INVINCIBLE BOYATA’S NEW ROLE

FORMER Celtic Invincible Dedryck Boyata has returned to football following his exit from Club Brugge.

The 34-year-old central defender, who was signed for the Hoops by ex-boss Ronny Deila in a £1.5million switch from Manchester City in June 2015, has just been named coach of Belgium’s Under-21 team, according to a report in The Scottish Sun.

Boyata had been looking for a way back into football after his January release from the Jupiler League side, who face Russell Martin’s Ibrox outfit in the Champions League play-offs, and was delighted to join the international set-up.

THREE CHEERS…Dedryck Boyata, Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham celebrate the 2-0 Scottish Cup Final win over Motherwell at Hampden in May 2018.

The one-time centre-back was capped 31 times for his country over a 12-year period.

Boyata was part of Brendan Rodgers’ all-conquering Invincibles squad that claimed the treble in 2016/17 as the Hoops swept through the Irishman’s debut campaign without defeat.

Unfortunately, his time in Glasgow ended in controversy after a fall-out with the manager and he left at the end of his contract in the summer of 2019 to join Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin where he played for three years before moving to Club Brugge.
