INVINCIBLE’S FAIRYTALE CONTINUES

CELTIC Invincible Craig Gordon’s remarkable career story took another dramatic turn when the veteran keeper was named in the Scotland squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Greece and Belarus at Hampden.

The 42-year-old netminder has yet to play even a minute of first-team football for Hearts this season.

Gordon has been sidelined with neck and hamstring injuries, but has returned to training and that has been enough for manager Steve Clarke to bring him in alongside Angus Gunn and Liam Kelly.

The 81 times-capped shotstopper’s last appearance came in a 1-0 first leg play-off triumph over Greece in Athens in March.

A BIG HAND…Kieran Tierney is in Scotland’s World Cup squad.

Celtic’s defensive double-act Anthony Ralston and Kieran Tierney are also in the 23-man player pool.

The Scots are currently second in Group C following a goalless draw in Denmark and a 2-0 victory over Belarus in Hungary earlier this month.

The Greeks, who won 3-0 at the venue in March, return to Hampden a week on Thursday with Belarus due three days later on Sunday.

The top team in the group qualify directly for next summer’s World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, while the second-placed team will enter the March play-offs.

The draw for the elite competition will take place on December 5 in Washington.
