Isolation is not your friend

On a blog last week I wrote, “A point for Michael Nicholson and Dermot Desmond.  Two years ago you appointed a manager who, every time he has spoken this month, has put you in the dock for this one [Almaty].  Brendan’s is the only voice representing the club right now and it is not flattering.

“The lack of a constructive narrative is self-defeating and leaves fans wondering: What’s going on?”

The information vacuum from Celtic, apart from Brendan Rogers’ internecine comments, is not sustainable.  A week later, calls for answers have become deafening.  Celtic fans are not always right in their views, but I always find them easy to speak to (don’t be fooled by a few loons online, they’re pussycats face-to-face).

Plans do not always work out, but when that’s the case, stakeholders (which in this case includes Celtic fans) are best kept informed.  Isolation is not your friend.

  1. ‘Two years ago you appointed a manager who, every time he has spoken this month, has put you in the dock for this one [Almaty.

Erm, i would say the manager has consistently highlighted how dysfunctional a football ‘operation’ Celtic FC have in place. No matter how hard you try P67, you’re not going to change the narrative. You are only making yourself look silly with your constant attacks on the manager, and not the real villain’s of the piece.

  2. I keep reading on here and elsewhere online that we have failed to replace Kyogo.

I am likely forgetting something to put it into context but I always assumed that spending 9M on a new CF was a replacement for Kyogo (who regressed massively under BR – didn’t fit the system?).

I actually thought at the time of Idah signing that we were actually replacing Kyogo before he left similar to AJ coming in as Juranovic wanted oot.

You don’t pay twice the price for a bench warmer after all.

  3. AuroraBorealis79 on

Kyogo wanted away. Khun wanted away. Daizan wanted away. It was a no brainer gor idah. There is whole lot more to this story

  4. Lol oh dear God …

I am outta here for the rest of the day.

Oh man. Idah the replacement for Kyogo.

What was it Gordon Strachan said? I could talk about that but that’s a half eaten yogurt at the back of the fridge to take care of. Something along those lines anyway.

  5. Let’s be clear, Nicholson is under immense pressure because of his incompetence.

Many dozens of fan organisations are now demanding answers because of his job performance- not because of something the manager said.

But again, I welcome your demands for Nicholson to front up, Paul.

It truly says a lot when you can see the need for this as well !

  6. Disappointing about Daizen , are we been softened up for him moving to Saudis Arabia , their window shuts next week.

Maeda 🎙️ – I had received an offer & was telling Celtic that I wanted to take the next step.

Maeda 🎙️ – They weren’t able to make any good reinforcements, so in the end they told me I couldn’t leave.

Maeda 🎙️ – There were some things that I had agreed to personally, so I wanted to take on the challenge.

Maeda 🎙️ – I’d been talking to the club since before the end of last season & I’d always told them I wanted to take the next step but we had important games so it was difficult.

    ———————–

each performance now will be picked apart as he gets the coveted escaped goat position.

    =====================

It appears Daizen chose to go public with this. Rationally, presumably he has done that to gain some kind of advantage going forward. Or is it emotional, satisfying the need to express frustration and disappointment?

As long as his attitude in games is OK I think he will be fine. Celtic fans are accustomed to his chances/goals conversion so he will only get stick if his attitude is off.

  8. glendalystonsils on

I retained some hope that the real Daizen would reappear after what was merely a dip in form. Then we read today’s revelation that his route out was blocked because a replacement ‘couldn’t’ be sourced.

I expect what we’ll see this season is a shadow of the shadow Daizen we’ve been seeing . Another chapter in the Celtic anthology of fuckuperry .

Best ignore folk whose only interest is to try to get interest in their sad little enterprises.

The guy does not even go to watch Celtic. He has done nothing in life but has a view on everything wrong.

No solutions but he can sure tell you all that others are doing wrong.

These types are 10 a penny in life. Even 100 a penny.

  10. Just one last point before I go and get some work done …

The “loons” include the chairman at Go Ahead Eagles, the chairman at Birmingham, the manager at Swansea, the agents of Yang and Idah and now Maeda himself and his own representatives, not to mention whichever club it was he was dealing with.

This summer has dangerously undermined our reputation, across football.

That was not the manager who did that. That was not the fans, we ungrateful bastards, who did that. Maybe the loons have the narrative because there’s no other narrative. Maybe this club is as dysfunctional in every respect as it looks.

Too much of a stretch? We’re not the ones you gotta convince.

