Ironic crop of creative, unusable, talent at Lennoxtown

258

There is a bit of irony with Celtic so bereft of creativity at the moment, having Marian Shved and Ryan Christie both at Lennoxtown but unable to play.  Shved, 21, will be eligible to make his Celtic debut next season.  It did not work out for him as a teenager at Sevilla, but he has been a player of promise since his school days.

Ryan Christie looked like he would never make his Celtic breakthrough, but a series of injuries presented him with an opportunity at the League Cup semi-final against Hearts at Murrayfield, which he transformed from a taut occasion into a comfortable win.

Hearts, who we play on the final league game and in the Scottish Cup Final, are going through a torrid run of form, but their task at Hampden will be to block and frustrate the champions.  An infusion of creativity from somewhere will be required.

Many thanks to those who participated in the auction for tickets for Sunday’s game, the winner paid £960 to the Celtic FC Foundation, a magnificent total.

  2. I will get behind the next manager whoever that is and I hope he gets the backing of the board to get a first pick rightback, centreback and striker. Those purchases will be just as important as the manager we bring in.

I would like to think the next manager would simply be a first team coach with the sports science, individual programmes and diet etc… inbedded into the overall structure of the football department and so not part of the manager’s remit.

I would like to see us streamline the first team squad to a max of 22 first teamers with more focus on academy and youth development to support the squad if/ when needed.

  3. The old “one fan is better than another fan” argument again eah?

Let’s put it this way, there are some fans who can’t afford to go. There are some fans who live too far away to go. There are some who are too ill to go. There are some who are too lazy but follow the club passionately from their homes. There are fans who have work commitments. Others who have family commitments. There are some who love this club with all their hearts but get freaked out in big crowds. There are some who weigh up what’s in the bank with their list of priorities and make a choice.

And there are some who are lucky. Who can afford to do it. Who have the time to do it. Who are able to go every week and who do. 90% of those people respect those who don’t.

And then there are others who don’t respect anything or anyone but are good at faking it.

Below them are people who crow over other people who aren’t quite so good or so lucky or rich or whatever it is. “Real fans.” The only fans who matter.

Yes, in their own minds. Selfish arrogant sods.

one of the most common themes on here is the clique moaning about how many more posts there are when we lose compared to when we win.

cant imagine why fans would have more to say when we lose against sevco compared to when we win against hamilton ?

i mean, its not as if that happens in the pubs after said games ?

Talking about renewing STs, I have renewed the past two years and made 2 games the year before last, and 3 games last year, due to ill health. I have renewed again this year because I hate the thought of giving up the brilliant seat I have in the main stand which I’ve had for years. Hopefully I will manage to use it. HH

  14. I ” MAY” regret this ( see what i did there ?)…..

    Re Neil Lennon “debate”….

Its been claimed on here ever since Neil left Celtic the 1st time that he had fall outs with The board, and wasnt backed enough with Cash to buy better players etc…I dont know if any of that is true ?

IF, that was TRUE, then WHY would he want the job this time around….UNLESS He has been offered it, with assurances that He will be properly backed this time around ? IF he hasnt or was not given those assurances by now , or after The Cup Final, WHY would he want the job THIS Time around ?

Its very easy for many on here and in Pubs and Clubs etc, to state “Who Celtic should get as Manager etc” rather than Neil Lennon, who MAY be viewed by some as a “Risk”, but it’s going to a “Risk” no matter who Celtic appoint …surely ?

I dont know Neil Lennon ( I only met him twice when he was a Player), I dont know Bentiz, I dont know Mourinho ( Do I want to ?), I dont know Stevie Clarke etc etc…..Overall, I do NOT know the “Workings” of ANY of the so called Candidates who’s Names are being mooted, and whether ANY of those Candidates would bring something new and FAB in relation to how Celtic would Train and Play in the immediate future….None of us do ?

However, IF Neil Lennon gets the Job, along with those ” Spending Assurances”, who can honestly say that He wouldn’t bring even more success to Celtic FC….IF He is given the VERY SAME Backing that ANY of the other so called Candidates were given /

What I DO KNOW however, is that unlike Mr Rodgers…Neil Lennon as a Celtic Manager WILL Call Out any ongoing Thuggery from the opposition, and the Cheating Refs etc etc….Would we get that from ANY of the other “Candidates”….I aint so sure ?

  15. Good morning from another Costa del Garngad day.

So we have trophy day this weekend????????

Why on earth is it on a Sunday at 3pm. Ffs

If I was organising a fun day/ fair it would be a Saturday, no not Scottish football a feckin Sunday. To let people travelling from afar time for travel.

Honestly, so feckin incompetent or is it??? Do they not want Celtic fc and the fan base to have as much fun as is possible.

Anyway it’s still good to be a Tim ?

Any lurking Huns, a treble feckin treble we are going for??? wow.. Oh and GIRFUY

    Good morning CQN.

