Issue 7 of CQN Magazine out now!

Issue 7 of CQN Magazine is out now! We continue our campaigning focus on the crisis in Scottish football from recent weeks as well as delivering many great articles on Celtic.

You can get a glimpse of the magazine below but go to the dedicated magazine site here to read it properly (which you’ll not be able to do below). Nip to page 64 for my favourite article this month, comparing the age of the current Celtic team to some of our great teams from the past. It’s an eye opener.

A special word of thanks to Alex Thomson of Channel 4 News, who this morning got Uefa to confirm: “We are in contact with the Scottish FA and offering assistance”.

We have tons to talk about in the next couple of days, Brian Kennedy, Sailen Manna – don’t let me forget to talk about Sailen, Athletic (one of the most important cup ties in years?), Kenny Shiels (don’t underestimate this guy) and we have a Cup Final to look forward to! Struggling to fit it in but we’ll try.

We are now shipping hard copies of the magazine from the UK – and sold out last month (unlike Rangers tickets last week).  Order your copy by clicking on the link below.  If you want a copy shipped overseas (note, seas, not sees) email me, celticquicknews@gmail.com (for Britain and Ireland please use the link below).

You can support the online edition by making a discretionary donation here.  Thanks to James, Bart, Bobby and David, all of whom are probably still asleep, and everyone who contributed.

@obonfanti88 Only in relation to competitions. FIFA are the world governing

Would he mean competitions like the SPL, Champions League, UEFA Cup etc?

I thought they were all competitions under the UEFA umbrella.

I suspect he’s right on this one. UEFA have rules for their competitions which all participating teams must adhere to. Many of those rules will be identical to the national association rules, and some might be adopted for convenience sake.

However UEFA might eg stipulate that all teams must have 3 recognised gaolkeepers in a competition squad but this would not necessarily be applied by a national association.

A concrete example might be the issue Hearts had with their pitch not fitting UEFA regulation sizes but being ok under SFA rules.

My personel favourite from the Follow Follow Book Of Fairytales is the yarn about Celtic switching on the floodlights to aid the Luftwaffe on their bombing raids.

Is it any wonder the Germans lost the war when these guys waited until 1959 to attempt to blow up the shipyards?

Regan’s a great one for deflecting. The number of times he has hid behind “oh that’s SPL rule” is ridiculous. No surprise with his current approach. Out of his depth I think.

  7. Reagan is nitpicking with his latest tweet and he knows it

UEFA are totally relevant in this instance. They could ban Rangers from playing in their UEFA competitions for as long as they see fit. Ditto Scotland in the EC

He would be better served getting his head down into a full investigation of why one his member clubs has broken SFA statutes

Defo be on the piste. Picking up Brother C and the duty free tonight, then heading up north tomorrow. Should get the game on CelticTV. I think they have live rights – I’ve purchased the mobile internet thing especially.

Yes, say if UEFA did ban RFC from their competitions (which I’m sure the SFA must come under in some way?) due to the EBT’s and suchlike, surely the SFA would be duty bound to reciprocate?

  14. From The Telegraph:

When Jeff Randall responded to a throw-away question in a Q&A for the Radio 5 Live website, little did he expect to have the answer repeated in two-foot high letters on a banner spanning half the width of the Copland Stand at Ibrox. Asked which team he supported, the BBC’s Business News presenter said: “Glasgow Rangers…they are the quintessential British club.”

    DJBEE: Just for you:

    Ingredients

    12 ounces Guinness stout

    2 cups heavy cream

    2 cups whole milk

    3/4 cup granulated sugar

1 vanilla bean, split in half lengthwise

    6 egg yolks

    Dark Chocolate-Honey Sauce, recipe follows

    Directions

In a large saucepan, simmer the Guinness until reduced by 3/4 in volume, about 8 minutes. Combine the cream, milk, and sugar in a medium, heavy saucepan. Scrape the seeds from the vanilla bean into the pan and add the vanilla bean halves. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat. Remove from the heat.

Beat the egg yolks in a medium bowl. Whisk 1 cup of the hot cream into the egg yolks. Gradually add the egg mixture in a slow, steady stream, to the hot cream. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon and reaches 170 degrees F. on an instant-read thermometer, about 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and strain through a fine mesh strainer into a clean container. Cover with plastic wrap, pressing down against the surface to keep a skin from forming. Chill in the refrigerator for 2 hours.

Remove from refrigerator and add the Guinness reduction, whisking until well blended. Pour into the bowl of an ice cream machine and freeze according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Transfer to an airtight container and freeze until ready to serve.

    Dark Chocolate-Honey Sauce:

    2 cups whipping cream

    1/4 cup honey

20 ounces bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped

    2 teaspoons vanilla extract

In a medium saucepan, scald cream and honey medium heat. Remove from the heat. Place the chocolate in a heatproof bowl. Add the hot cream, let sit for 2 minutes, then whisk until smooth. Whisk in the vanilla. Let stand until cool but still pourable. Serve over Guinness ice cream.

  24. Neil Lennon will continue to intermittently blank the Scottish media if they do not “get a grip of themselves”.

Lennon refused to speak to reporters before and after last week’s Scottish Cup quarter-final win over Dundee United at Tannadice.

Lennon, though, told one media outlet before the 4-0 win on Tayside that he was angry at suggestions his club were trying to benefit from the financial woes of administration-hit Rangers.

Speaking at the club’s Lennoxtown training complex, ahead of Sunday’s League Cup final against Kilmarnock at Hampden, Lennon was asked if he believed Celtic had been unnecessarily dragged into Rangers’ problems.

“Yes, spot on,” he said. “I have not been happy with some of the coverage our club has been getting. Unless attitudes from some journalists change to myself and the club I will continue to refuse to speak to them.

“I am as professional as possible with the press and give them the respect that I think should be reciprocated but at times I don’t think it is. It is up to some people to get a grip of themselves and behave in the professional manner which myself, the club and my players give to them.”

  25. I remember when my da (a ‘quiet man’ if ever there was) was dyin’,loaded with morphine, watchin’ the telly, and the brigade was finally kickin’ back big time against Oliver’s Army, and his face lit up and he shouted,” Go on the bhoys!”. It was a revelation. All those years, and he’d hardly said a word about all the repression we’d suffered. After that,he opened up and I got an amazing living history lesson. My da was born in the middle of a storm on The Irish Sea,and he died in the middle storm in Scotland. He was the best person I’ve ever met and he was a Celt through & through.

He would’ve loved to be here today.
