Irresistible Kyogo

290

It was as though a light switch had been flicked.  Celtic produced a devastating display of football that blew Dundee away.  The contrast from Tynecastle of Denmark just a week earlier could not be more marked.  In truth, losing by six goals flattered the newly promoted side.

Kyogo Furuhashi was irresistible.  He was like a gyroscope, moving left-to-right, dropping deep and making timed runs into the box with devastating consequences.  Liel Abada and David Turnbull had a focus for their quick forward passing.  Gone was the Ryan Christie who snatched at chances, replaced by the Ryan Christie who opened the defence with darting movement and passing, recording three assists in the process.

Callum McGregor dropped to the deep midfield position in place of Ismaila Soro, the captain had a big role in how quickly Celtic kept the ball moving.

Ange Postecoglou is still working on his defence, which looked nervy on occasion.  Dundee should have done better with a header from a corner kick that David Turnbull was out-muscled at.  The corner was conceded by Carl Starfelt when he lunged to atone for not getting his head on a long ball forward.  Mistakes lead to set pieces, which have too often led to goals.

It was my first game since St Mirren in March 2020.  It was a joy to be back.  My usual seat is in the back row of the North Stand, but for this one, I was in Row C, at the front of the Lisbon Lions’.  In all the years Celtic Park has been in its current configuration, I never knew how wet the front of that stand can get.  More importantly, the video advertising hoardings blocked visibility of the near six-yard box.  I’ll stop complaining about the permanent gales 142 steps into the sky.

  1. Still glowing after those early passes into kyogo – wow!

Only negative – the shocking reffing and game management which allowed the greatest shower stevie g has ever managed to be beat; the training this weak for refs will be swift and shocking.

  3. ROCK TREE BHOY,

There have been plenty calling for him to be banned. Just read back. That’s on top of those who don’t comply with Paul67’s rules in responding to him.

A blog without differing opinions is a complete and utter waste of time, most folks on here are well aware of that, no one more so than Paul67.

It’s just great to have watched a fantastic performance from a team that looked like they were enjoying playing together. Ange is a class act but it will take time. We have to give him as much as he needs.

Is Ange responsible for the improvement in Christie’s form?

  8. Ernie, if I’m reading your post right, then you’re making an assumption that it is a fact that Celtic PL/DD wanted the sevs to win the league. I just don’t buy it and because you keep saying won’t make me believe it.

Your intervention was patronising and contemptible.

    ——

I can assure that was not my intention in the least – it was my opinion, pure & simple and I stick by it.

You may certainly disagree, as strongly as you like, but please don’t attribute thoughts in my head that are not there, or, put words in my mouth.

My opinion is as valid as anyone’s, and vice versa. HH

    I understand.

I just put that down to an excess of optimism, hyperbole & release after the drought.

Personally, I am looking forward to games against better teams with more confidence than I had last weekend.

I probably would be categorised on here as a happy clapper, having supported Celtic since about 1957. Imo, we should allow JHB to continue sharing his opinions. They may not sit well with many of us but, again imo, he complies with the rules Paul67 has laid down.

That is precisely what you were doing with the whole blog, and the entire basis of my protest against your comments. You accused everyone enjoying the result of not having the intelligence to prevent ourselves from “getting carried away”.

  16. To lose Ryan and Eddie at this point would be a step backwards, after taking a few forward. Unless that is we replaced them with as good or better. And I’m not counting Kyogo or Liel here, since they were all on the pitch at some point or other yesterday. Christie is beginning to look like the player of Brendan Rodgers days, and while Odsonne is not quite there, there were some positive signs from his cameo yesterday. Of course maybe both are set on leaving and Ange set on losing them, but given that the alternatives are Ajeti and the Griff, neither able to outscore an out of sorts Eddie last season, losing both will weaken us as we look like we are finding our feet, and our direction known. In Ange we trust.

Evening all. Ange’s team is no doubt going to improve. Here’s hoping Sundays game was an example of how fast moving forwards & unpredictable movement, will unlock packed defences.

Many of us have grumbled about the final 3rd and ability to unlock these defences. Here’s hoping were witnessing the Renaissance.

  18. myboysnowatim on

I so wanted Neil to succeed but with hindsight, were witnessing a manager who looks to be getting the players that were unferperforming, playing to a potential that will hopefully get better.

Lost the 10 but maybe won a watch.

Noticed a distinct lack of smart ass Sevconians commenting on Celtic YouTube channels today.

  20. Maybe Thursday we will see James make his debut.Replacing Rogic would let Camac tear into them.

    Strong midfield we have now.C,Mon Ryan,its a no brainer.New contract,great pay rise.

    ——-

I can agree with all of that – they all played with a smile in their faces -(Eddy excepted).

It was a nice, stress-free day at Celtic Park – how many times could we have said that since the start of the year – with, or, without, crowds.

I enjoyed it and realised exactly what it was..

  25. SFtBs @ 3:10 PM,

Thanks for the clarification, I have now heard from Superbru, they have confirmed that my picks were changed early Saturday night.

I know your remarks were tongue in cheek so no problem whatsoever with that but you’ll be keen as anyone that the integrity of the competition is not compromised.

Interestingly enough I did check my account on Saturday to see where I stood after the earlier games.

Also interestingly, when you look at my original picks on Saturday morning there were six matches, now if you took the scores from the first four games, then transposed them, onto Sundays four games that was how the picks were altered!?

Superbru said they don’t believe its a glitch at there end as no one has raised the issue before but they are prepared to look further into it, which I’ve asked them to do.

They got back to me in a prompt, detailed and professional manner so I’m sure your confidence in Superbru is well placed. There will be a rational explanation sure I’m sure.

I know organising these things is hard enough work without these issues, your doing sterling work, so thanks again.

    Hail Hail