David Moyes has been in football management for over twenty years. He has won the Football League 2nd Division nineteen years ago and the FA Community Shield (with Manchester United) six years ago… that’s it!

In the words of Harry Enfield… “Hoy, Lawwell…… NOOOOOO”

    ?⚽️

  17. Good morning from a gloriously sunny Forres, heading to Glasgow for the CSA do tonight and of course Champions presentation on Sunday.

    HAG,

Exactly, the only reason Moyes was in top flight football for so long was that he was employed by a singularly unambitious Everton who were happy with mid-table mediocrity and the possible odd trip to a national stadium.

  18. bournesouprecipe on 16th May 2019 11:05 pm

And there’s loads bumping their gums that do go to the games. In time honoured CQN fashion, I believe it would be better if people just played the ball.

For the record, I don’t think Lenny’s the bhoy to take us forward (I think he’s introduced some negativity to our cup final build up with his cvomments), we’ve had a taste of what could be and I think we need to show some ambition. If it is to be Lenny, fair enough.

Anyway that’s for the future, I’ll enjoy this title as much as the others and looking forward to a cup final.

  19. David66 on 17th May 2019 6:36 am

Ach if anybody else would have won it, it’d still be the Sunday. All for TV, a pain in the butt.

I understand we are not likely to get manager’s from the top leagues but that accounts for 5 countries out of about 29. What about Belgium? Apparently many Brugge fans were disappointed when Ivan Lenko, 41 years old, was appointed coach last summer as his inexperience counted against him.

But Brugge have flourished under Leko, reportedly playing the best football in Belgium. He won the league title and the Belgium supercup in his debut season and they are 2nd in the league at the moment.

Are people like this out of our reach?

    ========

Possibly. If we thought he was the man we could ask the question but chances are he’d see it as a sideways move. His team are currently 2nd in the league, trailing Genk by 4pts.

Hes not been a manager very long and in October last year Belgian police interrogated him regarding corruption, apparently. Not sure if any charges arose from it.

You clearly believe Neil Lennon to be a top quality manager. By your own theory, there was no way Hibs (in the Championship at the time) should have bothered trying to get him as he would be way above their level.

Leeds managed to get one of the most respected and influential coaches in the world to come to the English Championship. They could have just not bothered trying and gone to Crawley Town (or wherever he is these days) and got Harry Kewell because he “knows the club”.

Give them something to buy into. Look at what they might need. Show some ambition. You might even find you get in applications from candidates you hadn’t considered, but are impressed by the ambition they see.

As for names, I have listed at least seven or eight, just from my own knowledge of European football. But I would be engaging the services of a real expert. We have had nearly a year to be working on this and have probably already missed out on some potential candidates.

    =========

Hahaha, wtf?! ‘By my own theory’, that you dreamt up?!

Nah mate, merely highlighting the various factors and barriers to landing a top candidate that so many others are wilfully ignorant of.

On Bielsa, the English Championship offers huge salaries and wages, that we cant compete with. And not to mention, a direct route to the EPL, which Leeds had a reasonable chance of making.

We offer a greatly reduced salary, a greatly reduced summer holiday, and a potential trip to NI in July. ‘Haud me back’, he’ll be thinking!

A little dose of reality sometimes is a good thing.

Easy to say we’ve had nearly a year, Rodgers left a couple of months ago. Its all about circumstances and availability NOW, not last year. As it was with Rodgers, a lot has to fall into place to land any manager. Even more so with the top drawer ones.

We may just get lucky again and get Rafa given his issues with Ashley and Newcastle, but I’m not getting my hopes up on that one.

Also, can you post again the 7 or 8 names you referred to, just out of interest. I seen your suggestion of Eddie Howe but missed the others.

Fwiw, its easy to say no manager is going to leave EPL for Scotland because yes, at the moment, its almost certainly true. These guys are earning megabucks and spending megabucks and all for the aim of survival.

Our big carrot is the CL and winning trophies, but its a hard sell because of the wages on offer in England, and the perilous route to get to the CL. Plus all these guys have been inspired by Leicester winning the EPL and are not going to leave the land of milk and honey for a shot at the SPFL. In their minds they are the next Leicester, or the next potential manager of one of the so called big 4. Spurs or Arsenal now don’t come directly to us for players, they go to Southampton first, or most recently in the case of Dembele, Lyon. Then the so called top clubs.

And the chances of them coming to us for a manager are also very, very low. Rodgers was linked but ended up at Leicester.

  23. Rafa Benitez reportedly met Ashley yesterday.

He’s most likely just drawing this out to use his maximum leverage over Ashley. I still fully accept him to sign a 2 year deal.

    ====

Most likely, and in any event Benitez would have plenty options either now or when vacancies start popping up in October-January when clubs who have had a bad start react and sack their manager.

Rumour that Ashley didnt turn up to the meeting though, not seen that confirmed anywhere.
