Irresistible Kyogo

290

It was as though a light switch had been flicked.  Celtic produced a devastating display of football that blew Dundee away.  The contrast from Tynecastle of Denmark just a week earlier could not be more marked.  In truth, losing by six goals flattered the newly promoted side.

Kyogo Furuhashi was irresistible.  He was like a gyroscope, moving left-to-right, dropping deep and making timed runs into the box with devastating consequences.  Liel Abada and David Turnbull had a focus for their quick forward passing.  Gone was the Ryan Christie who snatched at chances, replaced by the Ryan Christie who opened the defence with darting movement and passing, recording three assists in the process.

Callum McGregor dropped to the deep midfield position in place of Ismaila Soro, the captain had a big role in how quickly Celtic kept the ball moving.

Ange Postecoglou is still working on his defence, which looked nervy on occasion.  Dundee should have done better with a header from a corner kick that David Turnbull was out-muscled at.  The corner was conceded by Carl Starfelt when he lunged to atone for not getting his head on a long ball forward.  Mistakes lead to set pieces, which have too often led to goals.

It was my first game since St Mirren in March 2020.  It was a joy to be back.  My usual seat is in the back row of the North Stand, but for this one, I was in Row C, at the front of the Lisbon Lions’.  In all the years Celtic Park has been in its current configuration, I never knew how wet the front of that stand can get.  More importantly, the video advertising hoardings blocked visibility of the near six-yard box.  I’ll stop complaining about the permanent gales 142 steps into the sky.

AP may well have his shopping list but he may be getting told to keep it for Santa.

Far be it for me to defend JHB, but I’d far rather he continued to express considered and valid opinions on Celtic despite these going against the prevailing mood.

He should have been signed up instead of Barkas, lots of folks on here were calling for it at the time,

the amount of stupid blunders we made last season could fill a book,

but hey ho – a welcome new beginning / clean slate with our excellent new manager

  4. for the record – I don’t have it in for Taylor or any celtic player for that matter. I “have it in” for positions filled inadequately.

I am an admirer for Taylors effort and attitude – if effort and attitude was the requirement for left back, then we should all be available for selection. NO, we need pace and physicality, particularly with the high press Celtic play.

Taylor will do well in a back 4 or 5 sitting deep where he is not exposed.

Exactly what would you like moderated (censored) – I am at a loss.

  6. If and it’s still a huge if Kyogo gets better by the game, and it’s gonna be hard given the start he has had, but I do believe he will, there must be others in the J league that Ange reckons will do a job for us, they won’t cost arms and legs and the exposure will do wonders for us, go get em Ange.

I have no ‘axe to grind’ with you – I usually enjoy your posts. Surely it is incumbent on someone to put yesterday’s enjoyable game into context.

  8. I probably would be categorised on here as a happy clapper, having supported Celtic since about 1957. Imo, we should allow JHB to continue sharing his opinions. They may not sit well with many of us but, again imo, he complies with the rules Paul67 has laid down.

STV: Do you think Malmo are under more pressure being one up or are Rangers under more pressure because they’re in front of their own fans?

JT: I think Rangers are under pressure because they need the Champions League money.

STV: Would you care to elaborate on that?

JT: No. You’re all clever guys. You can work it out.

  11. It will be a rollercoaster ride with Ange , 2 checkpoints will be firstly , the likely first eleven when the window slams shut and secondly our points tally after the first round of fixtures….

We will get better as the season progresses and that improvement will outweigh teams getting to know our new formation and adapting ….

Still think it takes 18 months to fully gel a side together but feels like there will be some high points along the way …..

Back to usual seat on Thursday… hopefully a bit drier and a few goals and bringing the right flank into the game a bit more

It’s fortunate for all concerned that they managed to win the league last season.

Mind you, there will be some hoping that last season’s (lack of) effort wasn’t all in vain and only served to kick the can down the road for a few months.

  21. glendalystonsils on

DD will not be pleased after the board managed to carry out his stunning ‘save the huns’ plan last season , only for them to go down the u-bend this season . ;-))))

  22. Celtic need more and better players in several areas of the team. Ange does not need to identify all the players so long as he has been able to watch them for himself and determine if they will fit into his way of playing.

celtic have not always signed players based on the overall team’s playing style, rather we have picked up younger players with potential.

Given the type of players we have being signing under Ange I dont think the priority now is how players will fit into the team.

No top flight club in in the world would completely empty their scouting department and scouting reports on players cause a new manager has come in. I am sure there will be player’s celtic looked at (on scouting list) prior to Ange’s arrival who have the correct, attributes to fit his style of play.

    Great talent. Tremendous work ethic.

I’m very glad fans (short for fanatics) are effusing about Sunday without automatically considering the wider context.

After a truly awful year it’s just great to be blown away by a performance and to be able to dream about what may be.

    The opposition will improve?

So will we. And more so than they.

PS – who is going to tell Malmö that Sevco have a Covid-19 outbreak they’re trying to keep under wraps?

    – Bigoted Broadcasting Corporation? No

The acknoledgement email for online purchase of ticket for Thursday does start off by saying your ticket will be posted to your address. It then goes on to say:

If you are a Season Ticket holders purchasing your season seat for a home Cup/European away match, please refer to the information on Season Ticket Activation detailed below.

It then details your seat and purchase price etc.

  26. Huns need their full team out to beat the likes of Malmö , Kamara, Roofe, Jack out will need to rely on thuggery and diving , wind the Swedes up , and pray for a weak ref.

Suspect Malmö will nick it in the last 15 to 20 minutes , it’ll finish up 0-2 , Kamara and Goldsten transferred , Slippy G resign due to lack of support from the board … I’ve got some decorating to do tmrw but result is in the bag for the Swedes ; headlines Huns didn’t Turnup

Surely it is incumbent on someone to put yesterday’s enjoyable game into context.

    =========================

Only if you arrogantly assume that you and only you are savvy enough to be aware aware that enjoyable as Sunday’s game was, it WAS only one game. You obviously see everyone else as going way over the top and writing off our opposition. You assume we all need you to bring us back to reality. Your intervention was patronising and contemptible.
