Ireland again or San Marino for Celtic in CL qualifiers

112

Celtic will face either Linfield from Belfast or La Fiorita from San Marino in the second qualifying round of the Champions League. The Irish club will be overwhelming favourites to face the Scottish champions.

Preliminary dates for the first leg would see Celtic away from home on the 11 or 12 July, which would present unique security issues for authorities, should we be in Belfast on either evening.

The first qualifying rounds take place on 27/28 June and 4/5 July.

Not the potential draw anyone wanted, and the last ingredient Belfast needs that week.

Hopefully Jonny bhoy Hayes, gets his career at Celtic off to a flyer with a few goals in Belfast , or even better San Marino.

Oh joy, playing bigots at their most bigoty time of year.

Play the match behind closed doors…

I concur, we dont need the gate money, they do though thats why it will probably go ahead. Given the current air of uncertainty over there I cant help feeling this fixture could be used to spark something more sinister.

  5. TGM,

I hope that the San Marino Giants maul them. 1-0 over 2 legs would be fine.

Looking at things more global…… This game is setup…. why? Dallas is in a power place wtf, why?

Have they switched the first leg yet?

Hmm…autocorrect has clearly changed “fleg” to “first leg”…

Personally I don’t want Linfield it their Scottish hangers-on anywhere near Celtic Park on July 12.

We will get the blame for any crap that happens.

Leave it as it is,the plus side is that public transport will be no problem whatsoever.

    LA BELLA ITALIA .

18 year old goalkeeper -Gigi Donnarumma -has announced he is leaving AC Milan . His reasons – wants to play for a bigger / better team ,wants to have a chance of winning something , doesn’t think 75k euros a week is enough .

Some AC Milan were so enraged by the decision -they travelled to Poland and turned up at last night’s Euro Under 21 game between Denmark and Italy . Donnarumma in goal for Italy . They unfurled a big striscione bearing the Legend -DOLLARUMMA -and then bombarded the pitch with fake money.

Aye,also got DAVIDOPOULOS looking to his laurels wi that one.

  11. I’m sure that in the past EUFA made arrangements to keep certain teams apart in draws. Surely Celtic and Linfield come into that category. This is a potential powder keg. It’s absolutely crazy to play these games as per the draw. Didn’t Rangers and Shelbourne play a game in Tranmere some years ago to avoid the possibility of trouble.

  12. They can’t switch the ties, Healy and the Linfield players will want to march on the 12th before playing the game.

Paul67 was in Belfast last week, maybe he got a heads up about the tie and was booking his hotel!! :-)

Sometimes you just have to bow before the master-and give it your best shot to do the bugger when he’s off guard!!!

  14. This is a draw we did not need. If it were to kick off either in Belfast or at Celtic Park, we will be blamed in some way for any disturbance. Given the fact that we have received a few fines from UEFA in recent seasons, we could be banned from the competition.

Why have UEFA allowed this to happen? Are they totally unaware of the possible conflict here? I hope supporters clubs refuse to travel in order to be sure of the wellbeing of their members. Of course, fans in the six counties and the republic may chose to attend. But I hope we boycott this one.

Condolences to Angelgabriel and Gene on your loses. Prayers will be said.

    Steady on ole bhoy

Irish Celtic supporters have rights to see ‘Celtic in Europe’ and in their very own backyard.

The locus is on Linfield and Celtics support are guilty of nothing, aside a few banned smoke bombs which

can be said of all major European clubs.

Its not Celtics fault we have to play clubs with ‘tradition’.

  16. Linfield were soundly beaten 2-0 by Queen of the South in last year’s IRN BRU Cup (QoS had 28 shots on goal)

The bigotry is the only threatening aspect of this tie…

  17. When do Celtic play again?

I know they will benefit from a good rest.

Excited about the Team, really excited about the Team, my Sons…. and Celtic too. ;))

Hopefully Linfield won’t happen. I’m sure it will hovevaaaaah. :(((((

    Ascertained, who knows anything.