Much of European football thinks as we do, and they’re a far bigger long term problem.

His attitude is not ok thought. He was boiling over in both the almaty & rangers games. In both games he was close to a red card. Even raked his studs down the back of a rsngers players leg

  12. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Bada Bing (i think it was you?) … thank you for posting the link to the Maeda interview story.

    Daizen wanted to leave Celtic.

Respectfully, all, let that sink in.

Two years after signing a new four year contract, he wanted to leave.

Half a season after assuming the star of the team mantle from Kyogo (who also wanted out), he wanted to leave.

For the season ahead, I have my doubts as to his ability to raise his game to recent levels.

I use recent rather than e.g. previous intentionally.

Daizen was still quite raw when he arrived.

He brought us energy immediately … which we needed.

His technique needed to improve – one awful miss away to Shakhtar springs to mind – and it did.

Ange made him a better player.

Brendan made him a better player still.

Maybe Ange was right about not getting attached to our heroes.

    There’s plenty to ponder here.

How does Brendan motivate the guy?

Is this more evidence that Scottish football is, and always will be, a stepping stone, regardless how big or how special we think our club is?

Has the big fee gone? IMHO Probably.

Brendan will likely not want to sell him in January

In the summer he’ll be 28 years old with one year left on his contract.

Maybe any published recruitment and squad management strategy has to include a paragraph which states

    “When they peak, punt them”.

Those who appear to find fault in everything would likely find fault with this.

    Such is life.

  13. Talk of a plan keeps coming up. We do not have a plan.

We hace relied on the lack of finance at all our competitors for a very long time and sell our best player(s) every year.

I suppose that is a plan but hardly worthy of mention.

The problem with saying sell a player if they don’t want to be hear is that we can see they’re not replaced. Factually.

Buckle in for a really poor season because this has all the makings of a horrible one.

We are powder puff as a side, lack leaders, have injury issues with key players and a total lack of quality in the last third.

We will struggle in many games. If we win the league it will be an achievement like BR’s first season (2nd time around) after what was an even worse summer window.

Full disclosure – Im a Brendan Fan

Welcomed him back with open arms

Would love him to sign a new contract

If our Board have an issue with Brendan – whatever that may be – then sack him

But they do not have the decision making skills (or guts) to do that

They are prepared to let him rot by not supporting him until his contract runs out

All to the detriment of the football team

Regardless your preference Brendan or the Board to keep the status quo is pathetic

For once we agree. A manager who blocks the development of young players and then refuses to let others to progress their own careers at the expense of his. We’re left with an unhappy ageing squad full of loans and guys with no prospect of game time

“Good luck attracting young talent when it’s public knowledge we block career defining moves for our players…”

Happens all the time. The injury to Jota has likely hurt his chances but all players will know that if they sign for x years they are there for x unless it suits the player and club. He could always sign a new contract with a but out clause set at an agreeable price then he can go in Jan / next summer.

We’re more likely hampered in attracting young talent due to standard of league and lack of opportunities for a lot of talent due to disconnect between recruitment and manager atm.

  24. Maeda peaked to a level last year that he might never hit again. He should have been sold but of course our shambolic signing ‘strategy’🤣, prevented it. Nicholson must go. The manager is offski and we can only hope he can get the team performing again before we’re stuck in a COVID rut.

Which part of this are you not quite grasping?

We didn’t replace Kyogo. We didn’r replace Kuhn. We barely got a replacement – if we’re calling him that – for Idah over the line before the deadline expired for European registration.

And you wonder why the manager blocked the sale of another key player?

    Is that a joke?

    …………..

    NAW…NO Joke James !

I certainly GRASP the concept of several players in recent months of being unhappy at Celtic.

My point is that if ANY Player is UNHAPPY at Celtic, then there NO POINT in trying to keep them, no matter who they are ?

You forget that recently and in the past, I totally BLAME the Board for MUCH of what has went wrong at Celtic and NOT Brendan Rodgers.

For some reason KYOGO wasn’t happy at Celtic and it was reflected in some of his performances just before he left…likewise KHUN who went badly OFF FORM for months before leaving…Now we appear to be seeing the SAME PATTERN with MAEDA this season…so far.

What part of this ” PATTERN” do YOU NOT SEE ?

If we could SACK the BOARD I would be very happy…but sadly that aint gonna happen anytime soon ?

I do NOT think that Brendan is GUILTY of much, IF anything….Unlike some of those Board members.
