which would, in the medium term, benefit such as ICT who don’t value SPL membership in these post-RFC days…

On the Dundee versus Dunfermline debate, the SPL rules say Dunfermline should not get relegated. However, given their recent track record with their disregard for their own rules, we should be prepared to see anyone like Dundee, Arbroath, Civil Service Strollers, Glasgow Warriors, Greggs, or SomeNewlyCreatedRandomCompany.com being invited.

  19. If the chairmen of the SPL clubs have any guts they will demand immediate resignations of the clowns who have been central to the debacle that we have all witnessed since Valentines Day.

    1. Remove the clowns.

    2. Decide on Dundee or Dunfermline.

    3. Call an EGM of the SFA and demand immediate resignation of the entire board. Yes, that includes Eric Riley of Celtic.

An entirely new board should be elected based on integrity rather than politics and political connections.

Let Monday be the start of a bright new dawn for Scottish football. Terminate this farce now. Leave RFC (whatever) to sort out their considerable legal problems – along with the various ‘officials’ who have been complicit in their affairs.

Yes, the other clubs in Scotland will have to tighten their belts. That is going to have to happen anyway. The ridiculous salaries players are paid is unsustainable. The EPL will soon have to face that reality too.
