Irresistible Celtic

207

45 minutes of irresistible football was enough for Celtic to open up a four point gap at the top of the table over the weekend, with a game in hand over Aberdeen, ahead of their clash on Wednesday.

The result was more pleasing for the goal contributions from Liam Scales, Luke McCowan, Paulo Bernardo and Adam Idah, who have all been left on the bench in recent weeks.  Brendan Rodgers was entitled to instruct a cessation of hostilities at the break, as he prepares his side for what will be greater challenges ahead.

Progress so far this season has been spectacularly good.  The Four games over the next two weeks will tell you if we are onto something special.

  1. christmas shopping instead of the match, on a saturday afternoon, with a 3pm kick off.

are the shops not open on a sunday nowadays.

dearie me, it is a poor excuse for not attending.

  2. Good Morning, Gene, (from previous page)

Many Thanks for thinking about us.

I’ve passed your message on to son in law who deals with the techy stuff. Im not allowed anywhere near clever, modern stuff.

Logging into CQN is just about my limit, and then it’s usually just enough time to read all the great post -ers,and scroll by the nutty ones, and then it’s time to do the donkey rounds again. To be fair to son in law, they’ve just moved house , but I’ll chivvy him along.

I do need my fix of CQN, however, – it’s what keeps me sane…… most of the time.

We had a lovely couple visiting us from your neck of the woods last Saturday – Vale supporters too! Happy Valiants!!!!!!

Otherwise, All’s Well here…. Most of the time!

  3. Paul; we actually and definitely are living thru/experiencing some especially good times.

9-i-ar and quaddie trebles are the stuff of far-fetched dreams for almost any club worldwide.

Euro Vase is another frontier but we can still be proud – in the present – by what Brendan’s bhoys are achieving in this campaign. We have every chance to get to the next stage if we stay the current course.

If Trusty was bought at 6mill, Scalesy is worth at least that for sure: I think Liam is a super young pro for us.

Paolo and Luke gave our midfield a bite they don’t quite have when the Chill Twins (Reo and Arne) start.

My pressing concerns over Yang were alleviated with this thought: If he isn’t a pure winger, doesn’t he have the control and passing ability to do what Reo does ? Could he be coached and fashioned into that mould ?

  4. attendance watch – near 2,000 unoccupied seats for a “sold out ” event.

less well off celtic supporting families are priced out, and must feel sick when season book holders just do not turn up.

  5. Liam, Paolo, Luke, Alex, James and Adam could all start on Wednesday. How many will? They all stepped up and did everything that they were asked to do, and more. But none of them were picked to feature in the starting XI last Wednesday.

Adam, Alex, Paolo and Luke would definitely start for me. But I would not be too surprised if they are all on the bench. One thing BR must be aware of is that in the previous two games we did not play particularly well in the first half. We stepped up significantly when the subs came on. Those same subs made the first half on Saturday an absolute pleasure to watch.

A big but welcome dilemma for the manger. 16 or so players who are all good enough to start. Yang and JF both played well too.

I doubt we’ll see a repeat of the Hampden score, I assume they will sit in more this time and try to keep it tight and avoid Maeda and Kuhn been given space to run into.

  6. Astonishing season so far. We are a joy to watch, very few failures. At last competing at CL level with a squad that is talented and exciting.

All to play for in 4 competitions and a massive warchest to strengthen further in January.

Anyone not smelling the coffee at the moment is for the watching

  7. lets all do the huddle on

there were a LOT more than 2000 empty seats on saturday.

i even used capitals there to emphasize the more-ness of the empty seat count compared to the number 2000!!

  12. The returnof weeron on

    Greenpinata….

When there IS demand, we should be able to satisfy that demand. We are deliberately deciding not to do this.

    That’s all.

Again, why are folks arguing against fulfilling the demand when it is there? A ticket ‘exchange’ would put money into Celtic’s coffers. It would reduce the cost for those who can’t use their ticket(s) on occasion. It would help non ST holders to attend games. It would provide a full(er) stadium experience.

