Isolation is not your friend

On a blog last week I wrote, “A point for Michael Nicholson and Dermot Desmond.  Two years ago you appointed a manager who, every time he has spoken this month, has put you in the dock for this one [Almaty].  Brendan’s is the only voice representing the club right now and it is not flattering.

“The lack of a constructive narrative is self-defeating and leaves fans wondering: What’s going on?”

The information vacuum from Celtic, apart from Brendan Rogers’ internecine comments, is not sustainable.  A week later, calls for answers have become deafening.  Celtic fans are not always right in their views, but I always find them easy to speak to (don’t be fooled by a few loons online, they’re pussycats face-to-face).

Plans do not always work out, but when that’s the case, stakeholders (which in this case includes Celtic fans) are best kept informed.  Isolation is not your friend.

  1. It really does make DD look like the absentee landlord. The board look incapable of doing anything without his approval, which isn’t good for anyone.

  2. The Club is now toxic to agents and potential signings, as long as these clowns are in charge,Nicholson on full Blackadder mode, under his desk with pencils up his nose, not answering the phone

  3. “Plans do not always work out …”

Why, when I read that, do I automatically think of Willard saying to Kurtz

    “I don’t see … any method … at all.”

    Plans. Lol.

  4. Don’t know anything about running a huge football club, but as a fan observing from the outside. Michael Nicholson is out his depth and not very good at his job.

    IMHOcsc

“under his desk with pencils up his nose, not answering the phone”

    👏

That really did make me laugh out loud.

  6. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

    Apocalypse Now reference is apt.

Kurtz is close but not necessarily the name I would use.

Nicholson is probably a good club lawyer, but he’s a hopeless CEO.

  7. Saw the headline and assumed it was CQN not being part of the massive fan movement asking questions of the current custodians of the club

    It wasn’t

  8. I dont know what business expertise these guys have where a lack of communication is acceptable normal and part of the way things are done, it is ignorant of your customers treats them like mushrooms and when the main output fails you have a crisis of your own making but this one is likely to cause a 40% drop in turnover, great leaders we have, communication is one part of the solution but heads must roll this cannot go on and a 1 5 and 10yr plan for the club needs to be developed worked towards and updated, successful first team football must be the main objective both domestically and in Europe right now we dont even have a europa league squad. This board are useless and the way the club operates is by directive if one person. It is a total mess.

  9. Apparently, BOBO BALDE is now in a French psychiatric hospital after his strange behaviour outside a French school over 2 or 3 days ?

Parents became alarmed and apparently one of them drove his car at BOBO, before driving off ?

I sincerely hope that this is NOT TRUE ?

IF it is, its very disturbing.

  10. “Plans do not always work out”. P67 you’re a very funny man.

So if we accept there was a plan, I do not. Did the plan fail due to being a load of shite? Or did the implementation fall short due to incompetence?

Either way that’s not a good look and it sure as hell is not the managers fault.

  11. According to DIAZEN MAEDA, Celtic received an offer from another club recently. MAEDA states that he agreed to some personal issues with the buying club and HE ADMITS that he was looking for a fresh challenge ?

Brendan refused to sell him ( According to Maeda ) at that moment in time ?

Perhaps we do NOT have to look too far to see WHY any player is OFF FORM ?

IF MAEDA doesnt want to play for Celtic, then SELL him at the earliest opportunity.

NO POINT in keeping an UNHAPPY Player.

  12. So, Idah, Yang & Maeda thought that they were leaving Celtic as late as Monday afternoon.

    One did.

Celtic now have six wingers (Maeda, Yang, Balikwisha, Tounekti, Forrest & Jota) for two starting positions. Maeda obviously could be seen as a central striker also. But we could also include Nygren as a winger.

Two of those wingers must be a little confused (Yang?) and/or disappointed (Maeda – “I had received an offer and I had been telling the club that I wanted to take the next step, but Celtic hadn’t been able to make any good reinforcements, so in the end they told me they couldn’t let me leave.”).

Regular posters have speculated that Maeda was ‘off it’ recently. It appears that he may indeed have been distracted.

All this around a CL qualifier.

This does not look very clever.

  13. Michael Nicholson definitely not related to Viv (spend, spend, spend) Nicholson…

    That was for older fans…

SS- The programme isn’t about tax avoidance, it’s about fraud and theft of guy’s life savings, try watching it then comment on it.

    ————————

what is the rationale for the wealthy football players involved to allow their life savings to be invested by Knightbridge ? young naive rich footballers invested because other footballers were doing it, but why ?

wealth protection ? returns ? tax relief ?

    what did hmrc think ?

    —————————-

    Where did the investments go?

In 1997, the Treasury introduced tax relief on investments in domestic films to try to boost the UK film industry.

“What the government didn’t envisage was the tax advantages would be abused and turned into a financial product,” said investment fraud lawyer Ben Rees.

Kingsbridge advised clients to invest in film financing schemes, both with their own money and with bank loans.

Wallace put more than £2m into the sector.

Players were then encouraged to invest in property with a 40% tax rebate, that did not need to be repaid for 15 years.

  15. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

With a nod to there always being 3 sides to every story (your side, their side and the truth), Nicholson and Desmond better get a move on for “the loons” have control of the narrative and are becoming more hyperbolic by the day.

  16. Big Jimmy:

Which part of this are you not quite grasping?

We didn’t replace Kyogo. We didn’r replace Kuhn. We barely got a replacement – if we’re calling him that – for Idah over the line before the deadline expired for European registration.

And you wonder why the manager blocked the sale of another key player?

    Is that a joke?

  17. What plan? The one to do our serious business of considering restocking the arsenal at the 11th hour ?

Where the Plan B is to go to Brendan’s black book, or assessing injury blighted Championship freebies?

Meanwhile squad unity may be impacted further with Maeda confirming what his body lingo has been suggesting to us for weeks; he wants away. It looks like an unsettled squad indeed.

And over in Hammers-land, an online report claims the Irons turned down a bid for Andy Irvine which at 1.75m was 50% less than what the Hammers valued him at.

  18. One last thing about the narrative.

What makes any of those still supporting this utterly dysfunctional leadership think they have anything to say at this point which repairs even a fraction of the damage this summer has inflicted?

If there was/is a plan, why aren’t we following it right now? Or maybe we are, something that you might want to consider, because that’s a possibility. That we’re in a period of dismantling and not evolving. That these aren’t simply failures but deliberate policy. Don’t rule it out.

Amazing that after watching this unfold your faith is still unshakeable. I used to wonder if it would take a league flag flying over Ibrox to snap some people out of it, but you know what? They could fly the next four or five league flags over there and still some people will blame Rodgers and defend these people.

It’s pointless even trying to argue with them. If they aren’t actual board members hiding behind monickers they are something very close to it.

For “loons” we sure are right a lot of the time.

Disgustingly disparaging way to talk about fellow Celtic fans.

Easy James.we don’t need to read far back for your disparaging view.

    Take care

  20. Maeda 🎙️ – I had received an offer & was telling Celtic that I wanted to take the next step.

Maeda 🎙️ – They weren’t able to make any good reinforcements, so in the end they told me I couldn’t leave.

Maeda 🎙️ – There were some things that I had agreed to personally, so I wanted to take on the challenge.

Maeda 🎙️ – I’d been talking to the club since before the end of last season & I’d always told them I wanted to take the next step but we had important games so it was difficult.

Knock yourself out, state your case.

But if you mean my deliberate slamming of certain individuals … I’m not apologising for that. They deserved it, and a lot more. That’s their whole “debate style” on here, which is why I don’t debate them.