    What’s not to like?

If you are a ST holder who prefers to NOT put your unused tickets into the ‘Exchange’, then no-one can make you. So there is no downside to you.

    Weeron

  13. Greenpinata

The truth is that back then we had no domestic rivals or domestic competition. Hence no crowd.

The rebirth of a Glasgow rival from south of the river combined with appointment of a manager with fan appeal filled the house.

A winning team in a competitive environment saw us through a few years and then the great football and winning of Ange and BR mark 2 has sustained / increased demand.

    No competition = no crowd.

Hence rangers winning every pre season cup and signing superstars every summer is always good for us re box office and it gives the impression of impending competition.

  14. Prestonpans bhoys on

Josh Windass says “I took Rangers winning mentality with me when I left Ibrox – but be careful because it can cause fall outs”

If you Google him and look up his honours there’s nothing there. This pish is pushed into them when they enter the door, do they not check the stats since 2012, three trophies 🤔

  15. I think stadium expansion won’t happen, far too expensive ,and the Club would have to wait a long time to see a return. I can see us buying the Emirates Arena, which is a white elephant, to expand hospitality, and house Almore’s cafe, with large sports bars for supporters buses, plenty of parking as well. Very few events in there,it must be losing money every year.

  16. lets all do the huddle on

if we were to do up the main stand what would happen to the well-healed occupants of those seats just now while it gets done up?

theres no way they would be told that theres no room for them elsewhere in the stadium as they pay too much to the club for their seats and hospitality.

i think peasants like me would get told to beat it for a year or so to give them our seats

    ———-

A straightforward eloquent reply to Greenpinata’s legitimate question. People always vote with their feet/wallets if a product is inferior.

Those who constantly wish for the Ibrox club’s permanent demise should remember the lesson of history.

How could the Scottish game survive if 25% of the potential fans disappeared and TV contracts etc were slashed to reflect a less competitive football environment?

The flag-covering of the top decks at CP actually happened – it is not part of a sterile ‘what if the Ibrox club was gone’ debate.

Total average attendances in the SPL equal c200,000 – Celtic 30%, Ibrox 25%, Aberdeen/Hibs/Hearts 30%(approx 10% each), the rest 15%. Without Ibrox the total would drop probably 40% allowing for the knock-on effect of the missing Govanites.

So let’s always gear-up to be top-dogs – of course we could go it alone in Glasgow but there would be serious consequences of a poorer league – we have the proof.

I am very much in favour of a properly run and secure Ticket Exchange Scheme – I believe it will come over time.

    =========

The biggest thing the club can do for the stadium just now is make sure its full (copyright stivs) and set up a ticket exchange scheme

It will help keep the stadium full and create demand for more season tickets when we are ready to add more seats

  19. It would also generate more income for both the club and the supporter and hopefully create new customers that won’t and don’t get to try the match day experience

  20. bigrailroadblues on

I wish the Celtic would purchase the edmiston mausoleum and use it as a facility for beambacks for European matches. And maybe build a wee chapel for our more religious supporters. I reckon it’s a goer.

  21. I see Villa have told their support, tickets for their game against Celtic, end of January, have until Dec 6th to pay.UPWARDS of £97 a ticket !!!!!.Nice gift coming up to Christmas.

  22. Watching the highlights on Shorty last night, there was at least 3 times that figure of 2000 missing.Speaking to my mate today, seat is on the curve at Celtic end,he said there were emty seats everywhere.

This Christmas shopping excuse. If I was back home and my missus said to me,” No game today,we have to go shopping”Aye right.2 word answer.Free Saturday on the 15 th.Sunday opening.

Problem is,success spoils too many.If we were neck and neck with the scum,it would be mobbed.

  23. Huddle,

No dead rubbers.Every game from 24th up means something.Who you could face, seeding, and of course for many, the cash

Shocking price for a ticket though,at this time.
